TOPIC: REVERSING TIME
MEMORISE
And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
Daniel 2:21
READ: Joshua 10:1-14
1 Now it came to pass, when Adonizedec king of Jerusalem had heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;
2 That they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty.
3 Wherefore Adonizedec king of Jerusalem, sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,
4 Come up unto me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.
5 Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.
6 And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.
7 So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valour.
8 And the Lord said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.
9 Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night.
10 And the Lord discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Bethhoron, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.
11 And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the Lord cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.
12 Then spake Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.
13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.
14 And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the Lordhearkened unto the voice of a man: for the Lord fought for Israel.
RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 12 APRIL 2026 TODAY MESSAGE
God controls times and seasons, as we see in today’s memory verse. As I mentioned yesterday, He is Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending (Revelation 1:8). This means that He is in charge of the past, present, and future. If He wants, He can stop time like He did in today’s Bible reading, where He stopped the sun from setting.
God is Almighty, and He can reverse the effect of time on a person or situation.
Many years ago, as I approached my 60th birthday, I became concerned that I was growing old, and it seemed like I was still very far from completing the assignment that God had given me.
My children were really excited as they wanted to celebrate my 60th birthday with me; however, I was groaning and crying to God in prayers. I still remember the spot where I was, around 2am one morning, praying and asking Him for help. I told Him that I still had so much to do, and the sun seemed to be setting on my life already. God responded, saying, “Son, I decide when the sun sets.” Those words completely put my heart at rest.
As you are reading this, I pray that the Lord will prove Himself mighty in your life.
In Isaiah 38:1-8, Prophet Isaiah told King Hezekiah that God would heal him and add 15 years to his time on earth. He also told him that God would give him a sign to prove this to him:
Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.
Isaiah 38:8
Beloved, God can bring something from your past into your present. He can bring an opportunity that you think you have lost forever back to you. In Genesis 18:9-14, when God said to Abraham, “Tell your wife that she will have a son,” Sarah laughed.
She laughed because it was humanly impossible for a woman of her age to conceive a child.
However, God rebuked her and made her realise that He can restore what seems to be gone forever.
I pray for you today that God will reverse time for your sake, and every good opportunity that seems to have been lost forever will be restored to you, in Jesus’ name.
PRAYER POINT:
Father, Please reverse time for my sake and restore all the good opportunities that I have lost, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL 12 APRIL 2026 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Daniel 2:21
“And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding.”
This verse declares God’s absolute sovereignty over everything related to time. He doesn’t just live within time—He created it, controls it, and changes it as He pleases. He decides when kings rise and fall. He determines seasons of favor and seasons of waiting. If He can move kings, He can move the clock. If He can change seasons, He can reverse your personal timeline.
BIBLE READING: Joshua 10:1-14
This is one of the most astonishing miracles in Scripture. Joshua was leading Israel in battle against five Amorite kings, and the victory needed to be complete before nightfall. So Joshua did something unprecedented: he spoke to the sun and moon directly, commanding them to stand still. And the Bible records that the sun stayed in the middle of the sky for about a full day. There has never been a day like it before or since—the Lord heeded the voice of a man and fought for Israel. This passage establishes that the God who created time can also suspend it, reverse it, or stretch it according to His purpose.
The God Who Controls Time
In today’s devotional, Pastor E.A. Adeboye continues his teaching on the attributes of God, focusing this time on His mastery over time. He reveals that God is not just in time—He is over time. He created it, He controls it, and He can manipulate it for your sake.
When the Sun Stood Still
The Bible reading gives us the ultimate example of God’s power over time. Joshua needed more daylight to secure victory, so he commanded the sun to stand still. And it obeyed. The sun, that massive ball of fire that governs our days and nights, stopped moving because a man of faith spoke.
Think about what this means. Time as we know it – the rotation of the earth, the cycle of day and night, the passing of hours – was interrupted. God literally stopped the clock so His people could win.
If God can stop the sun, He can stop the countdown on your situation. If He can extend a day, He can extend your life. If He can delay sunset, He can delay your deadline.
A Personal Testimony of Time’s Reversal
Daddy Adeboye shares a vulnerable moment from his own life. As he approached his 60th birthday, while others were excited to celebrate, he was groaning in prayer. He felt he was growing old while the assignment God gave him was still far from complete. The sun seemed to be setting on his life, and he still had so much to do.
At 2am one morning, crying out to God, he received a response that changed everything: “Son, I decide when the sun sets.”
Those words settled his heart completely. He realized that aging is not ultimately about biology or chronology – it is about God’s decree. The same God who stopped the sun for Joshua can determine when your sun sets. He is in charge of your timeline.
Hezekiah: Time Turned Backward
The devotional points to another powerful example: King Hezekiah. He was told by the prophet Isaiah to set his house in order because he would die. Hezekiah prayed, wept, and reminded God of his faithful service. God responded by sending Isaiah back with a new message: fifteen more years added to his life.
But God didn’t just make a promise—He gave a sign. He caused the shadow on the sundial of Ahaz to go backward ten degrees. The sun, which had been moving forward, reversed its course. Time literally went backward.
This is what our God does. He can bring back what you thought was gone forever. He can restore lost years. He can revive expired opportunities. He can make your sun go backward.
Sarah: Reproductive System Restored
The story of Abraham and Sarah is another example of time’s reversal. Sarah was ninety years old—long past the age of childbearing. Her body had shut down that possibility decades earlier. But God asked a question that still echoes: “Is any thing too hard for the LORD?”
At the set time, Sarah conceived. A body that had been dead to reproduction came back to life. The clock of her biology was turned back. What time had taken away, God restored.
What This Means for You
If you feel like time has worked against you, today’s message is directly for you:
- You think you are too old? God decides when your sun sets.
- You think an opportunity is gone forever? God can bring it back.
- You think your body has passed its limit? God can reverse biological time.
- You think your deadline has passed? God can stop the clock.
The same God who stopped the sun for Joshua, turned back the shadow for Hezekiah, and revived Sarah’s womb is your God today. He hasn’t changed. He still controls time.
What You Must Do
- Stop Agreeing with the Clock: Your circumstances may tell you that time is up. Your body may tell you that you’re too old. Your bank account may tell you that you’ve missed your chance. But these are just reports—they are not the final word. God’s word is final.
- Cry Out to God Like Hezekiah: Hezekiah didn’t accept the prophecy of death quietly. He prayed. He wept. He reminded God of his faithfulness. Your desperate prayers move the hand of God.
- Trust the One Who Controls Time: Daddy Adeboye’s heart was set at rest when God spoke to him. You can have that same rest. The One who holds the clock is holding your life. You are safe in His hands.
- Expect Reversal: Start expecting God to bring back what you thought was lost. Expect Him to extend your time. Expect Him to revive dead situations. Your expectation activates your faith.
The Danger of Agreeing with the Enemy
The enemy wants you to believe that time is against you. He wants you to think you’re too old, too late, too far gone. But that is a lie. Time is a tool in God’s hands, not a limit on His power.
When you agree with the enemy’s timeline, you limit what God can do in your thinking. But when you believe that God controls time, you open yourself to miracles of reversal, restoration, and extension.
Conclusion: Your Time Is in His Hands
The sun stood still for Joshua. The shadow went backward for Hezekiah. Sarah conceived at ninety. Daddy Adeboye is still serving God powerfully decades after he thought his sun was setting.
What will God do for you? He can stop your clock. He can turn it back. He can add years you thought were gone. He can bring opportunities back from the dead.
Your time is in His hands. And those are good hands to be in.
Pray this:
“Father, I thank You that You control time and seasons. You stopped the sun for Joshua, turned back the shadow for Hezekiah, and revived Sarah’s womb. Do it for me, Lord. Reverse every effect of time that has worked against me. Restore every lost opportunity. Extend my days for Your glory. I trust You with my timeline. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Action Steps:
- Identify what time has taken: Write down opportunities, relationships, health, or dreams that seem lost because of time.
- Speak to your sun: Like Joshua, declare by faith that your sun will not set until God’s purpose is fulfilled in your life.
- Pray like Hezekiah: This week, set aside time for desperate prayer over any area where time seems against you. Remind God of His promises.
- Encourage yourself: Read the testimonies of Abraham, Sarah, Hezekiah, and Joshua. Let them build your faith that the God of time is on your side.
