OPEN HEAVEN 14 APRIL 2026 TODAY DEVOTIONAL
TOPIC: REVERSING LAWS
MEMORISE
O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever.
Psalm 118:1
READ: Matthew 14:22-32
22 And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 14 APRIL 2026 TODAY MESSAGE
God made laws to control nature and the universe.
However, these laws, along with every other thing that was created, were also made for His pleasure (Revelation 4:11). Whenever He wants, He can suspend the laws or reverse them to perform a miracle.
In today’s Bible reading, Jesus persuaded His disciples to get into a ship and cross the sea to the other side while He went to a mountaintop to pray.
By the time He came down from the mountain, the ship was already in the midst of the sea. Jesus then decided to suspend the law of gravity and walk on water to join His disciples. He didn’t cancel the law;
He only suspended it for a moment.
In 2 Kings 6:1-7, the sons of the prophets were cutting down wood by River Jordan, and the iron axe-head that one of them was using fell into the river and sank. Immediately, the man cried to Elisha, telling him that the axe-head was borrowed.
Elisha then cut a piece of wood and threw it into the river. The wood that was supposed to float sank, and the iron axe-head floated to the surface. The Almighty God reversed the law of flotation just to perform a miracle.
Likewise, in John 6:1-14, Jesus reversed the natural principle that causes things to reduce when you take out of them because He wanted to perform a miracle. When He gave His disciples the five loaves of bread and two fishes to share with the multitude, naturally speaking, the meal was meant to reduce as it was being distributed. However, because He had raised them in thanksgiving to the Father, the loaves and fishes multiplied as they were being handed out to the people.
Beloved, thanksgiving is a very powerful weapon that can cause God to suspend natural laws or reverse them on your behalf while also positioning you for tremendous multiplication.
When Jesus gave thanks in John 6:11, the law of multiplication overruled the law of reduction. While grumblers and complainers experience destruction because of their murmurings (1 Corinthians 10:10), you shall experience multiplication and glorification if you engage in constant thanksgiving (Jeremiah 30:19).
If you want God to suspend or reverse laws for your sake, I encourage you today to remember all that He has done and appreciate Him joyfully. I pray that the Lord will send help to you from above and reverse every law that is working against His purpose for your life, in Jesus’ name.
ACTION POINT:
Think about all the things the Lord has done for you over the years, write them down, and begin to thank Him for them.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL 14 APRIL 2026 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Psalm 118:1
“O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever.”
This verse is a call to gratitude that never expires. It gives two eternal reasons to give thanks: first, because God Himself is good—not just what He does, but who He is. Second, because His mercy never runs out. It has no expiration date. It endures forever. When you thank God, you are aligning yourself with His eternal goodness and endless mercy.
BIBLE READING: Matthew 14:22-32
This is the familiar story of Jesus walking on water. After feeding the five thousand, Jesus sent His disciples ahead by boat while He went to pray. During the night, the boat was tossed by waves far from land. In the fourth watch, Jesus came to them walking on the sea. The disciples were terrified, thinking He was a ghost, but He calmed them: “Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.” Peter asked to come to Him on the water, and Jesus invited him. Peter walked on water until he focused on the wind and began to sink. Jesus caught him, and they both entered the boat, at which point the wind ceased. This passage demonstrates that the One who made the laws of nature has complete authority to suspend them for those who trust Him.
The God Who Suspends Natural Laws
In today’s devotional, Pastor E.A. Adeboye takes us into the realm of the supernatural. He reveals that God is not bound by the laws He created. The same God who established gravity, buoyancy, and mathematics can suspend, reverse, or override them whenever He chooses. And the key that often unlocks these supernatural interventions is thanksgiving.
Laws Made for His Pleasure
The devotional begins with a foundational truth from Revelation 4:11: all things were created for God’s pleasure. This includes the physical laws that govern the universe. Gravity was made for His pleasure. Buoyancy was made for His pleasure. The principles of addition and subtraction were made for His pleasure.
This means that these laws are not independent forces that God must obey. They are His servants. And like any good master, He can tell His servants to step aside when He wants to do something special for His children.
Three Examples of Suspended Laws
Daddy Adeboye gives three powerful biblical examples of God suspending or reversing natural laws:
1. Jesus Walks on Water (Matthew 14):
The law of gravity states that human bodies sink in water. But Jesus is the Author of gravity. When He stepped onto the Sea of Galilee, gravity recognized its Master and stepped aside. He didn’t cancel gravity—it still worked everywhere else. But for that moment, in that place, for that purpose, the law was suspended.
And notice: when Peter asked to join Jesus, he also walked on water—until he looked at the wind and became afraid. As long as his eyes were on Jesus, the suspension continued. The moment fear and doubt entered, gravity returned.
2. The Floating Axe-Head (2 Kings 6):
This is one of the most striking miracles in the Old Testament. An iron axe-head fell into the River Jordan. Iron sinks. That’s the law of buoyancy. But Elisha threw a stick into the water, and the iron floated to the surface.
Think about what happened here: the wood, which should have floated, sank. The iron, which should have sunk, floated. God completely reversed the laws of physics to recover a borrowed tool for a distressed prophet. He cares about the small losses of His children.
3. The Multiplication of Loaves and Fishes (John 6):
The law of subtraction says that when you give something away, you have less. Five loaves and two fishes, distributed to thousands, should have run out immediately. But Jesus gave thanks, and the law of multiplication overruled the law of reduction. The more they gave, the more they had. The food didn’t just stretch—it increased.
The Weapon of Thanksgiving
What connects these miracles? In the multiplication of loaves, the Bible specifically mentions that Jesus gave thanks. In the walking on water, Jesus had just finished feeding the multitude—an act of provision that surely stirred gratitude. In the floating axe-head, Elisha acted with confidence in God’s supernatural power, which comes from a relationship of trust and thankfulness.
Daddy Adeboye makes it clear: thanksgiving is a powerful weapon that can cause God to suspend natural laws on your behalf. When you give thanks, you are doing several things:
- Acknowledging God as the Source: Thanksgiving declares that every good thing comes from Him. This positions you as a dependent child, not a self-sufficient adult.
- Entering His Presence: Psalm 100:4 says we enter His gates with thanksgiving. When you thank God, you step into the realm where miracles happen.
- Activating Faith: Thanksgiving focuses your mind on what God has already done, which builds confidence that He can do it again.
- Silencing the Enemy: The enemy wants you to complain. Complaining opens the door to destruction (1 Corinthians 10:10). Thanksgiving shuts that door.
Grumblers vs. The Thankful
The devotional draws a sharp contrast between two types of people:
- Grumblers and complainers: They experienced destruction in the wilderness. Their murmuring blocked their entry into the Promised Land. The complaint focuses on problems and invites more problems.
- The thankful: Jeremiah 30:19 promises that out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry, and God will multiply them. Thanksgiving invites multiplication.
How to Apply This Today
If you want to see God suspend natural laws for your situation—whether financial, physical, relational, or ministerial—here is what to do:
- Remember What He Has Done: The devotional encourages you to remember all that God has done and appreciate Him joyfully. Make a mental or written list of His past faithfulness.
- Give Thanks in Advance: Before you see the miracle, thank Him for it. Jesus gave thanks for the loaves before the multiplication happened. Your thanksgiving can precede your testimony.
- Thank Him Continually: Not just when things are good. Not just when you feel like it. Constant thanksgiving keeps you positioned for supernatural intervention.
- Refuse to Complain: When circumstances look impossible, guard your tongue. Complaining aligns you with the natural laws that say “it can’t be done.” Thanksgiving aligns you with the God who says, “nothing is impossible.”
The Laws That Need Suspending in Your Life
What natural laws are working against you right now?
- The law of economics: You need more than your salary can provide.
- The law of medicine: The doctors say your condition is incurable.
- The law of time: You feel too old to start over.
- The law of cause and effect: Your past mistakes should have destroyed your future.
These laws were made for God’s pleasure. And for His child, for His purpose, He can suspend them. He can make money multiply like loaves. He can make sickness flee like the iron floated. He can make time reverse like the sundial. He can make your future defy your past.
Conclusion: Give Thanks and Watch the Laws Bend
The God who walked on water is your God. The God who floated iron is your God. The God who multiplied bread is your God. He hasn’t changed. He still suspends laws for His children.
But He often waits for thanksgiving. Gratitude is the atmosphere where miracles breathe. When you thank Him, you are not just being polite—you are positioning yourself for the supernatural.
So today, look at your impossible situation and give thanks. Thank Him that He is bigger than gravity. Thank Him that He is stronger than economics. Thank Him that He is mightier than medicine. And watch what He does.
Pray this:
“Father, I thank You that You are the Creator of every law that governs the universe. I thank You that these laws are Your servants, not Your masters. Today, I ask You to suspend every natural law that is working against me. Let the iron float in my life. Let the bread multiply in my hands. Let me walk on the water of my impossibilities. I give You thanks in advance for the miracle. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Action Steps:
- Make a thanksgiving list: Write down at least ten things God has done for you. Read it aloud today.
- Identify the “law” working against you: Name the natural principle that says your situation is impossible. Then declare that God is above that law.
- Practice thanksgiving before the miracle: This week, when you face a problem, thank God for the solution before you see it.
- Guard your tongue: Catch yourself whenever a complaint rises. Replace it with thanksgiving, even if you have to force it at first.
