OPEN HEAVEN 18 SEPTEMBER 2025 TODAY DEVOTIONAL
TOPIC: YOU CAN GO HIGHER
MEMORISE:
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Matthew 5:6
READ: Psalm 63:1-5:
1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.
4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:
RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 18 SEPTEMBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE
No matter how high you have gone in God, you can go even higher. However, only those who are hungry for more will go higher. People who settle easily cannot move higher because they either think they have enough or lack the capacity or ability to achieve more.
I once travelled to Rivers, a state in Southern Nigeria, and ministered in several locations within the state. In one of the locations, while I was ministering, I laid my hands on some sick people.
When I finished, I wanted to wash my hands, so two ladies brought water and soap for me – one was carrying a bowl of soapy water, and the other was carrying a bowl with clean water. As I was washing my hands inside the bowl of soapy water, I sensed in my spirit that the lady carrying the bowl was hungry for the anointing. Suddenly, I felt the anointing of God flowing from me into the water, then through the bowl and into her hands.
Suddenly, she began to vibrate violently, and someone had to quickly take the bowl from her hands. The people around quickly got her a chair to sit on, but she continued shaking under the influence of the anointing.
The interesting thing was that the anointing was still in the water and in the bowl, but the person who took the bowl from her did not feel anything. He didn’t feel anything because he was not hungry for more.
Hunger attracts greater levels of the anointing and draws people into higher realms in God. Those who are hungry for more of God are always willing to pay the price. They don’t complain when it is time to fast or grumble when it is time to pray. Because they are hungry, they are willing and ready to do all it takes to go higher.
Are you hungry for more of God? Do you wish to go higher in God? Indeed, in John 7:37, it is those who thirst that Jesus invited to drink from Him. However, He also said you must come to Him before you can drink from Him. A lot of people talk about how they long to go higher; however, when the time comes to do what it takes to come to Him, they are the first to say that they can’t fast, pray, or study their Bibles for long.
Beloved, thirst to go higher in God, but also be prepared to give what it takes.
PRAYER POINT
Father, please fill my heart with great hunger for more. Help me pay the price to go higher, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 18 SEPTEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Matthew 5:6 (KJV)
“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”
This beatitude presents a spiritual principle: divine fulfillment is directly proportional to spiritual appetite. Hunger and thirst are not passive states; they are intense, driving desires that demand satisfaction. God promises that this specific craving—for right standing with Him and His nature—will be completely and abundantly satisfied.
BIBLE READING: Psalm 63:1-5 (KJV)
This psalm, written by David in the wilderness, is the ultimate expression of spiritual hunger. His physical need for water in a dry land is overshadowed by his soul’s desperate thirst for God. His longing is personal (“thee”), early (“will I seek thee”), and intense (“my flesh longeth for thee”). His satisfaction comes not from a change in circumstances, but from worship and meditation, which fills him with a joy as satisfying as “marrow and fatness.”
The Insatiable Appetite for More of God
Daddy Adeboye’s core message is that spiritual advancement is not automatic; it is fueled by a conscious, relentless hunger for more of God. Complacency and satisfaction with one’s current spiritual state are the greatest barriers to going higher. The devotional makes a stark distinction between those who are content with their current level of anointing and those who possess a holy dissatisfaction that drives them deeper.
The Bowl of Soapy Water: A Testament to Hunger
The personal testimony is a powerful modern-day parable. The anointing—the tangible power and presence of God—flowed not to the most important person in the room, but to the hungriest. It bypassed human structures and responded to the cry of a heart. The key interpretation is that the anointing is responsive. It moves toward hunger. The fact that the next person who held the bowl felt nothing proves that the vessel (the bowl) was not the source; the hunger of the individual was the conduit. God’s power is always available, but it is accessed by faith and fervent desire.
The Price of Progress
The devotional honestly addresses the cost of spiritual hunger. True hunger is not just a desire for an experience; it is a willingness to “pay the price.” This price includes:
- The Discipline of Fasting: Denying the physical body to feed the spirit.
- The Commitment to Prayer: Investing time in deep, consistent communion with God.
- The Diligence in Study: Mining the depths of God’s Word for revelation.
Those who are genuinely hungry do not complain about these disciplines; they embrace them as the necessary means to satisfy their souls’ deepest craving.
The Invitation and the Requirement
The message correctly ties spiritual hunger to Jesus’ invitation in John 7:37: “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.” The invitation is universal (“any man”), but it contains a requirement (“let him come”). The commentary exposes a common hypocrisy: many talk about longing for more of God but are unwilling to “come” to Him through the means He has prescribed (prayer, fasting, Word). True thirst will compel action. It will move a person from talking about longing to actually coming to the wellspring.
The Reward of Hunger
The reward for this hunger is twofold:
- Filling: The promise of Matthew 5:6 is that you “shall be filled.” This is not a partial measure but a complete saturation of the soul’s desire.
- Ascension: Hunger propels you “higher in God.” It leads to greater realms of glory, deeper intimacy, and increased spiritual authority and impact.
Pray this:
“Lord Jesus, I confess my spiritual apathy. Forgive me for being content with where I am. Today, I ask You to ignite a desperate, unquenchable hunger and thirst for righteousness in my soul. I want more of You. I refuse to settle. Give me the grace to pay the price—to seek You early, to pray without ceasing, to fast consistently, and to meditate on Your Word day and night. Let my hunger attract a greater measure of Your anointing and draw me into deeper realms of Your glory. I come to You now, as the thirsty one, to drink deeply from the river of Your life. Amen.”
Action Steps:
- Conduct a Hunger Audit: On a scale of 1-10, how hungry are you for God? What specific things (distractions, sins, comforts) are suppressing your appetite?
- Create a “Wilderness” Time: Intentionally create a space each day that is free from distractions (a “wilderness”) to seek God like David did. Pour out your soul to Him.
- Commit to a Discipline: Choose one area of the “price” you have neglected (e.g., fasting, extended prayer). Make a concrete plan to incorporate it this week.
- Position Yourself: Be like the woman with the bowl. Position yourself in places and services where God’s presence is moving. Go with expectancy, ready to receive.
- Pray for Hunger: Make “Lord, make me hungry for You” a daily prayer. True spiritual hunger itself is a gift from God.
Remember: Your spiritual ceiling is determined by the depth of your hunger. God has infinitely more of Himself to reveal to you. Do not settle for the tales of those who crossed the Red Sea when God is inviting you to possess the Promised Land. Let your heart cry be: “More, Lord!” For it is to those who hunger and thirst that the promise of filling is guaranteed.
