TOPIC: REVERSING FAILURE
MEMORISE
Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
Psalm 30:11
READ: Luke 5:1-10
1 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.
3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:
10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.
RCCG OPEN HEAVENS 19 APRIL 2026 TODAY MESSAGE
In today’s Bible reading, Peter had fished all night and caught nothing. Even though he toiled throughout the night, he had nothing to show for his efforts. However, God turned his failure into an instant success by arranging a divine encounter for him.
After hosting Jesus in his boat, he caught so many fishes that his net broke. As he couldn’t handle the size of his catch alone, he had to beckon to other fishermen to help him. Instantly, his failure was reversed, and he experienced a great turnaround.
When my mother was alive, I used to travel to Illesha, which was very close to my hometown in western Nigeria, to visit her every two weeks. On one such visit, I was about to eat when a man was brought inside the house. At first glance, I thought he was a madman, based on his appearance.
However, I learnt that he was a highly educated man who used to be very wealthy before the enemy attacked him in a very strange way. He had a problem that no doctor on earth could handle.
He told me that insects of all kinds usually come out of his body at regular intervals, and he had spent everything he had seeking a solution to this spiritual attack. He had also sold all his clothes and had resorted to wearing rags.
Thankfully, God had mercy on him and arranged a divine encounter for him. When he told me his story, I asked him, “Will you give your life to Jesus Christ?” I explained to him that his battle was one that only God could help him win. He gave his life to Jesus Christ, and we prayed a simple prayer before he left.
Two weeks after that incident, I went back to Ilesha to visit my mother as usual. Again, as I sat down to eat, a handsome, well-dressed man walked into the room. As he saw that I could not recognise him, he said, “It seems you don’t recognise me.” I replied, ” I don’t think we have ever met.”
He then responded, “I was the one you prayed for two weeks ago. Look at what God has done in my life in just two weeks!” Beloved, I pray that any cycle of failure in your life will be reversed for good, and you will begin to enjoy cycles of blessings and miracles, in Jesus’ name
PRAYER POINT:
Father, please reverse every cycle of failure in my life for good, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL 19 APRIL 2026 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Psalm 30:11
“Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness.”
This verse captures the essence of God’s turnaround power. He doesn’t just comfort us in our mourning—He turns the mourning itself into dancing. He doesn’t just remove our sackcloth—He replaces it with gladness. The picture is complete transformation: what was sad becomes joyful, what was heavy becomes light, what was dark becomes bright. This is what God specializes in.
BIBLE READING: Luke 5:1-10
This passage records the miraculous catch of fish that changed Peter’s life forever. Peter had fished all night and caught nothing—a night of complete failure despite his skill and effort. Jesus borrowed his boat as a pulpit, teaching the multitude from it. After finishing, He told Peter, “Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.” Peter protested, “Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing,” but added, “nevertheless at thy word, I will let down the net.” The result was so many fish that their net broke, and they had to call partners to help. Both boats began to sink with the load. Peter fell at Jesus’ knees, overwhelmed by the miracle. Jesus then called him to a new assignment: “From henceforth thou shalt catch men.” This passage demonstrates that one encounter with Jesus can reverse a lifetime of failure and launch you into your destiny.
From Failure to Abundance
In today’s devotional, Pastor E.A. Adeboye continues his teaching on divine appointments, showing how God specializes in turning complete failure into overwhelming success. When you meet Jesus, the story doesn’t just improve—it completely reverses.
Peter’s Night of Nothing
The Bible reading sets the scene perfectly. Peter was a professional fisherman. He knew the waters, he knew the fish, he knew the best times to catch. He had done everything right—worked all night, used his skill, put in maximum effort. And he had nothing to show for it.
Empty nets. Empty boat. Empty hands.
This wasn’t just a bad day—it was a complete failure. Peter was probably exhausted, frustrated, and discouraged. He was washing his nets, perhaps wondering if he should change careers.
Then Jesus stepped into his boat.
Notice what happened first: Jesus used Peter’s boat as a platform to preach. He didn’t start with a miracle. He didn’t start with a promise. He just borrowed what Peter had—even though it was empty from a night of failed fishing—and used it for His purposes.
After teaching, Jesus gave a seemingly illogical command: “Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.” Peter’s response is crucial: “Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing.” That was the report of his senses. But then he added the words that changed everything: “NEVERTHELESS AT THY WORD, I will let down the net.”
One net, let down at Jesus’ word, produced more fish than two boats could carry. The net broke. The boats began to sink. Failure turned into abundance so overwhelming it was almost dangerous.
This is what happens when you encounter Jesus. He doesn’t just give you a little—He gives you so much that your capacity is stretched. He doesn’t just fill your net—He breaks it. He doesn’t just fill your boat—He sinks it with blessing.
The Man Who Looked Like a Madman
Daddy Adeboye shares another powerful testimony of divine turnaround. During his visits to his mother in Ilesha, a man was brought into the house who looked completely insane. He was dressed in rags, his appearance was wild, and at first glance, anyone would have labeled him a madman.
But this man had a story. He was highly educated. He had been very wealthy. Then the enemy attacked him in a strange way: at regular intervals, insects of all kinds would come out of his body. No doctor could explain it. No medicine could stop it. He had spent everything he owned seeking help. He had sold all his clothes. He was now wearing rags, desperate and hopeless.
This man had a divine appointment. He was brought to where Daddy Adeboye was sitting. When he heard the story, Daddy Adeboye asked a simple question: “Will you give your life to Jesus Christ? Your battle is one that only God can help you win.”
The man said yes. They prayed a simple prayer, and he left.
Two weeks later, Daddy Adeboye returned to Ilesha. As he sat down to eat, a handsome, well-dressed man walked into the room. Daddy Adeboye didn’t recognize him. The man said, “It seems you don’t recognize me.” Daddy Adeboye admitted he didn’t think they had met.
The man replied: “I was the one you prayed for two weeks ago. Look at what God has done in my life in just two weeks!”
The man who looked like a madman, dressed in rags, plagued by demonic insects, became a handsome, well-dressed testimony in fourteen days. That’s a divine turnaround.
The Pattern of Divine Reversal
From these testimonies, we see a clear pattern of how God reverses failure:
- Failure Comes First: Both Peter and the afflicted man experienced deep failure before their breakthrough. Peter fished all night with nothing. The man lost everything and ended in rags. Sometimes God allows us to reach the end of our resources so we can discover the beginning of His.
- A Divine Encounter Occurs: Peter met Jesus in his boat. The man was brought to Daddy Adeboye. God arranges meetings that change everything. You don’t have to find your way out—He finds His way to you.
- Obedience Is Required: Peter had to let down the net despite his exhaustion and doubt. The man had to give his life to Christ. The encounter requires a response.
- The Turnaround Is Immediate: Peter went from empty nets to sinking boats in moments. The man went from rags to well-dressed in two weeks. When God moves, He moves fast.
- The Blessing Overwhelms: Peter’s net broke. The boats sank. The transformation was so complete it was almost too much to handle. God doesn’t do small turnarounds.
What Kind of Failure Needs Reversing?
The devotional speaks to every form of failure:
- Career failure: You’ve worked hard but have nothing to show
- Financial failure: You’ve lost everything and are in rags
- Family failure: Relationships have broken down completely
- Health failure: Your body is under attack with no solution
- Spiritual failure: You feel far from God, trapped in sin
- Emotional failure: You’re exhausted, discouraged, ready to give up
Whatever form your failure has taken, the God who filled Peter’s nets and restored the afflicted man is your God.
How to Position Yourself for Turnaround
- Give Jesus Your Boat: Peter let Jesus use his boat—his place of failure—as a platform. Offer your failed situation to God. Let Him use it for His purposes.
- Obey His Word Despite Your Experience: Peter could have argued. He had fished all night. He was the expert. But he said, “Nevertheless at thy word.” Your experience and expertise mean nothing compared to His command.
- Surrender Your Life: The afflicted man gave his life to Christ. That was the turning point. If you haven’t fully surrendered, that’s where your turnaround begins.
- Expect Immediate Change: Don’t put God on a timeline. He can do in two weeks what you couldn’t do in years. Stay expectant.
- Prepare for Overflow: Peter’s nets broke. His boats sank. When God turns things around, it’s not just enough—it’s too much. Get ready for abundance.
Conclusion: Your Cycle of Failure Is Broken
The devotional ends with a powerful declaration: “I pray that any cycle of failure in your life will be reversed for good, and you will begin to enjoy cycles of blessings and miracles.”
Notice the word “cycle.” Some people aren’t just failing—they’re in a cycle of failure. The same problems keep coming back. The same patterns keep repeating. The same disappointments keep happening.
But when God reverses the irreversible, He doesn’t just fix one situation—He breaks the cycle. He changes the pattern. He establishes a new rhythm of blessing.
Your night of fishing with nothing is over. Your days in rags are finished. Your season of failure has met its match. Jesus is in your boat, and He’s about to give you a catch that breaks your nets.
Pray this:
“Father, I bring my failure to You today. I’ve worked hard and have nothing to show. I’ve tried everything and ended in rags. But You are the God who turns mourning into dancing. Step into my boat. Speak to my situation. I will obey Your word, even when it doesn’t make sense. Reverse my failure. Break the cycle. Give me abundance so overwhelming that my capacity stretches. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Action Steps:
- Identify your “all night”: What area have you worked hard in with nothing to show? Write it down.
- Give Jesus your boat: This week, consciously offer that failed area to God. Let Him use it as He pleases.
- Practice “nevertheless”: When God’s word contradicts your experience, choose His word. Write down a specific command He’s given you that you’ve been resisting.
- Prepare for overflow: Start making room for the blessing. Clear space, mentally and physically, for the abundance God is bringing.
