OPEN HEAVEN 19 JULY 2025 TODAY DEVOTIONAL

TOPIC: BE KIND ALWAYS

MEMORISE:
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
Ephesians 4:32

READ: Joshua 2:1-24

1 And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot’s house, named Rahab, and lodged there.
2 And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country.
3 And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country.
4 And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were:
5 And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.

6 But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.
7 And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.
8 And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;
9 And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
10 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.

11 And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
12 Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the Lord, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token:
13 And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.
14 And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the Lord hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.
15 Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.

16 And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.
17 And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.
18 Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father’s household, home unto thee.
19 And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.
20 And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.

21 And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.
22 And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.
23 So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them:
24 And they said unto Joshua, Truly the Lord hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.

RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 19 JULY 2025 TODAY MESSAGE

Some people speak to strangers rudely, especially those who seem to be of a lower social status than them. Some other people answer phone calls from phone numbers that are not on their contact list as if the fellow on the line is being a nuisance. They don’t wait to know who is on the line; they just pick up and ask harshly, “Who’s this?!”

Hebrews 13:2 says that you should be kind to all men because you don’t know when you will meet an angel. Do you know that God can send your helper to you through a phone call?

I shared a story in this devotional two days ago about how I was in need of £50 during a trip to the UK several years ago. I asked God for £50, and some minutes later, my phone rang. The fellow at the other end said, “Biyi?” I replied, “There’s no Biyi here.” He asked, “Is that not so and so number?” I said, “Yes, but there’s no Biyi here.” So, he said, “I’m sorry.” I replied, “That’s okay, God bless you.”

Then he said, “What do you mean God bless me? How do you know God?” I replied, “He’s my saviour.” Then he asked, “Who am I talking to?” I told him my name, and that was how God used him to answer my request for £50.

Imagine if I had spoken harshly to him because I didn’t know him and we were only speaking because he had dialled the wrong number, I would have missed God’s blessing.

In today’s Bible reading, Rahab the harlot showed kindness to the spies. She took a big risk by keeping them in her house. Her kindness later saved her family when the walls of Jericho crumbled (Joshua 6:22-25). It also positioned her as one of the great-great-grandmothers of Jesus (Matthew 1:5) and ensured she was included in the hall of faith (Hebrews 11:31).

Proverbs 31:26 tells us about the virtuous woman who opens her mouth with wisdom and has the law of kindness in her tongue. Be kind with your words and in your actions towards others. Let your words make people hopeful, not depressed and dejected. You will reap whatever seed you sow.

Beloved, God could decide to answer your prayer through a ‘wrong number’ call or a random conversation with a complete stranger. This is why you should always be kind and courteous. I pray you won’t miss God’s blessings for you, in Jesus’ name.

HYMN 59: I WANT TO BE LIKE JESUS

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 19 JULY 2025 COMMENTARY

MEMORISE: Ephesians 4:32

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”

This verse establishes kindness as a non-negotiable Christian virtue—not just a social nicety. It reminds us that our kindness should mirror God’s unconditional forgiveness toward us.

BIBLE READING: Joshua 2:1-24

The story of Rahab and the spies demonstrates how one act of kindness:

  • Saved her family from destruction (Joshua 6:25)
  • Secured her place in Christ’s lineage (Matthew 1:5)
  • Earned her eternal recognition (Hebrews 11:31)

Divine Appointments in Disguise

The devotional combines Pastor Adeboye’s £50 phone call miracle with Rahab’s story to reveal a profound truth: God often sends blessings through unexpected channels—if we don’t reject them with rudeness.

1. Why Kindness Matters Eternally

  • Angels Unaware (Hebrews 13:2):
    • Every stranger could be a divine messenger (Genesis 18:1-5).
    • Pastor Adeboye’s polite response to a “wrong number” unlocked his miracle.
  • The Rahab Principle:
    • Her kindness to spies (enemies!) rewrote her bloodline and legacy.

2. Modern-Day Rudeness That Blocks Blessings

  • Harsh Phone Responses:
    • “Who’s this?!” vs. “Hello, how may I help you?”
  • Class Discrimination:
    • Snubbing “lower status” people (James 2:1-4).
  • Service Industry Disrespect:
    • Mistreating waiters, cleaners, etc., unaware they might be God’s agents.

3. The Law of Kindness (Proverbs 31:26)

  • Speech That Heals:
    • “Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul” (Proverbs 16:24).
  • Actions That Speak:
    • Giving a meal (Matthew 10:42), offering rides, or simply smiling.

4. Consequences of Unkindness

  • Missed Divine Encounters:
    • Like Nabal insulting David’s men (1 Samuel 25:10-13), rudeness invites judgment.
  • Generational Impact:
    • Rahab’s kindness blessed her descendants; unkindness can curse them (Exodus 20:5).

How to Cultiate Habitual Kindness

  1. See Christ in Everyone (Matthew 25:40):
    • Treat strangers as you would Jesus.
  2. Pause Before Responding (James 1:19):
    • Ask: “Is this how I’d want my angelic helper treated?”
  3. Practice “Reverse Rudeness”:
    • When others are harsh, respond with gentleness (Proverbs 15:1).
  4. Pray for a Tender Heart:
    • “Lord, make me sensitive to divine appointments in disguise.”

Conclusion: Your Next Kindness Could Be Your Breakthrough

Ask yourself:

  • “Have I been rude to ‘nobodies’ who might be God’s ‘somebodies’?”
  • “What blessings might I have missed through impatience or pride?”

Prayer:
“Father, uproot every seed of rudeness in me. Help me to sow kindness relentlessly, knowing I may entertain angels unawares. Let my words and actions open doors for Your miracles, in Jesus’ name!”

Remember: Heaven records your kindnesses—even a cup of water given in love (Mark 9:41). Your “Rahab moment” or “wrong number miracle” is coming—will you be kind enough to recognize it?

“As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:10).
