TOPIC: DELIVERANCE FROM CAREER AND ACADEMIC BURDENS

MEMORISE:
But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
Proverbs 4:18

READ: Luke 5:1-7

And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.
3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.

4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

RCCG OPEN HEAVENS 19 JULY 2026 TODAY MESSAGE

In today’s Bible reading, Peter fished all night but caught nothing. He must have been frustrated, and I can relate to how he must have felt because I love to fish. I often go fishing to relax, and sometimes, within five minutes of throwing my hook in the water, I make a catch. On other occasions, however, I might spend an hour without catching any fish. Peter’s efforts that night were in vain, not because he wasn’t working hard, but because things just weren’t working out for him.

When I was still a lecturer at the University of Lagos, an advertisement was made for a position at a company, and a professor applied. He was invited for an interview, and on getting to the venue of the interview, he found out that the chairman of the panel of interviewers was his former student who had graduated recently. When the professor saw him, he said, “I am sorry. I have come to the wrong room.” However, the young man told him that he was in the right room. The professor felt ashamed because he was definitely not where he was meant to be in his career.

Some people fail in their careers and academics not because they are lazy, but because they are carrying heavy burdens of opposition from the devil that prevent them from being successful.

Such people will not be able to succeed despite their best efforts. However, when Jesus, the Burden Bearer, steps into their lives, their situations will turn around for good.

A young man once came to me for prayers. He told me that his boss always opposed him because of his Christian faith. The boss went as far as saying that he would never get promoted as long as he was his boss. Due to that, the young man remained stagnant in the company. I prayed with him and decreed in the name of Jesus that every mountain that was blocking his way should be removed.

Shortly after, his boss was transferred to another location, and the young man was promoted. After a while, the boss was moved back, but by then, the young man had already been promoted to the same level as his former boss. Just one decree in the name of the Burden Bearer turned his situation around.

Beloved, are you experiencing stagnation in your career or academics? I decree today that every burden of opposition against your career or academics is removed now, in Jesus’ name.

PRAYER POINT

Lord, please deliver me from all opposition in my life, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL 19 JULY 2026 COMMENTARY

MEMORISE: Proverbs 4:18

“But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.”

This verse describes the believer’s journey as one of progressive brightness.

BIBLE READING: Luke 5:1-7

This passage records the miraculous catch of fish after a night of fruitless labor. Simon Peter and his companions had toiled all night and caught nothing. Jesus told Peter to launch out into the deep and let down his nets for a catch. Peter responded, “Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.” When they did, they caught such a great multitude of fish that their net broke, and they had to signal their partners in the other ship to come help. Both ships were filled so full that they began to sink.

The Frustration of Toiling Without Results

1. Peter’s Night of Emptiness

“In today’s Bible reading, Peter fished all night but caught nothing. He must have been frustrated, and I can relate to how he must have felt because I love to fish. I often go fishing to relax, and sometimes, within five minutes of throwing my hook in the water, I make a catch. On other occasions, however, I might spend an hour without catching any fish.”

Peter’s EffortPeter’s Result
Fished all nightCaught nothing
Experienced, professional fishermanEmpty nets
Worked hardNo reward for his labor

“Peter’s efforts that night were in vain, not because he wasn’t working hard, but because things just weren’t working out for him.”

This is the experience of many people in their careers and academics. They are not lazy. They are not unqualified. They work hard, study long, put in the hours, but the results do not come. Promotions are denied. Opportunities pass them by. They toil all night and catch nothing.

What Is Not the ProblemWhat May Be the Problem
Lack of effortSpiritual opposition
Lack of qualificationBurdens of stagnation
Laziness or carelessnessThe devil blocking their path

The Professor and His Former Student

“When I was still a lecturer at the University of Lagos, an advertisement was made for a position at a company, and a professor applied. He was invited for an interview, and on getting to the venue of the interview, he found out that the chairman of the panel of interviewers was his former student who had graduated recently. When the professor saw him, he said, ‘I am sorry. I have come to the wrong room.’ However, the young man told him that he was in the right room. The professor felt ashamed because he was definitely not where he was meant to be in his career.”

The Professor’s SituationThe Irony
A professor (high academic rank)Interviewing for a position under a recent graduate
Should have been ahead in his careerFound himself behind someone he once taught
Felt ashamedRecognized he was not where he should be

This professor was not lazy. He had credentials. He had experience. But something had gone wrong. He was stagnant while his former student advanced.

“Some people fail in their careers and academics not because they are lazy, but because they are carrying heavy burdens of opposition from the devil that prevent them from being successful.”

The Burden of OppositionHow It Manifests
Demonic hindranceDoors that should open remain closed
Spiritual stagnationPromotions that should come do not happen
Unseen barriersOthers advance while you remain stuck

“Such people will not be able to succeed despite their best efforts. However, when Jesus, the Burden Bearer, steps into their lives, their situations will turn around for good.”

The Young Man Opposed by His Boss

1. The Stagnation

“A young man once came to me for prayers. He told me that his boss always opposed him because of his Christian faith. The boss went as far as saying that he would never get promoted as long as he was his boss. Due to that, the young man remained stagnant in the company.”

The Young Man’s SituationThe Source of Opposition
Faithful ChristianHis boss opposed him because of his faith
Deserving of promotionDenied promotion because of the boss’s hostility
Stagnant, stuckThe boss declared: “You will never get promoted as long as I am your boss”

This was not a matter of performance. It was a matter of spiritual opposition manifesting through a human agent. The boss had made a declaration, and that declaration was blocking the young man’s progress.

2. The Decree of Deliverance

“I prayed with him and decreed in the name of Jesus that every mountain that was blocking his way should be removed.”

“Shortly after, his boss was transferred to another location, and the young man was promoted. After a while, the boss was moved back, but by then, the young man had already been promoted to the same level as his former boss.”

What HappenedThe Result
Daddy Adeboye decreed the removal of every mountainThe boss was transferred
The young man was promotedHe moved up
The boss returned laterThe young man was now at the same level

“Just one decree in the name of the Burden Bearer turned his situation around.”

Before the DecreeAfter the Decree
Stagnant, blocked by a hostile bossBoss transferred, promotion received
At the mercy of his oppressorEqual to his former oppressor
No hope of advancementTurnaround in a short time

This is what the Burden Bearer does. He removes mountains. He transfers opposition. He opens doors that were sealed shut. He turns the tables.

The Root of Stagnation: Spiritual Burdens

Daddy Adeboye identifies that career and academic stagnation often have spiritual roots. Hard work alone cannot overcome these burdens.

Natural SolutionsWhat They Cannot Fix
More educationDemonic opposition
Harder workSpiritual barriers
Better networkingCurses or negative declarations
Changing jobsA burden following you

“I decree today that every burden of opposition against your career or academics is removed now, in Jesus’ name.”

How to Experience Career and Academic Breakthrough (Practical Steps)

Based on Daddy Adeboye’s teaching and the biblical example of Peter, here is how to receive the Burden Bearer’s intervention:

1. Acknowledge That You Cannot Do It Alone

Peter was a professional fisherman. He knew how to fish. But all his expertise produced nothing until Jesus spoke. Likewise, your qualifications and hard work are not enough if there is a spiritual burden blocking you. Acknowledge your need for divine intervention.

2. Invite Jesus into Your Situation

Jesus got into Peter’s boat. He did not stand on the shore and shout instructions. He entered Peter’s workplace. Invite Jesus into your career, your office, your studies, your job search. Say: “Lord, come into this situation. I cannot succeed without You.”

3. Obey Even When It Doesn’t Make Sense

Peter said, “We have toiled all night and taken nothing; nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.” He had every reason to ignore Jesus. But he obeyed. Is there an instruction God has given you about your career or academics that you have ignored? A direction to apply somewhere? A prompting to start something? Obey at His word.

4. Pray Against the Burden of Opposition

Specifically pray against:

  • Demonic hindrances blocking your progress
  • Negative declarations spoken over your career
  • Spiritual stagnation
  • Enemies of your advancement

Pray: “Every mountain blocking my way, be removed in Jesus’ name.”

5. Decree Your Advancement

Words have power. The boss declared that the young man would never be promoted. That declaration held him back until a greater declaration was made in Jesus’ name. Decree:

  • “I am not stagnant. I am advancing.”
  • “Doors that have been closed are opening now.”
  • “Every opposition is being removed.”

Warning: Do Not Mistake Spiritual Warfare for Ordinary Difficulty

Daddy Adeboye’s devotional carries an urgent discernment: not every struggle is natural. Not every failure is your fault.

Ordinary DifficultySpiritual Burden of Opposition
You fail because you didn’t prepareYou work hard but still fail
You lack qualificationsYou have qualifications but no opportunity
The economy is badOthers in the same economy are advancing
You need more skillsNo amount of skill changes your situation

If you have tried everything natural and still remain stuck, you may be facing a spiritual burden. Do not keep applying natural solutions to a supernatural problem. Bring it to the Burden Bearer.

Conclusion: Your Prayer for Career and Academic Breakthrough

Daddy Adeboye closes with a decree of removal over every burden of opposition. Receive it by faith.

Pray this:

“Lord Jesus, I come to You as the Burden Bearer. Peter fished all night and caught nothing—until You spoke. I have been working hard, studying hard, applying, striving—but the results have not come. I acknowledge that there may be a spiritual burden of opposition against my career and academics. Today, I ask You to step into my boat. Remove every mountain blocking my way. Transfer every opposition that stands against me. Nullify every negative declaration spoken over my progress. I decree that I am advancing. I decree that doors are opening. I decree that stagnation is broken. The path of the just shines more and more unto the perfect day, and I am on that path. Thank You for my turnaround. In Jesus’ mighty name.”

Action Steps:

  1. The Career Audit: Identify areas where you have been stagnant despite your best efforts. Write them down. Ask God: Is there a spiritual burden causing this?
  2. The Obedience Check: Has the Lord given you any instruction about your career or academics that you have ignored? (A job to apply for? A skill to learn? A person to contact?) Obey it this week.
  3. The Decree of Advancement: Write down a positive declaration for your career or academics based on Proverbs 4:18: “My path is shining more and more. I am advancing. I am not stagnant.”Speak it aloud every morning for 30 days.
