2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.
3 Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.

10 And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the Lord; and they shall be afraid of thee.
11 And the Lord shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
12 The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
13 And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 20 SEPTEMBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE

Many years ago, I went to preach in Onitsha, a town in South-Eastern Nigeria. On my way back to Lagos, I needed to refuel my car, so l stopped at Asaba to buy some fuel.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t get any. I kept driving until I got to Benin, but I still couldn’t get any fuel to buy. I continued my journey until I got to Ore. By then, the car’s fuel tank was on reserve. I didn’t know what to do. It was a Sunday evening, and I had to give some lectures the next morning.

Then, God spoke to me, “Son, take your eyes off the gauge and keep driving.” I drove the car on reserve fuel from Ore until I parked in my house in Surulere (over 200km).

God can bring something out of nothing, but for you to enjoy His blessings, you must be obedient to Him. When He says go, you should go, and when He says stop, you must stop.

Proverbs 3:5 says that you should not lean on your own understanding.

In John 5:2-9, there was an account of a man who had been ill for thirty-eight years. Jesus saw him lying by a pool and asked him, “Do you wish to get well?” The sick man answered, “Sir, I have no man to put me in the pool when the water is troubled.” Jesus then said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” Immediately, the man became well and began to walk. His simple obedience to Jesus’ instruction to rise and take up his bed broke the bondage he was in for thirty-eight years.

No matter how long a problem has existed, once God sends His word and you obey Him, you will have total freedom.

More than four decades ago, I was to travel outside Nigeria for the first time and had never been inside an aeroplane before. I was a lecturer at the University of Lagos and was to give a presentation in Sierra Leone. I was a bit anxious because I had never travelled outside

the country, but then, somebody gave me instructions on how to clear myself at the airport. I listened, obeyed the instructions, and my journey was successful.

Beloved, when God gives you an instruction, don’t think you are wiser than Him. He knows the end from the beginning and the best pathway for your life. If you want to succeed in life, simply obey God’s instructions. Obedience always precedes the miraculous.

KEY POINT

The key to becoming successful is simply obeying God’s instructions.

HYMN 30: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 20 SEPTEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY

MEMORISE: James 1:22 (KJV)
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
This verse draws a critical distinction between intellectual assent and active obedience. To hear the word without acting on it is to engage in self-deception, creating a false sense of spirituality that has no power to change circumstances. True faith is always validated by corresponding action.

BIBLE READING: Deuteronomy 28:1-13 (KJV)
This passage details the extensive blessings that are conditional upon obedience. Verse 1 sets the foundation: “And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments… all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee.” The blessings described—from personal prosperity to national preeminence—are not random acts of kindness but the guaranteed outcome of a life aligned with God’s commands.

Obedience: The Gateway to the Supernatural

Daddy Adeboye uses two powerful personal testimonies to illustrate that obedience is the catalyst that releases God’s supernatural provision into natural impossibility. The car running on an empty tank defied the laws of physics because it was operating on a higher law: the law of obedience to God’s direct command. The instruction, “take your eyes off the gauge and keep driving,” was a test of faith that required ignoring physical evidence and trusting divine assurance. The miracle was activated by his choice to obey.

The Anatomy of an Instruction

The devotional analyzes different types of divine instructions:

  1. Direct Rhema Word: As in the fuel miracle, a specific, personal command from God that transcends general wisdom.
  2. Scriptural Principle: The general commandments in God’s Word, like those in Deuteronomy 28, which carry promised blessings for obedience.
  3. Practical Wisdom: As with the airport instructions, God often uses wise counsel and practical steps to guide us. Obedience to these is still obedience to God.

Breaking Long-Standing Bondages

The account of the invalid at the Pool of Bethesda (John 5:2-9) is a masterclass in how obedience breaks chains. The man had been bound for 38 years, trapped in a cycle of excuses and failed solutions (“I have no man…”). Jesus bypassed all that and gave a simple, illogical command: “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” For a man who couldn’t walk, being told to stand and carry his bed was impossible. Yet, his obedience—the act of willing his muscles to move in faith—became the point of contact for his healing. The lesson is profound: Obedience is the key that turns the lock of God’s power, no matter how long the door has been shut.

The Folly of Leaning on Understanding

The message consistently warns against the trap of human reasoning. Proverbs 3:5 is the governing principle. Obedience often requires acting in ways that seem foolish to human logic:

  • Driving a car with an empty fuel gauge.
  • A paralyzed man trying to stand.
  • Marching around a city to make its walls fall (Joshua 6).
  • Filling pots with water to become wine (John 2).
God’s instructions are designed to bypass our limited understanding and force us to rely entirely on His infinite wisdom and power.

The Outcome: Blessings That Overtake

The result of obedience is not just a solved problem; it is a life flooded with blessing. Deuteronomy 28 says the blessings will “overtake” you. This implies that when you are in alignment with God’s commands, you position yourself in the path of His favor, which will find you and overwhelm you. Obedience precedes the miraculous because it creates the spiritual conditions for God’s power to flow unimpeded.

Pray this:
“Heavenly Father, I repent for the times I have been a hearer of Your word and not a doer, deceiving myself. Forgive me for leaning on my own understanding and allowing logic to override obedience. Today, I surrender my will. Give me a heart that is quick to obey Your voice, whether through Your Word, Your Spirit, or godly counsel. I break the power of delay and excuse over my life. I choose to obey, even when it doesn’t make sense, trusting that Your commands are always for my blessing and Your glory. Let my obedience unlock the miraculous in my life today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Action Steps:

  1. Identify an Unobeyed Prompt: Is there a specific instruction from God (e.g., to forgive someone, to start a ministry, to give an offering, to apologize) that you have been delaying?
  2. Act on It Today: Do not delay. Your miracle is waiting on the other side of that obedience.
  3. Study Obedience: Read and meditate on Deuteronomy 28 this week. Write down the blessings attached to obedience and pray them over your life.
  4. Practice Immediate Obedience: Train your spirit to respond immediately to the gentle nudges of the Holy Spirit throughout your day.
  5. Testify: When you obey and see God’s miraculous provision, share your testimony. It will encourage others and strengthen your own faith.

Remember: Your obedience is the conduit through which God’s power flows into your situation. You do not need to understand the command to obey it; you only need to trust the Commander. The size of your miracle will always correspond to the level of your obedience. Do not just listen to God’s word; do what it says. For it is in the act of doing that the supernatural becomes your natural reality.
