OPEN HEAVEN 25 NOVEMBER 2025 TODAY DEVOTIONAL

TOPIC: LET THEM FLY

MEMORISE:
And it shall come to pass afterward, that l will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
Joel 2:28

READ: Numbers 11:10-29:
10 Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent: and the anger of the Lord was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased.
11 And Moses said unto the Lord, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?
12 Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?
13 Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
14 I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.
15 And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.

16 And the Lord said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee.
17 And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.
18 And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the Lord, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore the Lord will give you flesh, and ye shall eat.
19 Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;
20 But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the Lord which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?

21 And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.
22 Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them?
23 And the Lord said unto Moses, Is the Lord’S hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.
24 And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the Lord, and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the tabernacle.
25 And the Lord came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.

26 But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.
27 And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.
28 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.
29 And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the Lord’S people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!

RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 25 NOVEMBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE

In today’s Bible reading, God took part of the spirit upon Moses and put it on 70 elders because he had complained that the burden of leading the Israelites was too much for him to bear.

When the 70 elders began to prophesy, a young man came to tell Moses that two men who were not part of them were also prophesying. On hearing this, Joshua told Moses to stop them.

However, Moses replied that he didn’t mind if the Lord put His Spirit on all His people because that was His ultimate will. Moses was a true leader, and true leaders allow their followers to fly.

Someone once asked a pastor, “Why don’t you encourage the Holy Ghost baptism among your congregation?” He replied, “Because if they get the power of the Holy Spirit, they will outrun us, their pastors.”

This amazed me because my prayer is that my children will be greater than I am. Every time I pray for the pastors in RCCG, I ask God to double the anointing on my life and give it to them because, if that happens, my job will be easier.

For example, when a corpse is brought to the church to be raised back to life, wouldn’t it be wonderful if an usher could call the dead person back to life without my intervention or any other pastor’s intervention.

Many pastors do almost everything in their churches because they feel they are the only ones who can handle them; such pastors only end up stressing themselves unnecessarily.

How can God bring increase to the church if ministers don’t endeavour to raise others to serve God in ministry? When pastors ask God to empower their congregations, and all their members are on fire for God, there will be a great revival, and the ministry will move forward.

While it is true that when everyone in a congregation carries a measure of God’s power they may become restless and grow tired of just hearing the pastor preach, a wise pastor won’t hold them back.

Instead, the pastor should train them and put them in new territories so they can impact others with the anointing they’ve been empowered with. Yes, they might make some mistakes, but with the pastor’s guidance and God’s help, they will succeed.

Beloved, if you’re a leader in any capacity, seek the growth and empowerment of the people who serve under you because it will make your job easier. In addition, when they become empowered, let them fly.

KEY POINT

True leaders seek the empowerment of the people who serve under them so they can fly.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR

Romans 4-7

HYMN 32: TO THE WORK! TO THE WORK! WE ARE SERVANTS OF GOD

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 25 NOVEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY

MEMORISE: Joel 2:28 (KJV)
“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.”
This prophetic promise reveals God’s ultimate will for the distribution of His Spirit: it is not meant to be restricted to a select few leaders, but to be poured out on all His people, regardless of age, gender, or official position, empowering them all for prophetic ministry.

BIBLE READING: Numbers 11:10-29
This passage provides a powerful Old Testament model of shared anointing and leadership:

  • v. 10-17: Moses is overwhelmed by the burden of leading the people alone. God’s solution is not to make Moses stronger, but to share the Spirit that is on him with seventy elders.
  • v. 24-25: The Lord takes of the Spirit that was upon Moses and places it on the seventy elders, and they prophesy.
  • v. 26-29: Two men, Eldad and Medad, who remained in the camp, also prophesy. Joshua, in a protective zeal for Moses’s exclusive authority, asks Moses to forbid them. Moses’ legendary response is: “Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD’s people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!”

The Moses Model: Leading by Empowering, Not Controlling

Pastor E.A. Adeboye delivers a crucial message for every leader in the body of Christ, contrasting a scarcity mindset with an abundance mindset. He teaches that true leadership, modeled by Moses and Jesus, is not threatened by the success of followers but is fulfilled by empowering them to do even greater works.

1. The Scarcity Mindset vs. The Abundance Mindset

The Fearful Leader (Scarcity):
Daddy Adeboye highlights the pastor who refuses to encourage the baptism of the Holy Spirit because he fears his congregation will “outrun” him. This mindset views spiritual power as a limited resource—if others have it, there is less for the leader. It leads to control, stagnation, and a burdened, stressed leader who tries to do everything alone.

The Secure Leader (Abundance):
Moses embodies the abundance mindset. He declares, “Would God that all the LORD’s people were prophets!” He understood that God’s Spirit is limitless. Daddy Adeboye’s personal prayer exemplifies this: he asks God to double his own anointing and give it to the pastors under him, knowing it will make his job easier and advance God’s kingdom.

2. The Practical Benefits of Empowering Others

Lightening the Leader’s Load:
Moses was stressed because he carried the burden alone. God’s solution was to distribute the Spirit and the responsibility. Daddy Adeboye’s vision of an usher raising the dead without a pastor’s intervention is a powerful picture of a healthy, empowered church where miracles are not bottlenecked by one person’s availability.

Fueling Genuine Revival and Growth:
A church where every member is “on fire” and empowered is a church poised for explosive growth and revival. The Great Commission is fulfilled not when the pastor does all the work, but when every believer is equipped and released to minister (Ephesians 4:11-12).

3. The Leader’s Role: Train, Release, and Guide

From Gatekeeper to Gardener:
A leader who empowers shifts from being a gatekeeper of God’s power to a gardener who cultivates it in others. This involves intentional training, providing opportunities for service, and creating a safe environment for people to step out in faith and use their gifts.

Managing the “Restlessness” of the Empowered:
Daddy Adeboye wisely acknowledges that empowered believers may become “restless” sitting under a single preacher. The solution is not to suppress them, but to “train them and put them in new territories.” This means planting new churches, starting new ministries, and commissioning them to new frontiers, thus expanding the kingdom.

How to Be a Leader Who Empowers

1. Pray for Your Team’s Increase:
Follow Daddy Adeboye’s example. Make it a regular, sincere prayer that those you lead would receive a greater measure of God’s power, wisdom, and effectiveness than you have.

2. Delegate Authority, Not Just Tasks:
Give people real responsibility and the authority to make decisions. Trust the Holy Spirit in them. Allow them to own their ministry areas.

3. Create a Culture that Celebrates Others’ Success:
Publicly celebrate when someone under your leadership experiences a breakthrough or succeeds in ministry. This reinforces that you are on the same team and that their success is your success.

Warning: The Trap of Insecurity and Control
A leadership style that hoards power and position is not only unbiblical but also unsustainable. It leads to leader burnout, member frustration, and a stunted church. It directly contradicts the heart of God, who “gives the Spirit without limit” (John 3:34 NIV).

Conclusion: The Joy of Seeing Your Spiritual Children Fly

Pray this:
“Father, deliver me from every trace of a scarcity mindset and the fear of being outshone. Give me the secure and generous heart of Moses. I pray for a double portion of Your anointing on those I lead. Train my hands to empower, train my heart to release, and give me the wisdom to guide them as they fly for Your glory, in Jesus’ name.”

Action Steps:

  • Identify Potential: Identify 2-3 people in your sphere of influence who show spiritual potential. Begin to intentionally mentor and empower them.
  • Release a Ministry: Is there a ministry you currently lead that you can fully hand over to a capable person? Take the step to release it with your blessing.
  • Study Apostolic Succession: Read how Paul empowered and released Timothy, Titus, and others. Note his joy in their successes (2 Timothy 1:3-7).

Remember: Your legacy as a leader is not measured by how much you accomplished alone, but by how many leaders you empowered to accomplish even more. The true sign of your strength is the strength of those you raise up.
