4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

RCCG OPEN HEAVENS 3 APRIL 2026 TODAY MESSAGE
In today’s memory verse, Jesus invited us to lay our burdens on Him. A burden, in this context, refers to a difficult situation that a person must deal with.
Often, burdens attach themselves to people against their will, and they cannot remove them on their own. In 1 Kings 17:10-12, the widow of Zarephath had little food left because Elijah had prophesied that there would be no rain or dew until he decreed otherwise (1 Kings 17:1). God pronounced the judgment through the prophet because of the king’s idolatry; therefore, the widow was suffering, not because she committed any offence, but because of the sins of the head of her nation, and there was nothing she could do to get rid of the situation.
In 2 Kings 5:1, the Bible tells us that Naaman was rich and famous; however, he was a leper. Leprosy was incurable in those days, and if money or fame could have solved his problem, he would not be in the situation he was in. If leprosy were something he could cut away with a sword, he would have destroyed it because he was a military general.
However, he couldn’t do anything about it despite his wealth and influence. Beloved, have you been carrying a burden for a long time? Do you have problems that you cannot do anything about? If your answer is yes, I rejoice with you today because there is someone called the Burden Bearer; His name is Jesus Christ. I join my faith with yours that as you cry to Him for help today, He will answer you.
Sin is a heavy burden that crushes those under it. When the burden of sin is upon a fellow, the fellow will remain under the devil’s heavy yoke until he or she meets a stronger person who can remove the yoke. Mark 3:27 says that no one can enter a strong man’s house and steal from him without first tying him up.
Jesus is the only One who can deliver those who are weighed down by the burden of sin (Matthew 1:21, Acts 4:12). Are you burdened by sin? Jesus is calling you today. He wants to deliver you and give you rest from the burden of sin if you surrender your life to Him. If you have not yet given your life to Christ, acknowledge Him as Lord and Saviour over your life. Once you do this, He will bear your burden and give you a new life in Him.
ACTION POINT:
Jesus is waiting for you to cast all your burdens on Him, and Hw will give you rest.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL 3 APRIL 2026 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Matthew 11:28
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
This is one of the most loving invitations in all of Scripture. Jesus doesn’t scold the weary or shame the burdened—He simply opens His arms and says, “Come.”
BIBLE READING: Isaiah 53:4-5
This passage is a beautiful prophecy about the suffering Messiah. It tells us that Jesus Himself took our infirmities and bore our sorrows. He was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement that brought us peace was laid upon Him, and by His stripes, we are healed. This scripture reveals that Jesus didn’t just come to teach us—He came to carry what we could not carry and to pay for what we could not afford.
The Burden Bearer Has Arrived
In today’s comforting devotional, Pastor E.A. Adeboye directs our attention to the most important invitation ever given: Jesus calling the weary to come to Him. The message is simple but profound—there are some burdens you were never designed to carry, and the One who can carry them is waiting for you.
Burdens You Didn’t Choose
The devotional explains that a burden is not just any problem. It is a difficult situation that attaches itself to you against your will—something you cannot remove by your own effort. Daddy Adeboye gives two powerful examples from the Bible to illustrate this:
The Widow of Zarephath (1 Kings 17): This woman was suffering because of a famine in the land. But here’s the important detail: the famine came because of the king’s idolatry, not because of anything she did wrong. She was an innocent victim of national sin. There was nothing she could do to make it rain. She couldn’t farm, she couldn’t trade, she couldn’t fix the economy. She was simply stuck with a burden she didn’t create and couldn’t remove.
Naaman the Syrian (2 Kings 5): Here was a man who had everything—wealth, fame, position, and military success. He was a general, a hero, a man of power. But under all his achievements, he carried leprosy. And leprosy didn’t care about his money or his sword. He couldn’t buy his way out or fight his way out. His burden was incurable by human means.
These two stories show us something important: burdens don’t discriminate. They fall on the innocent and the powerful alike. And human solutions—whether hard work, money, or influence—are useless against them.
The Only One Who Can Help
If you have been carrying a burden for a long time—sickness, financial pressure, family trouble, depression, or anything else that won’t go away—today’s message is for you. There is Someone called the Burden Bearer. His name is Jesus Christ.
The devotional reminds us of a spiritual principle from Mark 3:27: you cannot rob a strong man’s house without first tying him up. This means that if the devil is holding you captive with a burden, you need someone stronger than the devil to set you free. That someone is Jesus. He is the only One strong enough to enter the enemy’s house, tie him up, and take back what belongs to you.
The Heaviest Burden of All: Sin
Beyond physical and financial burdens, there is one burden that is heavier than all others: the burden of sin. Sin weighs down the soul. It separates us from God. It keeps us under the devil’s yoke. And just like leprosy or famine, we cannot remove it by ourselves. No amount of good works, church attendance, or self-effort can lift the weight of sin.
But here is the good news: Jesus came specifically to deal with this burden. Matthew 1:21 says He will save His people from their sins. Acts 4:12 says there is no other name by which we can be saved. He is the only One who can untie the ropes that bind us.
What You Must Do Today
The invitation is open. Jesus is not hiding from you—He is calling you. But you must respond. Here is what that looks like:
- Acknowledge the Burden: Stop pretending you can handle it on your own. Admit that you are carrying something too heavy for you.
- Come to Jesus: Not to religion, not to a church program, not to your own efforts—but to Jesus Himself. He is the Burden Bearer.
- Surrender Your Life: If the burden of sin is on you, the only way to be free is to give your life to Christ. Acknowledge Him as Lord and Saviour. Confess your sins and turn from them.
- Receive His Rest: Once you come to Him, He doesn’t just lighten the load—He gives you rest. Complete rest. The kind of peace that comes from knowing the strongest One is now carrying what you could not.
Conclusion: Your Help Has Arrived
You may have tried everything. You may have wept, struggled, fought, and failed. But today, the Burden Bearer is standing before you with open arms. He knows your situation. He saw the widow of Zarephath, and He saw Naaman. He sees you too.
Don’t carry that weight another day. Don’t let pride or shame keep you from coming. He is stronger than your problem, mightier than your enemy, and kinder than you can imagine. Come to Him today.
Pray this:
“Lord Jesus, I am tired of carrying this burden alone. I have tried everything, but nothing has worked. Today, I come to You just as I am. I surrender my life to You. Forgive my sins and lift this heavy load from my shoulders. I receive Your rest. Thank You for being my Burden Bearer. In Your mighty name, Amen.”
Action Steps:
- Write down your burden: Put it on paper. Then physically hand it to God in prayer, declaring that you are giving it to the Burden Bearer.
- If you have never given your life to Christ, find a Bible-believing church this week and share your decision with a pastor. Take the step of baptism as a public declaration of your new life.
- Memorise Matthew 11:28. When the weight tries to come back, speak this verse out loud and remind the enemy that you have given your burden to Jesus.
