OPEN HEAVEN 3 OCTOBER 2025 TODAY DEVOTIONAL
TOPIC: TWO KINDS OF WONDERS
MEMORISE:
To him who alone doeth great wonders: for his mercy endureth for ever.
Psalms 136:4
READ: Exodus 12:21-30:
21 Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover.
22 And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning.
23 For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.
24 And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever.
25 And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which the LORD will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye shall keep this service.
26 And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service?
27 That ye shall say, It isthe sacrifice of the LORD’s passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.
28 And the children of Israel went away, and did as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.
29And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORDsmote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle.
30 And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead.
RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 3 OCTOBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE
There are two kinds of wonders – the good and the bad. In 2 Kings 5:1-27, there was a man called Naaman, who was the captain of the host of the king of Syria. He was a leper, and Elisha asked him to go and wash in River Jordan so he could be healed. When he did, his skin became like that of a newborn baby – this is an example of a good wonder.
After this, Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, ran after Naaman and fraudulently collected the gifts Elisha rejected. When Elisha discovered this, he cursed Gehazi saying, “I command that the leprosy of Naaman will cleave to you.” Immediately, Gehazi was covered with leprosy and became as white as snow – now, this is an example of a bad wonder.
When God manifests Himself, He performs good wonders in the lives of His children. He is gentle to His children, but He is also a consuming fire to those who refuse His Lordship. In today’s Bible reading, the children of Israel enjoyed the good wonder of preservation and escape from the angel of death.
However, at the same time, the Egyptians experienced God’s judgement. At the Red Sea, while the Israelites saw the mighty wonder of God as the sea parted for them to walk through it, the Egyptians were drowned by that same sea (Exodus 14:21-28).
God is a God of wonders, but the type of wonders a fellow will experience from Him will depend on whether he or she is for Him or against Him.
Beloved, are you on the Lord’s side (Exodus 32:26) or in the devil’s camp? It is not only unbelievers who are not on the Lord’s side; carnal Christians are also not on His side. Paul said in Romans 8:7 that the carnal mind is enmity against God because it is not subject to God’s law and can never be.
A carnal Christian wants to do things his or her way but not in God’s way. Such Christians are moved by what they see and not by God’s word. Anyone who lives like them will not enjoy God’s good wonder.
If you are not yet born again and you want God to make your life an example of a good wonder to others, come to His side today and surrender all to Jesus. If you are already God’s child, refuse to be a carnal Christian and totally surrender your mind to be constantly renewed by His word.
REFLECTION
Check your life; are you preparing to experience God’s good or bad wonder?
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
Matthew 5-6
HYMN 10: IN CHRIST ALONE
OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 3 OCTOBER 2025 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Psalm 136:4
“To him who alone doeth great wonders: for his mercy endureth for ever.”
This verse attributes all wonders to God alone, highlighting that His miraculous power is inseparable from His eternal mercy. The nature of the wonder one experiences is determined by their relationship with that mercy.
BIBLE READING: Exodus 12:21-30
This passage provides the ultimate contrast of divine wonders:
v. 27-28: The good wonder for Israel: The Passover—God’s judgment passes over those sheltered by the blood.
v. 29-30: The bad wonder for Egypt: The same night brings a devastating plague of death to every firstborn, a direct act of God’s judgment.
The Two Realms of Divine Wonders
Pastor E.A. Adeboye presents a crucial theological truth: God’s power is absolute and manifests in two distinct ways. The same God who performs wonders of mercy for His children executes wonders of judgment against rebellion. Your position in Christ determines your portion from Christ.
The Nature of God’s Wonders
- Good Wonders (Manifestations of Mercy):
These are miracles that bring healing, deliverance, provision, and salvation. They are gentle and restorative for those in covenant with God.- Naaman’s Healing (2 Kings 5:14): An act of God’s grace that restored a man’s health and led him to faith.
- The Passover (Exodus 12:13): A protective miracle where God’s judgment passed over those covered by the blood, a direct result of His mercy.
- Bad Wonders (Manifestations of Judgment):
These are displays of God’s holy power that execute justice, punish sin, and expose rebellion. They reveal God as a consuming fire.- Gehazi’s Leprosy (2 Kings 5:27): A judicial miracle that served as swift punishment for greed, deceit, and dishonoring God’s name.
- The Death of the Firstborn (Exodus 12:29): A wonders of judgment that broke the power of a tyrannical Pharaoh and demonstrated God’s supreme authority.
The Determining Factor: Your Spiritual Position
The same God who spared Israel also struck Egypt. The difference was not in God’s nature but in the application of the blood.
- On the Lord’s Side: This means to be in a covenant relationship with God through the blood of Jesus (1 Corinthians 5:7). It entails:
- Salvation: Being born again and under the covering of Christ’s sacrifice.
- Submission: A heart that is subject to God’s law and authority (Romans 8:7). It is the opposite of a carnal mind.
- Surrender: Doing things God’s way, not our own. Naaman had to surrender his pride to dip in the Jordan; Israel had to apply the blood.
- In the Devil’s Camp: This includes not only unbelievers but also carnal Christians. Carnality is characterized by:
- A Self-Centered Mind: Living according to the flesh, moved by sight and not by faith in God’s Word (2 Corinthians 5:7).
- An Unsubmissive Will: Refusing God’s way for one’s own, as Gehazi did when he pursued personal gain against the prophet’s clear stance.
- A Secular Worldview: Treating the sacred with contempt and using God’s ministry for selfish ends.
How to Ensure a Life of Good Wonders
For the Unbeliever:
Come to the Lord’s side today. Repent of your sins and surrender your life to Jesus Christ. Let His blood mark you for salvation, so God’s judgments pass over you and you begin to experience His miraculous favor.
For the Believer:
Examine yourself. Reject carnality. A carnal Christian cannot please God (Romans 8:8) and risks experiencing the bad wonders of divine discipline (Hebrews 12:6). Totally surrender your mind to be renewed by God’s Word daily (Romans 12:2).
Conclusion: Choose Your Side, Choose Your Wonder
Pray this:
“Lord Jesus, I choose to be on Your side today. I renounce every work of the flesh and the carnality that wars against my soul. I surrender my will to Yours. Let the blood of Jesus mark me for Your mercy. Make my life a testament of Your good wonders, for Your glory alone. Amen.”
Action Steps:
- Self-Examination: Honestly ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any area of carnality, greed, or rebellion in your life (like Gehazi).
- Apply the Blood: Daily plead the blood of Jesus over your life and family for protection and mercy.
- Renew Your Mind: Commit to a daily intake of God’s Word to transform your thinking from carnality to spirituality.
- Preach the Divide: Share this message that God is both Savior and Judge, so that others may choose the side of good wonders.
Remember: God’s power will be manifested in your life. The only question is whether it will be a wonder of blessing or a wonder of judgment. Your position in Christ determines your portion from Christ.
“To him who alone doeth great wonders: for his mercy endureth for ever.” (Psalm 136:4). Stay in the place where you experience His enduring mercy.
