TOPIC: DEALING WITH DEMONIC POSSESSION

MEMORISE:
When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
Matthew 8:16

READ: Mark 5:2-20
2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.
9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.
14 And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.
15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.

16 And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.
17 And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.
18 And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.
19 Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.
20 And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.

RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 4 FEBRUARY 2026 MESSAGE TODAY

It is a very terrible thing to be possessed by a demon. When demons take possession of a person, everything in his or her life is affected negatively.

Demon-possessed people are usually destructive, even to the point of self-destruction, as we see in today’s Bible reading. However, no matter how terrible the state of a demon-possessed person is, he or she can be delivered through prayers and by the power in the word of God.

All Jesus said were just a few words, and the madman of Gadara was delivered from the legion of demons that had possessed him. There is indeed nothing too difficult for the Lord to handle (Jeremiah 32:27).

The devil does not respect the social, educational, or financial status of his victims, and he also determines, as he pleases, the number of demons that will possess them. For example, the madman in today’s Bible reading was possessed by thousands of demons, Mary Magdalene had seven demons (Luke 8:2), and the man in Mark 1:21-23 had only one demon. No matter the level of attack the devil has planned against you and your loved ones, I decree that he has failed, in Jesus’ name.

I recall a time in the 80s when people who were possessed with the spirit of madness were often brought to the Redemption Camp (now Redemption City). We would keep them in a small house where we would pray for them until they were delivered. At one time, one of them, whom God had already begun to restore after a few days with us, ran out, screaming, “Help me! These people have brought a madman to live with me.” Although this man had not been totally restored, he cried out in fear when he encountered another possessed person who had just been brought into the house.

Eventually, both men became free of the devil’s hold. No matter the level of demonic possession a person experiences, the Almighty God can set the person free because nothing is impossible for Him to do (Luke 1:37).

There are many instances in the Bible where Jesus set a person free from the devil’s affliction by just speaking a word. When He sends His word, healing and deliverance follow. Psalm 107:20 says, “He sent
his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.”

I pray that God will send His word into any area of your life that the devil might be operating in currently, and you will receive your total deliverance today, in Jesus name.

KEY POINT:

No matter the level of demonic possession a fellow might be experiencing, he or she can be delivered through prayers and the power in God’s word.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR

Leviticus 22-23

HYMN 10: IN CHRIST ALONE

Open Heavens 4 February 2026 Commentary

MEMORISE: Matthew 8:16
“When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick.”
This verse establishes the absolute authority of Jesus Christ over the demonic realm. It reveals the method of His deliverance—His word—and its scope—all that were sick. No case was too complex, no legion too numerous. His spoken word is the divine instrument of liberation.

BIBLE READING: Mark 5:2-20
This passage is the ultimate case study of extreme demonic possession and total deliverance. The Gerasene demoniac’s condition shows possession’s full effects: isolation from society (tombs), supernatural strength (broken chains), self-destruction (cutting himself), and a distorted identity (“My name is Legion”). Yet, one command from Jesus results in complete restoration, sanity, and a commissioned evangelist.

The Reality and Ravages of Demonic Possession

Daddy Adeboye does not downplay the severity: it is a “very terrible thing.” Possession is not mere influence; it is occupation, where demonic entities take up residence, seizing control of a person’s mind, will, emotions, and body, leading to systemic negative effects.

The Characteristics of Demonic Possession

1. Total Life Domination

Manifestation: Everything is affected negatively.
No area of life remains untouched—mental health, relationships, physical well-being, and destiny are all corrupted and driven toward destruction.

2. The Agenda of Destruction

Manifestation: Violence Toward Self and Others.
As seen with the Gadarene demoniac, the core mission of demons is to “steal, kill, and destroy” (John 10:10). This includes self-harm, the destruction of one’s future, and causing harm to others. The victim becomes an instrument of chaos.

3. The Devil’s Demonic Calculus

Manifestation: Variable Intensity, Universal Vulnerability.
The enemy is an equal-opportunity destroyer. He does not respect status, and he tailors the attack—assigning one demon (Mark 1) or a legion (Mark 5) as he pleases. This means anyone, at any level, can be a target, but it also means no case is beyond Christ’s power.

The Supreme Power for Deliverance

The core message is the supremacy of God’s power over any demonic stronghold.

1. The Power is in The Word

Jesus cast out spirits “with his word” (Matthew 8:16). The creative, life-giving Word of God (John 1:1-3) is also the destructive force against demonic powers. A single command from Christ dismantled a legion. Daddy Adeboye connects this to Psalm 107:20—God’s sent word is healing and deliverance.

2. The Scope of His Power is Total

“Nothing is too difficult for the Lord” (Jeremiah 32:27). “Nothing is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37). The testimonies from the Redemption Camp illustrate this: from the initial cry of a partially restored man to the eventual freedom of both, God’s power works comprehensively, even in the most complex, layered cases.

3. The Process: Prayer and The Word

Deliverance comes “through prayers and by the power in the word of God.” Prayer invites God’s intervention and asserts spiritual authority; the spoken Word of God is the weapon that executes the victory.

The Pathway to Personal Deliverance

1. Confront the Reality

Acknowledge the area of life under hostile occupation, whether it manifests as addictive behaviors, uncontrollable anger, chronic sickness linked to a spirit of infirmity, or overwhelming fear. The demoniac’s restoration began when Jesus confronted the reality head-on.

2. Bring the Case to Jesus

Just as the people brought the possessed to Him, you must bring yourself or your loved one to Christ in prayer. The father in Mark 9 brought his son, saying, “If you can do anything…” Jesus’ response remains: “All things are possible for one who believes” (Mark 9:23).

3. Decree the Word of Authority

Use the name of Jesus and His written Word as your spoken command. You are not begging demons to leave; you are enforcing the victory of Calvary, just as Jesus did with His word.

4. Walk in Restored Identity

True deliverance, as seen in Mark 5:15, results in a person being “clothed and in his right mind.” After deliverance, you must embrace your new identity in Christ—no longer a victim, but a sent one (like the Gadarene, who became a preacher).

Conclusion: Your Day of Total Deliverance

The prayer point in the devotional is prophetic: for God to send His word into the specific area of demonic operation in your life. This is not a general hope, but a targeted missile of divine power.

Pray this:
“Almighty God, I bring every area of my life under the authority of Jesus Christ. I stand on the power of Your Word. By the blood of Jesus, I break every legal right of the enemy. I speak to every demonic spirit operating in my life—spirit of [name the manifestation: madness, addiction, destruction, etc.]—I command you to come out now in the name of Jesus! I decree that the sending power of Psalm 107:20 is released over me. Heal me and deliver me from all my destructions. I receive my total deliverance and declare that I am clothed, sane, and seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, from this day forward!”

Action Steps:

  1. Diagnose: Identify the primary area of destructive, uncontrollable behavior in your life or a loved one’s.
  2. Scripture Arsenal: Write out Matthew 8:16, Psalm 107:20, and Luke 1:37 on a card. Declare them aloud daily as decrees of faith.
  3. Prayer of Command: For 7 days, specifically command the evil spirit to leave in Jesus’ name, based on the authority of Mark 5:8 and Matthew 8:16.
  4. Seek Covenant Community: As in the Redemption Camp testimony, prolonged bondage often requires the support and prayer of a faith community. Do not isolate; seek wise, spiritual counsel and support.

Remember: The same Word that calmed the storm and raised the dead is sent for your deliverance today. No legion is too strong, no possession too deep. When God sends His Word, your chains are broken, and your destruction is halted. Your total deliverance is now.
