OPEN HEAVENS 6 MARCH 2026 DEVOTIONAL
TOPIC: WHEN THERE IS LIGHT II
MEMORISE:
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, l am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
John 8:12
READ: Mark 5:2-20
2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.
9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.
14 And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.
15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
16 And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.
17 And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.
18 And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.
19 Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.
20 And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.
RCCG OPEN HEAVENS 6 MARCH 2026 MESSAGE TODAY
Light is powerful; it impacts everything it touches. For example, when the sun shines on the Earth, everything under its rays experiences its heat.
Likewise, when the light of God shines over you, it will touch every aspect of your life, and your story will change for good.
The man Jesus healed in John 9:1-27 must have been a subject of mockery before his healing, but when he encountered the Light, he became a celebrity, as many people wanted to hear his story. If you have not encountered Jesus and given your life to Him, I implore you to do so today, so that He can also change your story for the better.
Sometimes, however, people who have surrendered their lives to Jesus may still face certain negative circumstances, and these may make them a subject of mockery. This is because many people tend to think that something must be wrong with a believer who is facing challenges. Mockers may ask such believers, “You have been serving God all this while, but why is your life like this?”
Some believers might even find themselves in situations where people describe them by the problems they are going through. For example, even though Jesus opened the eyes of Bartimaeus over 2,000 years ago (Mark 10:46-52), many people still call him ‘Blind Bartimaeus’ because they associate him with his problem.
In the name above every other name, whatever might be causing people to ask, “Where is your God?” will cease to exist in your life, and your story will change for the better.
In today’s Bible reading, just one word from the Light transformed the life of the man from Gadara. His story changed from that of a person who was possessed by a legion of demons into that of a man whom Jesus would send to tell people about his miraculous encounter with the Light.
When the Light comes, people’s stories change for the better; the blind begin to see, the sick get healed, the lame begin to walk, the barren become fruitful, and the poor begin to experience abundance.
Beloved, I am a living testimony that the Light of the world never leaves people the way He meets them. He transforms their lives for the better and gives them everlasting testimonies. I pray that you will have an encounter with Jesus, the Light of the world, and He will give you a new story to tell, in Jesus’ name.
PRAYER POINT
Lord, please visit me with Your light and change my story for the better, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL 6 MARCH 2025 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: John 8:12
“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
This is a profound declaration of identity and promise. Jesus does not merely have light or givelight; He is the Light. This Light is the source of all spiritual illumination, truth, and life. The promise is that following Him ensures we are transferred from the kingdom of darkness into a state of perpetual illumination—possessing the “light of life” itself, which transforms our very existence.
BIBLE READING: Mark 5:2-20
This passage is the ultimate case study of a life completely rewritten by the Light:
v. 2-5: The “Before” picture: A man defined by isolation (tombs), self-destruction (cutting himself), supernatural bondage (unclean spirit), and social hopelessness (no one could restrain him).
v. 6-8: The Encounter: Even in his distorted state, he runs to Jesus and worships. The Light commands the darkness to leave.
v. 15: The “After” picture: The man is seen “sitting, clothed, and in his right mind.” This is the total transformation: rest, dignity, and sanity.
v. 19-20: The New Assignment: Jesus gives him a new story and purpose—”Go home and tell what the Lord has done.” He becomes an evangelist in Decapolis.
When The Light Rewrites Your Story
Pastor E.A. Adeboye teaches that an encounter with Jesus Christ, the Light of the World, is not a minor adjustment but a total narrative overhaul. He changes our identity from what we were(defined by our problems) to what He has made us (defined by His testimony).
1. The Comprehensive Impact of The Light
Light Exposes and Transforms:
- Just as sunlight touches and changes everything it reaches (melting ice, warming soil, enabling growth), the Light of Christ penetrates every darkened area of a life—spiritual, emotional, physical, and circumstantial.
From Mockery to Testimony:
- The man born blind (John 9) was a subject of theological debate and pity. After his encounter, he became a bold, unshakeable witness, even before hostile religious authorities. His problem became his platform.
2. The Challenge of “Believers in the Storm”
The Mockery of Delay:
- Pastor Adeboye acknowledges a real tension: believers can face prolonged negative circumstances that invite mockery (“Where is your God?”). This happens because the world (and sometimes the church) mistakenly equates godliness with the absence of problems.
The Label of the Problem:
- “Blind Bartimaeus” is a biblical example of how a past condition can stick as a label, even after a miracle. The world often remembers us by our past struggle, but God calls us by our new identity in Christ (e.g., “a chosen generation, a royal priesthood”).
3. The Gadarene Demoniac: A Blueprint for Total Change
The Power of God’s Word:
- The transformation of the Gadarene was initiated by a single command from the Light: “Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit!” (Mark 5:8). The creative power of God’s Word can shatter decades of bondage in a moment.
The Elements of a Changed Story:
- Location Changed: From the tombs (place of death) to his home (place of relationship).
- Condition Changed: From demon-possessed and crazed to “in his right mind.”
- Appearance Changed: From naked and wild to clothed and dignified.
- Purpose Changed: From a terror to the community to a missionary to the community.
4. Pastor Adeboye’s Personal Testimony
A Living Witness:
- By stating “I am a living testimony,” Daddy G.O. anchors this teaching not just in biblical stories but in observable, modern reality. His own life and global ministry stand as evidence that Christ the Light truly transforms and gives “everlasting testimonies.”
How to Move from Label to Testimony
Pursue a Definitive Encounter:
- Like the Gadarene running to Jesus, consciously move toward Christ in worship and desperate faith, even from your place of brokenness. Your transformation begins at the point of encounter.
Reject the Old Label:
- Begin to verbally reject the identity tied to your past or your problem. If the enemy says “You are the sick one,” declare “I am the healed of the Lord.” If the world says “Poor John,” declare “I am the blessed of the Lord.”
- Keep declaring the word of God applicable to your situation until it becomes a reality in your life. Mark 11:23-24
Embrace Your New Assignment:
- Understand that your deliverance is not just for your comfort but for your commission. Your new story is meant to be told. Ask God, “What do You want me to declare from this testimony?”
Stand Through the Mocking Season:
- In the period between your prayer and your full manifestation, shut your ears to mockery. Your story is not finished. The same Light that allows the challenge for a season is orchestrating a testimony that will silence every critic.
Warning: The Danger of Accepting the World’s Narrative
Owning the Problematic Identity:
- If you keep introducing yourself by your struggle (“Hi, I’m the one struggling with…”), you are agreeing with the label. Start introducing yourself by your faith and God’s promise.
Misinterpreting the Process:
- The time between encounter and full manifestation is a period of processing, not proof of God’s absence. The man born blind had to walk to Siloam; the Gadarene had to sit and be seen. Your “sitting and clothed” season is part of the new story.
Conclusion: Your New Story Awaits
Pray this:
“Jesus, Light of the World, I run to You today. I am tired of being defined by my past, my problems, and the mockery of others. I need a story-changing encounter with You. Shine Your light into every area of my life labeled by darkness, failure, sickness, or shame. Right now, I receive Your transformative power. I break every agreement with the old labels. From this day forward, I am not [say your old label]; I am a new creation, a living testimony of Your grace. Give me my new story and the boldness to tell it for Your glory. In Your mighty name, Amen.”
Action Steps:
- Write the “Before & After”: On one side of a page, write your current “Gadarene” story (how the world defines you). On the other side, write your “Christ-defined” story based on God’s promises (e.g., “I am seated, clothed, and in my right mind in Christ”).
- Proclaim Your New Name: For the next 30 days, begin your morning prayer by stating, “Good morning. I am [Your Name], a living testimony of the Light of the World. My story has been changed for good.”
- Share Your Encounter: Even if your testimony is still unfolding, begin to share with one person this week: “I have asked Jesus to rewrite my story, and I believe He is doing it.”
Remember: The Light of the World never meets a person and leaves them the same. Your encounter with Him is the end of your old biography and the beginning of your new, glorious testimony.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Your new story has begun.
