OPEN HEAVEN 6 NOVEMBER 2025 TODAY DEVOTIONAL
TOPIC: KNOWING THE HOLY SPIRIT
MEMORISE:
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Luke 1:35
READ: Luke 1:34-37:
34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 6 NOVEMBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE
When I first got born again, I noticed that each time an altar call was made in church, the pastor would say, “Those who want salvation should come forward. Those who want sanctification and baptism in the Holy Spirit should ask God for it.” At that time, I had never heard a teaching on the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and I wondered what the pastor meant.
After some time, I became thirsty for the Holy Spirit; I wanted to really know Him, and I began to read books on the baptism of the Holy Spirit. In time, I became baptised in the Holy Spirit and grew really intimate with Him.
If you become a friend of the Holy Spirit, there is no limit to what God can do through you.
While I was reading about the baptism of the Holy Spirit, today’s Bible reading really caught my attention. The angel told Mary that she would have a son, and Mary asked a very important question, “How can I conceive when I am a virgin?” The angel then said, “The Holy Ghost will come upon you,” and he ended his statement with, “For with God, nothing shall be impossible.” Seeing this, I realised that if the Holy Ghost comes upon me and overshadows me, then nothing would be impossible for me.
Beloved, to live a life of holiness even when you are surrounded by so many temptations, you need the Holy Ghost. You also need the Holy Ghost for impossibilities to become possible in your life. When I read about how the Holy Spirit came upon Mary, I knew that I had to become intimate with the Holy Ghost in order to do exploits for God.
Therefore, I got baptised in the Holy Ghost and began to speak His language. Then, He began to do seemingly impossible things for the spread of the gospel and the expansion of God’s Kingdom through me.
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8
When you make the Holy Ghost your friend, you will become empowered to do exploits and take the gospel to the ends of the earth. Make up your mind to become more and more intimate with Him every day.
KEY POINT
When you are intimate with the Holy Spirit, nothing will be impossible to you.

HYMN 27: WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS
OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 6 NOVEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Luke 1:35 (KJV)
“And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.”
This verse unveils the direct link between the Holy Spirit’s power and the accomplishment of the humanly impossible. The word “overshadow” implies a comprehensive enveloping, where God’s power and presence completely take over a situation, making the supernatural a tangible reality.
BIBLE READING: Luke 1:34-37
This passage captures the divine announcement of the virgin birth, highlighting the role of the Holy Spirit:
- v. 34: Mary’s question reveals a recognition of a natural impossibility—conception without a man.
- v. 35: The angel’s answer provides the divine solution—the Holy Spirit’s power and presence are the agents of the miracle.
- v. 36-37: The confirmation through Elizabeth’s pregnancy and the foundational declaration: “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” The Holy Spirit is the “how” behind this truth.
The Overshadowing Power: From Impossibility to Exploit
Pastor E.A. Adeboye shares his personal journey into the baptism of the Holy Spirit, moving from curiosity to a life-transforming encounter. He masterfully uses the incarnation of Christ as the ultimate template to explain what the Holy Spirit’s power accomplishes in a believer: it enables us to bring forth the supernatural and make the impossible possible for God’s glory.
1. The Journey to Intimacy and Power
From Ignorance to Thirst:
Daddy Adeboye’s testimony is a common and encouraging one. He began from a place of not understanding the ministry of the Holy Spirit. However, a passive curiosity matured into an active, spiritual thirst. This thirst is the first sign of the Holy Spirit Himself drawing a believer into a deeper relationship (John 7:37-39).
The Role of Pursuit:
Intimacy with the Holy Spirit is not automatically bestowed; it is pursued. His personal pursuit through reading and study demonstrates that God honors a hungry heart. We move from being casual observers to active participants in the Spirit-filled life by seeking Him diligently.
2. The Mary Principle: The Pattern for the Impossible
The Holy Spirit as the Divine Agent:
The encounter with Mary is the supreme biblical example of the Holy Spirit’s role in accomplishing the impossible. The virgin birth was not a passive event for Mary; it was an active overshadowingby the Holy Spirit. This same power is available to every believer for the God-ordained “impossibilities” in their lives.
The Link Between “Upon” and “Impossible”:
Daddy Adeboye makes a critical exegetical point: the angel connects the Holy Spirit coming uponMary directly to the statement that nothing is impossible with God. This means the baptism or infilling of the Holy Spirit is the divine enablement that makes the impossible life accessible to us. It is the “how” behind God’s “what.”
3. The Twofold Purpose of the Holy Spirit’s Power
For a Life of Holiness:
The devotional corrects a common error that limits the Holy Spirit’s power to spectacular gifts. The first miracle He performed was the sinless conception of Christ. Likewise, His power in us is first and foremost for holiness—enabling us to live above the temptations of the flesh in a corrupt world (Romans 8:13).
For a Life of Exploits:
The second purpose is divine empowerment for service. As in Acts 1:8, the power is given for effective witness. This includes boldness, miracles, and the divine ability to spread the gospel beyond our natural capabilities. It turns ordinary believers into effective agents of Kingdom expansion.
How to Pursue and Walk in the Overshadowing Power
1. Cultivate a Holy Dissatisfaction:
Do not be content with a salvation that lacks power. Ask God to create in you a thirst for the full package—not just to be in Christ, but for Christ to be manifested through you by the Holy Spirit.
2. Ask, Seek, and Knock:
Jesus taught that the Father gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask (Luke 11:13). Be persistent in your request. Like Daddy Adeboye, study the Scriptures concerning the Holy Spirit to build your faith and understanding.
3. Yield to His Language and Leadership:
The initial evidence of being baptized in the Holy Spirit is often speaking in other tongues (Acts 2:4). This spiritual language is a key to building yourself up and praying perfectly (Jude 1:20, Romans 8:26-27). Furthermore, yield to His daily promptings for guidance and service.
Warning: A Powerless Christian Life is a Limited Life
Attempting to live the Christian life or fulfill the Great Commission without the baptism and ongoing infilling of the Holy Spirit is to operate in human strength. It leads to burnout, ineffectiveness in spiritual warfare, and a life that merely manages the possible instead of demonstrating the impossible.
Conclusion: Your Gateway to a Life of Exploits
Pray this:
“Father, I thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit. I am not content with a life of natural limitations. Just as You overshadowed Mary, I ask that Your Holy Spirit would come upon me in a fresh and powerful way today. Clothe me with Your power from on high to live a holy life and to be a mighty witness for You, turning impossibilities into testimonies for Your glory, in Jesus’ name.”
Action Steps:
- Express Your Thirst: If you have not been baptized in the Holy Spirit, sincerely ask the Lord for it today. If you have, ask for a fresh infilling and a deeper intimacy.
- Study the Book of Acts: Read it with a focus on the work of the Holy Spirit. Note what happened when He came upon the believers and how He directed the church.
- Step Out in Faith: Begin to speak in tongues as the Spirit gives you utterance. Use this gift daily in your prayer life to build yourself up and intercede effectively.
Remember: The same Holy Spirit who overshadowed Mary to bring forth Christ now wants to overshadow you to bring forth the life, character, and power of Christ in and through you. This is the gateway to a life of true exploits.
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me…” (Acts 1:8). This is your mandate and your enablement.
