OPEN HEAVENS 7 MARCH 2025 DEVOTIONAL
TOPIC: WHEN THERE IS LIGHT III
MEMORISE
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Matthew 5:15
READ: John 4:7-18, 25-30:
7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.
17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.
25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.
27 And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?
28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,
29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
RCCG OPEN HEAVENS 7 MARCH 2026 MESSAGE TODAY
One of my spiritual daughters, a friend and former classmate of my wife, had a big problem – cancer of the voice box. The doctors said that the only way to keep her alive was to remove her voice box, meaning that she would never talk again. They did, and from then on, she could no longer speak.
However, we kept praying for her, believing that God would heal her. One day, I had just returned from a trip when I saw a woman rolling on the floor. When she looked up, I saw that it was my wife’s friend, and she said, “It’s me, Daddy. I can talk again.”
Beloved, you cannot receive the kind of miracle in the story above and not testify. That is the kind of miracle that will make everyone around you acknowledge that only God could have made it happen. When the Light of the World visits a person, that fellow will not be able to keep his or her mouth shut.
The Samaritan woman in today’s Bible reading became an evangelist the moment she encountered the Light. She went into her city, telling everyone to come and see the Light. You cannot have the Light and hide it under a bushel (Matthew 5:15).
The Light doesn’t only come with blessings and miracles; He also comes with assignments and responsibilities. After the madman of Gadara was delivered in Mark 5:2-20, Jesus gave him an assignment to tell others about his miracle.
A fellow cannot come into the Light and continue to live a purposeless life. In the Light, you are commissioned to do God’s will. After the madman’s deliverance, he went everywhere telling people, “I was once a madman living in tombs, but I met the Light. Now, I am an evangelist.” Likewise, when the Light found Peter, he became a fisher of men. When Paul came into this glorious Light, he became a renowned missionary, taking the gospel everywhere. You cannot come into the Light and remain idle. The Light empowers people to go into the world and preach the gospel to all creatures (Mark 16:15).
Beloved, wherever you go, God wants you to shine His light. Make it your life’s mission to tell everyone you come across about the marvellous Light that has set you free. I pray for you today that the Light will visit you and give you a testimony that you won’t be able to hide. You will tell a new story and sing a new song, in Jesus’ name.
ACTION POINT
Today, tell someone about something Jesus has done for you. Shine the Light of Jesus for others to see.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL 7 MARCH 2026 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Matthew 5:15
“Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.”
This teaching of Jesus establishes a fundamental principle of the Kingdom: Light is meant for revelation, not concealment. The purpose of ignition is illumination. A believer who has received the Light of Christ is like that lit candle—designed to be placed prominently so that their transformed life and testimony can provide guidance and hope to all within their sphere of influence.
BIBLE READING: John 4:7-18, 25-30
This passage perfectly illustrates the immediate, compelling effect of encountering the Light:
v. 7-18: Jesus, the Light, exposes her life’s deepest secrets (her sinful patterns and thirst) not to condemn, but to offer living water and true worship.
v. 28-29: The Result: “The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?” Her encounter was so transformative that she abandoned her immediate errand (the waterpot), overcame social stigma, and became an instant evangelist to her entire community.
v. 30: Her testimony moved the masses: “Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.” One compelling testimony ignited a city-wide revival.
The Compelling Testimony of The Light
Pastor E.A. Adeboye uses a powerful modern testimony and key biblical figures to teach that a genuine encounter with Jesus Christ, the Light, produces two inseparable outcomes: a miraculous transformation and an irrepressible commission. You cannot have one without the other.
1. The Miracle That Demands a Testimony
The Nature of a “God-Only” Miracle:
- The testimony of the woman with the voice box is quintessential. Medicine had reached its limit (removal of the organ), creating a permanent, irreversible condition. Her restored voice was a creative miracle that defied natural law, leaving no explanation but God. Such miracles are given to be proclaimed.
Light Dispels the Fear of Shame:
- The Samaritan woman had every reason to hide—her sinful history was publicly known. Yet, the Light’s exposure liberated her from shame into witness. The Light replaces the fear of man with a passion for God’s glory.
2. The Inherent Assignment in The Light
From Beneficiary to Ambassador:
- The Light does not bless us for our private consumption. Every encounter comes with a commission:
- The Gadarene Demoniac (Mark 5:19): “Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee.”
- Peter (Matthew 4:19): “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
- Paul (Acts 9:15): “He is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles.”
- The Principle: Your testimony is your primary tool for ministry. Your unique story of encounter is the gospel message personalized. Jesus said, “You shall be my witness” Acts 1:8.
Idleness is Incompatible with Illumination:
- A “lit candle” under a bushel will eventually suffocate and go out. Similarly, a believer who hides their testimony risks quenching the Spirit’s fire. Purpose is ignited by the Light.
3. The Testimony of the Voice Box Miracle
From Silent Sufferer to Vocal Witness:
- The Yoke: Terminal cancer, surgical mutilation, permanent loss of speech.
- The Encounter: Persistent, corporate prayer rooted in faith.
- The Transformation: A creative miracle—God restoring what medicine removed. She didn’t just get a new voice box; she received a new testimony so undeniable she proclaimed it while “rolling on the floor” in overwhelming joy.
- The Proof: Her testimony is not a private comfort but a public declaration that fuels the faith of the global church.
4. The Samaritan Woman’s Testimony (John 4:29)
The Model Spontaneous Witness:
- She didn’t need a theology degree or an invitation. Her witness was simple, personal, and effective: “Come, see a man who told me all I ever did.” She pointed directly to Christ.
- Key to Effective Evangelism: She asked a compelling question that sparked curiosity: “Could this be the Christ?” Testimony invites investigation, which can lead to revelation.
How to Fulfill Your Commission as Light
Identify Your “God-Only” Miracle:
- What has God done for you that has no natural explanation? That is your core testimony. Write it down and rehearse it.
Leave Your “Waterpot”:
- Be willing to abandon your routine, your comfort, and your previous priorities (like the woman leaving her water jar) to seize opportunities to share what Christ has done.
Use Your Unique Story:
- You are not called to preach Paul’s sermon or Peter’s sermon. You are called to tell your story. Like the healed madman, say, “I was once ___, but I met the Light. Now I am ___.”
Shine in Your Immediate “House”:
- Start with your family, workplace, and community (the “all that are in the house” from Matthew 5:15). Your consistent, transformed life and readiness to speak make you a candlestick.
Pray for a Testimony You Cannot Hide:
- As Pastor Adeboye prays, ask God for such a clear, powerful work in your life that speaking of it becomes as natural as breathing.
Warning: The Danger of a Hidden Light
Disobedience Through Silence:
- Hiding your testimony is direct disobedience to Christ’s command in Matthew 5:16 and Mark 5:19. It is spiritual hoarding.
The Atrophy of Unused Faith:
- Testimonies shared multiply; testimonies hidden stagnate. Your faith grows stronger as you declare God’s works, and it inspires faith in others.
Conclusion: Your Candle on the Stand
Pray this:
“Lord Jesus, You are the Light of the World. You have called me to be a light. Forgive me for any time I have hidden Your work in my life under the bushel of fear, pride, or complacency. Today, I step into my commission. Give me a testimony so powerful that I cannot keep it to myself. Let my life be a candlestick, placed prominently for all to see. Empower me to leave my ‘waterpot’ and go tell my city, my friends, and my family about You. Use my unique story to draw others out of darkness and into Your marvelous light. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Action Steps:
- Craft Your Two-Minute Testimony: Write a brief version of your salvation story or a key miracle. Structure it: (1) My life before Christ/The problem, (2) How I encountered Christ/The turning point, (3) My life after Christ/The change.
- Purposeful Proclamation: This week, intentionally share your testimony with at least one person. It could be a family member, a colleague, or a friend.
- Live as a Candlestick: In your daily interactions, let your speech, integrity, and joy be so evidently different that people ask you for the reason (1 Peter 3:15). Be ready with your answer.
Remember: You are not a storage room for miracles; you are a broadcasting station for God’s glory. Your testimony is your ordained ministry.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16). Shine where you are placed.
