OPEN HEAVEN 7 MAY 2025 TODAY DEVOTIONAL
TOPIC: HE CAN CHANGE IT
MEMORISE
In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
Ephesians 1:11
READ: Jeremiah 18:1-6
The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,
2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 7 MAY 2025 TODAY MESSAGE
Over the past three days, I discussed how everything that happens on earth is according to God’s design and that we are actors in His grand play. Because God is the writer of the play, He can change some things in it, such as actors, scenes, sequences, and the like, to suit His grand vision.
For example, in 1 Samuel 2:30, He told Eli, “I said indeed that you and your father’s house will stand before me forever, but now, I change my mind.” That is an instance of God changing the actors that would be involved in carrying out His grand vision. God is the Writer and Director of your life, and the earlier you cooperate and surrender to Him, the better it will be for you.
I pray that you will never do anything that will cause God to change His mind concerning His good purpose for your life.
As the Director of your life, God can also change parts of your life that don’t fit His purpose anymore. In today’s Bible reading, Jeremiah was in his house when God told him to go to a potter’s house because He wanted to speak to him there. If I were Jeremiah, I would have asked, “Daddy, are we not speaking already? Let’s continue our conversation here.” Thank God Jeremiah was an obedient fellow, and as l mentioned in the just-concluded series, obedience will keep you at the centre of God’s will. He stood up immediately and went to the potter’s house, where he met the potter working on a vessel.
As Jeremiah watched, the vessel got damaged in the potter’s hand, but instead of throwing it away, the potter remoulded it into another vessel. By the time he was done, it didn’t look like the vessel had once been damaged.
And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. Jeremiah 18:4
Beloved, God can change those damaged portions of your life if you surrender everything to Him. He can remould you into another vessel fit enough to fulfil His original plan for your life. Don’t give up on the promises He has made to you or the glimpses of the glorious destiny that He has shown you because of negative circumstances or past mistakes. He can change everything and make your life a beautiful story of His grace – only put your trust in Him.
PRAYER POINT
Father, I surrender myself to You. Make me a vessel that is fit to fulfil Your good plan and pleasure, in Jesus’ name.

RCCG HYMN 6: I AM SO GLAD THAT OUR FATHER IN HEAV’N
OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 7 MAY 2025 COMMENTARY
1. God’s Sovereign Right to Modify His Plans
- Example of Eli (1 Samuel 2:30):
- God initially promised his lineage perpetual priesthood, but their disobedience triggered a divine revision.
- Principle: God’s promises are conditional on human cooperation (Deuteronomy 28:1–2; Joshua 1:8).
- Modern Application:
- Your destiny is secure in Christ, but rebellion can delay or reroute it (e.g., Saul → David).
2. The Potter’s House: A Lesson in Surrender
- Jeremiah’s Obedience (v. 2):
- He didn’t question God’s instruction to relocate; he acted immediately.
- Lesson: Prompt obedience positions us for divine revelation.
- The Marred Vessel (v. 4):
- The clay flawed in the potter’s hands symbolizes:
- Broken dreams (Joseph in prison).
- Personal failures (Peter’s denial).
- Unforeseen crises (Job’s suffering).
- Yet, the potter didn’t discard it—he remolded it.
- The clay flawed in the potter’s hands symbolizes:
3. God’s Process of Remolding
- Step 1: Brokenness
- The clay must be softened (trials, repentance) to be reshaped (Psalm 51:17).
- Step 2: Reshaping
- God doesn’t patch flaws; He starts anew (2 Corinthians 5:17).
- Step 3: Purposeful Design
- The new vessel reflects His wisdom, not human expectations (Isaiah 64:8).
4. Why Does God Permit “Marred” Seasons?
- To Remove Pride: Paul’s thorn kept him dependent (2 Corinthians 12:7–9).
- To Test Faith: Abraham’s wait for Isaac refined his trust (Hebrews 11:17–19).
- To Prepare for Greater Glory: David’s exile trained him for kingship.
5. How to Respond When God Reshapes Your Life
- Submit to His Hands (James 4:7).
- Like clay, don’t resist the Potter’s pressure.
- Trust His Timing (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
- The potter knows when to remold.
- Embrace the Process (Romans 8:28).
- Your “damage” is raw material for a greater testimony.
- Reject Discouragement (Galatians 6:9).
- The potter’s wheel may spin violently, but the end is beautiful.
Warning vs. Promise
- Warning: “Resisting God’s reshaping leads to wasted potential (like Eli’s lineage).”
- Promise: “Surrendered lives emerge flawless (Jeremiah 29:11).”
Modern-Day Applications
For the Disappointed:
- Lost a job? Failed a relationship? God is rerouting you, not rejecting you.
- Pray: “Lord, mold me into what You desire.”
For the Impatient:
- Waiting for a promise? The Potter is still working (Philippians 1:6).
- Declare: “I trust Your process, Lord.”
For the Ashamed:
- Past mistakes don’t disqualify you—they qualify you for grace (1 Timothy 1:16).
Conclusion: Your Life in the Potter’s Hands
- God’s plans are dynamic—He may alter methods, but His end goal is unchanging.
- Brokenness precedes breakthrough—surrender leads to glory.
- Your story isn’t over—the Potter is still shaping you.
Prayer Response:
“Father, I yield to Your reshaping hands. Break, mold, and use me as You please. I trust that what seems ‘marred’ now will become a masterpiece for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Final Encouragement:
“A lump of clay has no right to complain—only to be clay. Let God shape you without protest.”
Will you surrender to the Potter today?
