OPEN HEAVEN 8 SEPTEMBER 2025 TODAY DEVOTIONAL
TOPIC: VISION
MEMORISE:
Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he
Proverbs 29:18
READ: Habakkuk 2:1-3:
1 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
2 And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 8 SEPTEMBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE
Today’s memory verse says that where there is no vision, the people perish. The rich fool in Luke 12:15-21 died because he told his soul to rest and pursue nothing. A lack of vision kills; when you’re pursuing a goal, your youth is renewed with each passing day.
Sometime ago, I told some of my older friends that we are not old men because Joel 2:28 says that the old men shall dream dreams while the young ones will see visions. Since my older friends and I still have visions that we are pursuing, we are young.
Beloved, it is not enough to have a vision; you must also pursue it. Some people can talk so passionately about their vision today, but when you see them again three years from now, you will discover that they are still talking about the vision but have not taken any step to fulfil it. If you ask them why, they will give all sorts of excuses.
People who have a vision they truly believe in don’t let anything stand in their way. Obstacles tremble when a man of vision approaches them.
When God gave us the vision of the RCCG campground, we did not have the money, but that did not stop us from taking steps towards getting the land. We overcame that obstacle, and not long after that, another obstacle arose: there was no water in the camp that could support thousands of people.
That also did not deter us, and we kept forging ahead. Before long, we had more than enough water.
The reason many people haven’t seen their visions come to pass is that they are not doing anything to fulfil them. To fulfil a vision, you have to make moves first, and when you do, God will carry you towards the vision. Only a fellow who pursues his or her vision will hear it speak. When God spoke to Habakkuk in today’s Bible reading, He instructed him to write the vision so that at the appointed time, it would speak. When you start taking steps in the direction of the vision God has given you, your vision will speak, and many will hear it.
Has God shown you something? Get to work; don’t give room for excuses. God wants to give your vision a voice that can speak life to nations, but until you do something about what you have seen, your vision will remain silent.
KEY POINT
God is willing to carry you towards your vision. However, you need to make moves towards your vision.

HYMN 32: TO THE WORK! TO THE WORK! WE ARE SERVANTS OF GOD
OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 8 SEPTEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)
“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, is happy.”
This verse establishes vision as a non-negotiable element for life, purpose, and survival. The word “perish” here translates from the Hebrew “para,” which means to let go, be unbridled, to run wild, or to cast off restraint. Without a vision—a God-given goal, purpose, or revelation of the future—a person or a people drift aimlessly, waste resources, and ultimately decay. Vision provides direction, constraint, and motivation. It is the spiritual compass that guides and preserves.
BIBLE READING: Habakkuk 2:1-3 (KJV)
“1 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. 2 And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. 3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”
This passage provides God’s instruction manual for handling a vision. It involves:
- Expectant Posture (v.1): Positioning oneself to hear from God.
- Clear Documentation (v.2): Writing the vision down makes it tangible, clear, and communicable.
- Patient Perseverance (v.3): Understanding that visions have an “appointed time” for fulfillment and require faithful waiting and working.
- Inherent Power (v.3): A true God-given vision will eventually “speak”—it will manifest with undeniable evidence and impact.
Vision as the Antidote to Stagnation and Death
Daddy Adeboye powerfully interprets the “rich fool” parable (Luke 12:15-21) as a death caused by a lack of vision. The man’s error was not his wealth, but his decision to “rest, eat, drink, be merry”—to cease pursuing a greater purpose. The devotional posits that the passionate pursuit of a goal is what renews vitality and keeps one spiritually and mentally young, regardless of biological age. This is a profound spiritual principle: purpose fuels life.
The Critical Leap from Vision to Action
The core message of this devotional is the stark difference between having a vision and pursuing it. Many people are “vision-talkers” but not “vision-walkers.” They can eloquently describe their dreams but have no progress to show for them, often masked by excuses. True, God-given vision is characterized by an unstoppable force within the believer. Obstacles become challenges to be overcome through faith and action, not reasons to quit. The RCCG campground story is a practical testimony: the vision was so compelling that the lack of funds and water were not stop signs but merely problems to be solved on the path to fulfillment.
How a Vision Gains Its Voice
The most crucial interpretation is drawn from Habakkuk 2:3: the vision will “speak.” This means a fulfilled vision has a testimony; it declares the faithfulness and power of God to all who see it. However, the devotional clarifies that the vision only begins to “speak” when the visionary begins to “run” (Habakkuk 2:2). Our action gives the vision its voice. Every step of faith, every obstacle overcome, every prayer prayed, and every foundation laid is a word in the sentence that your vision will eventually proclaim to the world. Without action, the vision remains silent, a private dream that never impacts the world.
The Call to Relentless Pursuit
The application is a direct charge against excuse-making and procrastination. God has shown you something? “Get to work.” The responsibility for the first move lies with the believer. God’s promise is that when we move, He will carry us toward the vision. He provides the water, but we must first step out in faith to secure the land. This is the partnership of divine sovereignty and human responsibility.
Pray this:
“Father, forgive me for every time I have been a hearer and speaker of vision but not a doer. I renounce the spirit of procrastination and excuse-making. Holy Spirit, ignite in me a holy restlessness to pursue the vision You have placed in my heart. Grant me divine strategies, unwavering courage, and relentless perseverance to take the first step and every step after. I declare that my vision will not perish but will come to life and speak forth Your glory to the nations. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Action Steps:
- Write It Down: If you haven’t already, obey Habakkuk 2:2. Clearly write down the vision God has given you. Be specific.
- Identify the First Step: What is one concrete, actionable step you can take this week toward that vision? (e.g., research, make a phone call, save a specific amount, start a course).
- Eliminate One Excuse: Identify the most common excuse you use (no money, no time, not ready) and counter it with a Scripture promise (e.g., Philippians 4:19, Ephesians 5:16, Isaiah 6:8).
- Share with an Accountability Partner: Tell a mature believer your vision and your first step. Ask them to check on your progress, creating external motivation to move.
Remember: A vision without action is a daydream. Action without a vision is a nightmare. But a vision with action can change the world. Your movement is the breath that gives your vision a voice. Stop talking about it. Start being about it. Run, so that those who read your life can see the vision clearly and glorify your Father in heaven.
