TOPIC: PERMANENT MIRACLES
MEMORISE
I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.
Ecclesiastes 3:14
READ: John 5:1-14
1 After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.
3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.
11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
12 Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?
13 And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.
14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
RCCG OPEN HEAVENS 9 APRIL 2026 TODAY MESSAGE
One of my spiritual sons, who is from a very wealthy home, had cancer of the jawbone. He had access to the best doctors in Europe, but after they had treated him for a while, they told his parents to take him back home to Nigeria because he had just two weeks to live. His parents were devastated.
When they arrived in Nigeria, they decided to bring him to Redemption City, and my faith was shaken when I saw him. The boy had trouble eating because of his illness; his head was terribly swollen, and it usually took him about an hour to finish a bottle of soft drink. I pulled myself together, prayed for him as is expected of a pastor, and God healed him. This happened 43 years ago, and to the glory of God, he is still alive today, married with children.
God gave him a testimony that is still valid today. I pray that God will give you a permanent miracle, in Jesus’ name.
One of the most amazing things that happens when God visits a man is that He brings permanent solutions. Mark 10:46-52 tells the story of a blind man named Bartimaeus. When he was told that Jesus was coming, he knew he would never beg again. That was why he threw his garment – the symbol of his shame, darkness, and blindness – away. I am sure that the moment he received his sight, he never begged again – his testimony was permanent.
Some people have had miracles and lost them. Some have received something precious from God but have lost it out of carelessness. In the name that is above every other name, the testimony God will give you will last forever.
Beloved, the only way the miracles and testimonies you receive from God will be permanent is when you flee sin. Today’s Bible reading tells us the story of a man who had been sick for 38 years; Jesus healed him, and he was happy. However, when Jesus saw him again, He warned him not to engage in sin anymore because if he did, something worse could happen to him. When someone who has been delivered by God from the path of destruction jumps back into sin, the devil can torment and torture that fellow as he pleases.
If you have gone back into sin, return to Jesus today and ask Him to save you. He will graciously restore you when you return to Him wholeheartedly.
KEY POINT:
To make your miracles permanent, never toy with sin.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL 9 APRIL 2026 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Ecclesiastes 3:14
“I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.”
This verse establishes a foundational truth about God’s work: when He acts, it is permanent. Human efforts fade, break, and need repairs. But what God does stands forever. Nothing can add to it to improve it, and nothing can subtract from it to diminish it. God’s miracles are designed to last.
BIBLE READING: John 5:1-14
This passage records the healing of a man who had been infirm for thirty-eight years. He lay by the pool of Bethesda, surrounded by others waiting for a move of the water, but he had no one to help him in. Jesus asked him a direct question: “Wilt thou be made whole?” The man gave excuses, but Jesus simply commanded him to rise, take up his bed, and walk. The healing was immediate and complete. Later, Jesus found him in the temple and gave him a serious warning: “Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.” This second encounter reveals that the permanence of a miracle depends on what happens after the miracle. Sin can undo what God has done and open the door to something worse.
The God of Permanent Miracles
In today’s devotional, Pastor E.A. Adeboye shares a powerful testimony and a serious warning. He reveals that God specializes in permanent solutions—miracles that don’t fade, healings that don’t reverse, testimonies that remain valid for decades. But he also warns that the permanence of your miracle is tied to your relationship with sin.
A Testimony That Lasted 43 Years
The devotional opens with the story of a young man from a wealthy family who was diagnosed with cancer of the jawbone. He had access to the best doctors in Europe, but after all their treatments, they sent him home to die. The prognosis was two weeks.
His family brought him to Redemption City. Daddy Adeboye admits that his faith was shaken when he saw the boy—his head terribly swollen, struggling an hour to finish a single bottle of soft drink. But he prayed, as a pastor should, and God healed him.
That was forty-three years ago. Today, that man is still alive, married with children. His testimony is still valid. The miracle didn’t wear off. The cancer didn’t return. God gave him a permanent miracle.
This is the kind of God we serve. He doesn’t just patch things up temporarily. When He heals, He heals for good. When He delivers, He delivers permanently. Ecclesiastes 3:14 declares that everything God does is forever. Nothing can add to it or take from it.
The Garment That Was Never Needed Again
Daddy Adeboye points to Bartimaeus as another example of permanent testimony. When the blind beggar heard that Jesus was passing by, he threw away his garment. That garment was the symbol of his identity as a beggar. It was what he spread on the ground to collect coins. It was his security, his tool of trade, his daily necessity.
But Bartimaeus threw it away because he knew instinctively: after Jesus touches me, I will never need this again. He understood that Jesus doesn’t do temporary fixes. When Jesus gives sight, you don’t keep your beggar’s garment just in case. You throw it away and never look back.
The question for us is: Have you thrown away your garment? Or are you still holding onto the old ways, the old securities, the old sins, just in case the miracle doesn’t last?
The Warning: Sin Can Reverse Your Miracle
The Bible reading provides the solemn warning. Jesus healed a man who had been sick for thirty-eight years. It was a glorious moment—the man picked up his bed and walked. But later, Jesus found him in the temple and said something surprising: “Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.”
This reveals a terrifying possibility: you can be healed and then lose your healing. You can be delivered and then experience something worse. How? By returning to sin.
Sin is not just a moral failure—it is a spiritual door. When you sin after being delivered, you open yourself to the enemy again. The devil, who was forced to flee, now has legal ground to return. And Jesus warns that what comes back can be worse than what was there before.
Why Sin Destroys Testimonies
Sin destroys the permanence of your miracle for several reasons:
- It Breaks Your Connection to the Source: Your miracle came from God. Sin separates you from God (Isaiah 59:2). When you are separated from the Source, the flow of His power and protection is cut off.
- It Gives the Enemy Legal Access: When you sin, you step out from under God’s covering. You enter territory where the enemy has rights. The devil doesn’t need permission to attack someone living in rebellion.
- It Invites Worse Things: Jesus specifically warned about “a worse thing.” This suggests that demons can return with reinforcements. The state of a person who falls back into sin after deliverance is more desperate than before.
How to Keep Your Testimony Permanent
If you have received a miracle from God—whether healing, deliverance, breakthrough, or restoration—here is how to ensure it lasts:
- Flee Sin Completely: Not just resist sin—flee from it. Run from anything that would separate you from God. Treat sin as the enemy of your testimony.
- Stay Connected to Jesus: The man Jesus healed was found in the temple. He went to where God’s presence was. After your miracle, don’t drift away. Stay in church, stay in prayer, stay in the Word.
- Guard Your Heart: Be careful what you watch, what you listen to, who you associate with. Not everyone who celebrates your miracle wants it to last. Some will subtly pull you back toward the old life.
- Keep Testifying: One of the best ways to keep your miracle is to keep talking about it. Testimony reinforces your faith and reminds the enemy that God has marked you.
- If You Have Fallen, Return Quickly: The devotional ends with hope. If you have gone back into sin, you are not beyond recovery. Return to Jesus today. Ask Him to save you again. He is gracious and will restore you when you come wholeheartedly.
A Warning About “Worse Things”
The phrase “a worse thing” should sober every believer. Imagine being sick for thirty-eight years, then healed by Jesus Himself, then losing it all and ending up in a state worse than thirty-eight years of sickness. That is what sin can do.
This is not meant to scare you away from God—it is meant to keep you close to Him. The same power that healed you is the power that keeps you. Stay in that power. Don’t wander back to the beggar’s garment. Don’t return to the sin that brought you low.
Conclusion: Your Testimony Can Last Forever
God wants to give you a permanent miracle. He doesn’t do temporary fixes. When He heals, He intends for you to stay healed. When He delivers, He intends for you to stay free. When He blesses, He intends for the blessing to remain.
But you have a part to play. Flee sin. Stay close to Jesus. Guard your heart. Keep testifying. And if you have wandered, come back today. He is waiting to restore you.
Pray this:
“Father, I thank You for every miracle You have done in my life. I thank You that Your works are forever. Lord, I repent of every sin that threatens my testimony. I flee from anything that would separate me from You. Keep me close to Your side. Let my miracle be permanent. Let my testimony last forever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Action Steps:
- Examine your life: Is there any sin you have returned to since your last breakthrough? Confess it today and turn away from it completely.
- Identify your “garment”: What old security or identity do you need to throw away, trusting that God’s work in you is permanent?
- Stay in the temple: Make a fresh commitment to regular church attendance, prayer, and Bible study. Don’t drift.
- Share your testimony: Tell someone this week about a permanent miracle God has done in your life. Let your words reinforce your faith.
