RCCG SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS MANUAL LESSON 53 (31 AUGUST 2025)

TOPIC: SPECIAL INTERACTIVE SESSION

DISCUSSION ON SOME OF THE CHALLENGING LESSONS OR SUBJECTS IN THE COURSE OF THE YEAR 2024-2025. THIS CAN TAKE THE FORM OF A DEBATE, QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS OR CLARIFICATIONS.

HERE ARE SOME ISSUES THAT MAY BE DEBATED IN THE CLASS IN THE 2024-2025 SUNDAY SCHOOL MANUAL.

  1. Lesson 1: Is the kingdom of God in heaven or on earth?
  2. Lesson 14: Is there anything like holy anger? Is it possible to be angry and not sin?
  3. Lesson 48: Is it only believers in Christ living holy that will make it to heaven? What about people of other religions (non-Christians) that are doing good?

TEACHERS SHOULD ALLOW THE STUDENTS PRESENT THEIR POINTS IN FAVOUR OR AGAINST THE MATTER. THEN, THE TEACHER SHOULD PRESENT THE CORRECT BIBLICAL STANCE AS STATED BELOW:

LESSON 1: Is The Kingdom Of God In Heaven Or On Earth?

  • The kingdom of God is the rule of an eternal, sovereign God over all the universe. Psalm 103:19 says “The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.” God’s kingdom is an eternal kingdom” (Daniel 4:3). It stretches from the ageless past to the future yet unseen. The kingdom of God comprises everything that is: visible and invisible.
  • The kingdom of God is also a spiritual rule over the hearts and lives of those who are genuinely born-again and willingly submit to God’s authority (John 3:3-5). Such people enter the kingdom of God on earth awaiting a translation to the kingdom of God in Heaven.
  • God’s kingdom resides within the heart of believers in Christ (Luke 17:20-21).
  • Ultimately, the kingdom of God (which the disciples enquired about when Jesus was about to ascend in Acts 1:6) will be the literal rule of Christ on the earth during the millennium. (Daniel 2:44).
  • Those who reject God’s authority and refuse to submit to Him are not part of the kingdom of God on earth and in heaven (1 Corinthians 6:9).

LESSON 14: Is There Anything Like Holy Anger? Is It Possible To Be Angry And Not Sin?

  • There are two Greek words translated as “anger.”
One means “passion, energy” and the other means “agitated, boiling.”
  • The first type of anger, of which the Bible approves, is called “righteous indignation” or “holy anger.” For instance, the Bible says God is angry with the wicked everyday (Psalm 7:11). Jesus looked on the Pharisees who were opposed to Him healing the man with a withered hand in anger (Mark 3:5).
This is God-given energy intended to help solve problems in the face of oppositions and it is acceptable for believers to be angry (Ephesians 4:26). Other examples of biblical anger include David’s being upset over hearing Nathan the prophet sharing an injustice (2 Samuel 12) and Jesus’ anger over how some of the Jews had defiled worship at God’s temple in Jerusalem (John 2:13-18).
  • Holy anger does not involve self-defence, but a de-fence of others or of a principle (against injustice, harassment, etc). Anger at an injustice inflicted against oneself is also appropriate. Hence, anger is not always sin.
  • The second type of anger comes with agitation or rage. This anger becomes sin when:
  • It is motivated by pride (James 1:20).
  • It is unproductive and distorts God’s purposes (1
    Corinthians 10:31).
It is allowed to linger or hijacked by the devil especially when the angry one refuses to be pacified, holds a grudge, or keeps it all inside (Ephesians
    4:26-27).
  • It produces poisonous speech which is a common characteristic of a fallen man (Bomans 3:13-14).
It is allowed to boil over without restraint, resulting in a scenario in which hurt is multiplied (Proverbs 29:11), leaving devastation in its wake.
One obvious sign that anger has turned to sin is when, instead of attacking the problem at hand, we attack the person (Ephesians 4:15-19).
The consequences of out-of-control anger are devastating and irreparable.

LESSON 48: Is It Only Believers In Christ Living Holy That Will Make It To Heaven? What About People Of Other Religions (Non-Christians) That Are Doing Good?

After the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, God, in His mercy and love for mankind started making plans to redeem and reconcile them to Himself. The provision to transfer the sin of man to innocent animals failed overtime because man kept returning to his vomit (Hebrews 9:12-14; 2 Peter 2:22). God cannot compromise on His standard. There has to be punishment for sins committed and the price is death (2 Thessalonians 1:6; Romans 6:23). Our good does not outweigh our bad (Isaiah 64:6).

Only God can redeem man from the nature of sin that we inherited through Adam, so God came in the flesh (as God the son-Jesus Christ) to live on earth like man (in human form). Jesus was tested and tried by all the forces of life yet without sin

(John 14:30; Hebrews 4:15). Since, it is required that the blood of the innocent must be shed for there to be remission of sin, Jesus (without sin) laid down His life, took the sin of the whole worl upon Himself, and died to pay the ultimate price required by the law to save mankind from eternal damnation and destruction (2 Corinthians 5:21).

All that is required from sinful humans now is to believe in the love of God and embrace the grace that brings salvation through Jesus (Titus 2:11).

The only one that gives salvation is Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12).

Jesus made it clear that He came from heaven. and would go back to heaven to create room for as many as would believe Him (John 14:1-3). Не emphasised that nobody can get to heaven except by Him (John 14:6) and anyone that does not believe in Him is already condemned (John 3:18, 36).

There is no amount of good deed that can replace the provision made by God to save humanity.

Remember Cornelius (Acts 10). Jesus is the ONLY way to heaven and ONLY those who accept Him as LORD and SAVIOUR, living by faith in Him to the end will make it to heaven.

GLORY BE TO GOD. GOD BLESS YOU IN JESUS’ NAME. AMEN.
