OPEN HEAVEN 10 NOVEMBER 2025 TODAY DEVOTIONAL
TOPIC: THE BACKSTAGE AND THE LIMELIGHT II
MEMORISE:
By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.
Hebrews 11:23
READ: Matthew 2:13-21:
13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.
17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying,
18 In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.
19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child’s life.
21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 10 NOVEMBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE
Yesterday, I said that Andrew was promoted to being in the background instead of the spotlight. Today, I will continue my discussion on Matthew 10:2 by sharing a few questions God asked me when I was studying the verse.
He asked, “What part of a building carries the biggest burden?” I answered, “The foundation”. He asked again, “What part of the building is unseen?” I responded, “The foundation”
He continued, “If the building is burnt down, what part of it escapes the fire?” | answered, “The foundation”. Finally, He asked, “When there is a storm, what part is blown off first?” I answered, “The roof”. The roof is the part of a building that people usually notice first, and it is the one that is usually blown off first in a storm while the foundation remains intact.
People who want to be seen every time are more likely to be blown off by storms. Believers who have an unhealthy desire to be seen and known as the people who make things happen need to pray to God for new hearts so they won’t be the first to be blown off when storms come.
God often hides people to preserve them. Before John the Baptist began his ministry, he was in the wilderness until the day of his showing unto Israel (Luke 1:80). God hid him until the right time. If John had insisted that he wanted to fulfil all the prophetic words the angel gave his father before the day of his showing, he might have been blown off. Even when Jesus came to the earth as a man, God didn’t announce Him to the whole world immediately. As we read in today’s Bible reading, God instructed Joseph to hide Jesus in Egypt until it was safe to return to Israel.
Moses’ mother also hid him for three months until she could no longer hide him from Pharaoh. She put him in a basket and put the basket on the River Nile, and God arranged for the very system that should have killed him to preserve him (Exodus 2:1-10). When people insist on being in the spotlight when God hasn’t permitted them, they expose themselves to the ‘Herods’ and ‘Pharaohs’ who are after their destinies.
Beloved, don’t get frustrated if it seems you are not operating in the realm of influence that God has promised you. He is faithful to His words and is only preserving you until the right time. Be patient, and put your total trust in Him.
REFLECTION
Let God be the One to announce you at the right time.

HYMN 19: ROCK OF AGES CLEFT FOR ME
OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 10 NOVEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Hebrews 11:23 (KJV)
“By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.”
This verse highlights that the very first act in Moses’ deliverance was an act of faith-fueled hiddenness. His preservation, and thus his destiny, depended not on early prominence but on being concealed from the enemy until God’s appointed time.
BIBLE READING: Matthew 2:13-21
This passage is a powerful narrative of divine strategy through concealment:
- v. 13-15: God instructs Joseph to flee to Egypt to hide Jesus from Herod’s murderous intent. The Messiah’s survival depended on obscurity.
- v. 16-18: Herod, enraged, destroys all the male children in Bethlehem, demonstrating the very real danger from which Jesus was hidden.
- v. 19-21: Only after the threat has passed (“they are dead which sought the young child’s life”) does God command their return, showing that hiddenness is a temporary, strategic season for preservation.
The Foundation Principle: Preservation in Hiddenness
Building on the story of Andrew, Pastor E.A. Adeboye uses a powerful architectural analogy and biblical examples to unveil a critical spiritual law: those whom God hides, He preserves. This devotional is a profound comfort for anyone feeling overlooked or in a season of preparation, assuring them that what appears to be a delay is actually a divine safeguard.
1. The Architectural Analogy: Foundation vs. Roof
The Unseen, Burden-Bearing Foundation:
The Holy Spirit, through a series of questions to Daddy Adeboye, reveals the superior role of the foundation. It is the part that carries the greatest weight, remains unseen, survives fires, and withstands storms. This represents the believer who is content to be the hidden, supportive, structural element in God’s kingdom.
The Visible, Vulnerable Roof:
The roof is the most noticeable part of a building but also the most exposed and vulnerable. It is the first to be “blown off” in a storm. This represents the believer who craves the spotlight—their visibility makes them the primary target for spiritual attacks, pride, and the pressures that can destroy a destiny.
2. Biblical Case Studies in Divine Hiding
The scripture provides clear patterns of God hiding His chosen vessels for their protection and future effectiveness.
| Biblical Figure | The Threat | The Season of Hiddenness | The Divine Outcome |
|---|---|---|---|
| John the Baptist | Premature ministry, public pressure, spiritual warfare. | Years in the wilderness (Luke 1:80). | Preserved and prepared for a powerful, though short, prophetic ministry. |
| The Child Jesus | King Herod’s murderous decree. | Hidden in Egypt (Matthew 2:13-15). | Preserved to fulfill His destiny of death and resurrection at the appointed time. |
| The Infant Moses | Pharaoh’s genocidal command. | Hidden in a home, then in a basket on the Nile (Exodus 2:1-3). | Preserved and positioned to be raised in the palace, later to become the deliverer. |
3. The Purpose and Peril of Seasons of Hiddenness
Divine Preservation from “Herods and Pharaohs”:
God hides His people to protect them from the enemy’s attacks aimed at destroying their destiny. Insisting on premature visibility is like a baby Moses walking into Pharaoh’s court—it exposes one to unnecessary destruction.
Preparation for Future Assignment:
Hidden seasons are not wasted; they are incubation periods. The wilderness for John the Baptist and the carpenter’s shop for Jesus were places of preparation, character building, and intimacy with the Father before public launch.
The Danger of Self-Promotion:
The devotional issues a stern warning: an “unhealthy desire to be seen” makes one vulnerable to being “blown off.” When we promote ourselves instead of waiting for God’s promotion, we step out from under His protective covering and into the line of fire.
How to Thrive in a Season of Hiddenness
1. Reject Frustration and Trust God’s Timing:
Do not mistake God’s hiding for His rejection. His promises are yea and amen (2 Corinthians 1:20). Your season of obscurity is proof of His faithfulness to preserve you for the perfect moment.
2. Embrace the Foundation Mindset:
Find joy and purpose in being the unseen support system for others. Serve faithfully in the background, knowing that your hidden work is carrying eternal weight and providing stability for the entire “building.”
3. Pray for a New Heart:
As Daddy Adeboye advises, sincerely ask God to remove the desperate need for public recognition and replace it with a heart that finds its satisfaction in His approval alone.
Warning: The Impatience of Self-Launch
The greatest threat to a God-ordained destiny is often the person’s own impatience. Coming out of hiding before God’s “showing forth” can abort a destiny, just as a seed dug up before it sprouts will never become a tree.
Conclusion: Secure in the Shadow of His Hand
Pray this:
“Father, I thank You that You are my divine Preserver. I surrender my timeline and my desire for recognition to You. Help me to embrace my season of hiddenness as a place of protection and preparation. Make me a faithful foundation in Your kingdom, and I trust You to bring me forth in Your perfect time, fully preserved and ready for Your use, in Jesus’ name.”
Action Steps:
- Identify Your ‘Wilderness’: Acknowledge the area of your life where you feel hidden or on hold. Thank God for it as your place of preservation.
- Study the Hidden Years: Read about Joseph in prison, David in the fields and caves, and Jesus’ first 30 years. Note how God used those seasons to build character and dependence.
- Serve in Secret: Intentionally do something kind or helpful for someone this week without any possibility of them finding out it was you. Let it be an act of worship to God alone.
Remember: The same hand that hides you is the hand that will exalt you at the perfect time. Your foundation season is not a sign of God’s neglect but of His meticulous care for your destiny.
“And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.” (Isaiah 45:3). Your hidden place holds priceless treasure.
