RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 11 NOVEMBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE
If there is a storm in the jungle, big, tall trees might be uprooted. However, by the time the storm is over, the lowly grass will remain in its position. When strong winds blow, a blade of grass will bow in the direction of the wind, but after the wind blows, it will return to its former posture and remain like that.
In life, storms happen every now and then. When a storm comes, many people who have pride in their hearts and consider themselves to be better than everyone else are usually blown off, while the unknown – the meek and lowly – remain and praise God after the storm has passed.
Everyone who became proud in the Bible was eventually blown off by one thing or the other.
Nebuchadnezzar was blown off his throne for seven years, and he ate grass like an ox because he refused to remain humble (Daniel 4:28-37). Pharaoh lost his army to the Red Sea because he refused to acknowledge God and insisted on stubbornly pursuing God’s people (Exodus 14:28).
Pride makes people put themselves in a place where they can be easily destroyed. Beloved, no matter the height you attain in life, it is wise for you to remain humble and avoid becoming a show-off.
Today’s memory verse tells us that with pride comes shame, but with the lowly is wisdom.
Nobody can access God’s wisdom with a proud heart. When a man becomes proud, he invites shame to visit him. Pride always goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall (Proverbs 16:18). A humble man, however, will enjoy preservation and promotion because humility attracts God’s favour and blessings.
Proverbs 29:23 tells us that while a man’s pride brings him low, a humble man will be upheld by honour.
Pride is very dangerous because it makes people delusional. When they ought to work on themselves to become better, pride will lie to them that they are the best. Instead of seeking or receiving help from others, pride will deceive them that they are self-sufficient and do not need other people. When people allow pride into their hearts, they close the heavens over themselves because God resists the proud and only gives grace to the humble (James 4:6).
Beloved, no man can go far without the grace of God. If you want God’s grace in everything you do, clothe yourself with humility and never allow pride into your heart.
PRAYER POINT
Father, please help me to always clothe myself with humility so that I can always enjoy your grace, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 11 NOVEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Proverbs 11:2 (KJV)
“When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.”
This verse establishes an unbreakable spiritual law: pride and shame are inextricably linked, just as humility and wisdom are inseparable. Pride is not just a character flaw; it is a spiritual force that inevitably attracts disgrace, while a lowly spirit attracts divine insight and sound judgment.
BIBLE READING: 1 Peter 5:5-6
This passage gives a direct apostolic command concerning humility:
- v. 5: Believers are to clothe themselves with humility toward one another because “God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.” This reveals God’s active posture against the proud.
- v. 6: The call to action is clear: “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.” Humility is a conscious choice of submission that precedes divine promotion.
The Grass Principle: Humility as Your Spiritual Preservative
Pastor E.A. Adeboye concludes the series stemming from Matthew 10:2 with a powerful natural analogy that contrasts the fate of the proud and the humble in life’s inevitable storms. He moves from the concept of being hidden by God to the character required to remain preserved—the character of Christ-like humility.
1. The Natural Law: Tall Trees vs. Lowly Grass
The Vulnerability of Height (Pride):
Big, tall trees are prominent and impressive, but their rigidity makes them vulnerable in a storm. They cannot bend, so they break. This represents individuals who, through pride, become rigid, self-reliant, and elevated in their own eyes. When trials come, they are the most likely to be “uprooted” and experience a great fall (Proverbs 16:18).
The Resilience of Lowliness (Humility):
The grass is lowly, unassuming, and flexible. When the wind blows, it bows temporarily, demonstrating submission to a force greater than itself. When the storm passes, it returns to its position, unharmed. This represents the humble believer who submits to God’s “mighty hand” in every circumstance, thereby remaining preserved and resilient.
2. The Biblical Pattern: Pride Precedes the Fall
A Universal Spiritual Principle:
Daddy Adeboye underscores that this is not a suggestion but a fixed law in God’s kingdom. He provides stark examples:
- Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 4): His pride led to a seven-year period of insanity and humiliation, living like an animal until he acknowledged God’s sovereignty.
- Pharaoh (Exodus 14): His stubborn pride and refusal to release Israel led to the catastrophic loss of his entire army in the Red Sea.
The Mechanism of Destruction:
Pride does not just annoy God; it actively sets a person up for destruction. It places them in a position—through self-sufficiency, arrogance, and rebellion—where they are exposed to consequences from which humility would have shielded them.
3. The Core Problem: Pride Blocks Grace and Wisdom
Pride Invites God’s Resistance:
The most terrifying truth in Scripture regarding pride is that God actively resists the proud (James 4:6, 1 Peter 5:5). This means God sets Himself in battle array against them. No human plan can succeed when God is the opposition.
Pride Creates Delusion:
A proud person lives in a state of deception. They are lied to by their own heart, believing they are self-sufficient, the best, and in no need of correction or help. This delusion “closes the heavens” over them, cutting them off from the grace, wisdom, and favor that only God can give.
How to Clothe Yourself in Humility
1. Consciously Acknowledge Your Dependence:
Begin each day with a prayer of dependence: “Lord, I cannot breathe, think, or succeed without You. I need Your grace for everything I will face today.” This breaks the spirit of self-sufficiency.
2. Embrace Correction and Counsel:
Do not be defensive when corrected. Welcome godly counsel and constructive criticism as a gift from God to keep your heart soft and pliable. A humble person is a teachable person.
3. Celebrate Others’ Successes:
Intentionally rejoice when others are promoted, blessed, or recognized. This trains your heart to fight comparison and the pride that comes from wanting to be above others.
Warning: The Deceptive Nature of Success
Success is a primary doorway for pride. The higher you climb, the more susceptible you become to the lie that you achieved it yourself. This is why Daddy Adeboye exhorts, “No matter the height you attain in life, it is wise for you to remain humble.” Your preservation at the top depends entirely on your humility.
Conclusion: The Pathway to Preservation and Promotion
Pray this:
“Father, in the name of Jesus, I renounce every seed of pride in my heart. I choose to humble myself under Your mighty hand right now. Clothe me with the genuine humility of Christ. Make me like the grass—resilient, lowly, and preserved through every storm. I rely entirely on Your grace and ask for the wisdom that only You give to the lowly in heart.”
Action Steps:
- Conduct a Pride Audit: Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any area of your life—career, ministry, relationships, finances—where pride has taken root. Repent immediately.
- Practice Intentional Deference: In a conversation this week, intentionally let another person have the last word or receive credit for a good idea. Practice being a “grass” rather than a “tall tree.”
- Memorize Key Scriptures: Internalize Proverbs 11:2, James 4:6, and 1 Peter 5:5-6. Let them become the spiritual antibodies that fight pride in your soul.
Remember: Your spiritual survival and ultimate promotion are not dependent on your strength, but on your softness. In God’s economy, the way up is down. The path to being lifted high is to stoop low.
“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” (James 4:10). This is the guaranteed divine exchange.
