TOPIC: THE WEIGHT OF COVENANTS I

MEMORISE:

My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
Psalm 89:34

READ: Genesis 17:1-8

And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.
3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,
4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.

5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.
6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.
8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

RCCG OPEN HEAVENS 14 AUGUST 2026 TODAY MESSAGE

In today’s Bible reading, God made a covenant with Abram and promised to make him a father of many nations, then changed his name to Abraham.

God never lies, so all the promises that He made to Abraham were fulfilled.

Numbers 23:12 says:”God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?”makes a covenant with a person, He always fulfils His part, and this gives the fellow access to everything he or she will ever need on earth. These things include long life, prosperity, favour, blessings, joy, peace, divine health, and everything good.

The devil, on the other hand, is unable to keep any covenant he makes. He breaks his promises at will because he is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44).

People often enter into covenants with other parties to receive something from them, while also giving something in return. The real weight of a covenant, however, comes when one of the parties involved is unable to fulfil their obligations. In most cases, a heavy weight of death is the consequence for breaking a covenant.

When people join secret societies, they enter into covenants. When they do not do the things they are asked to do in the group, the penalty is usually death. You might be asking yourself, “Why would anybody want to join a cult knowing that it could lead to their death?” Some people claim that they join secret societies because they need protection, while others say that it is for prosperity and other benefits. It is important to note that the devil lures them into such societies with the promise of those things, but in return, he takes their souls and destroys them. What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul (Matthew 16:26)? A soul is too heavy a weight for anyone to surrender to the devil.

Beloved, do not allow the devil to tempt you into establishing an evil covenant with empty promises, and if you have entered into any covenant with hell and signed a pact with satan, Jesus can set you free if you run to Him. He will not cast away anyone who comes to Him (John 6:37). I pray that the Lord will establish His covenant of peace with you and your household, in Jesus’ name.

KEY POINT

Any covenant that is made with the devil is based on lies.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL 14 AUGUST 2026 COMMENTARY

MEMORISE: Psalm 89:34

“My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.”

God is faithful to every covenant He makes. He does not break His promises, nor does He change His word. When He enters into covenant with you, you can trust Him completely. His part will always be fulfilled.

BIBLE READING: Genesis 17:1-8

God appeared to Abram when he was ninety-nine years old and made a covenant with him. He changed his name to Abraham—”father of a multitude”—and promised to make him exceedingly fruitful, to give him the land of Canaan, and to be God to him and his descendants forever. This was an unconditional covenant of blessing and inheritance.

God Always Fulfills His Covenants

“In today’s Bible reading, God made a covenant with Abram and promised to make him a father of many nations, then changed his name to Abraham. God never lies, so all the promises that He made to Abraham were fulfilled.”

Numbers 23:19 – “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?”

The Devil Cannot Keep a Covenant

John 8:44 – “He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

The Weight of Covenant: Breaking Brings Death

“People often enter into covenants with other parties to receive something from them, while also giving something in return. In most cases, a heavy weight of death is the consequence for breaking a covenant.”

How to Stay Free from Evil Covenants (Practical Steps)

Based on Daddy Adeboye’s teaching, here is how to avoid and break free from satanic covenants:

1. Understand That Satan’s Promises Are Empty

He offers protection but delivers destruction. He promises prosperity but takes your soul. Do not be deceived. His covenants are traps.

2. Reject Every Invitation to Secret Societies

Do not be lured by promises of protection, money, or influence. Nothing is worth your soul. Say no to any covenant that does not honor God.

3. If You Have Entered an Evil Covenant, Run to Jesus

Do not despair. Do not think it is too late. Jesus can break every chain. Confess your sin. Renounce the covenant. Ask Him to set you free.

4. Trust in God’s Covenant, Not the Devil’s

God’s covenant is faithful. He keeps His promises. He gives long life, prosperity, favour, joy, peace, and divine health—without the cost of your soul. Trust Him.

5. Walk in the Freedom Christ Gives

Do not go back. Do not revisit what God has broken. Guard your soul. Stay close to Jesus. Let His covenant of peace cover you and your household.

Warning: The Devil Is a Liar—Do Not Believe Him

Daddy Adeboye’s devotional carries an urgent warning: the devil lures with promises he cannot keep. He always lies. He always destroys.

What the Devil SaysThe Reality
“I will protect you”He will destroy you
“I will prosper you”He will impoverish your soul
“You will gain everything”You will lose everything

Conclusion: Your Prayer for Deliverance and Covenant Peace

Daddy Adeboye closes with a prayer that the Lord will establish His covenant of peace with you and your household. Do not sell your soul for empty promises.

Pray this:

“Lord Jesus, I thank You that You are a faithful God who keeps every covenant. Forgive me for any covenant I have entered into with the enemy—whether knowingly or unknowingly. I renounce every pact I have made with hell. I break every agreement signed with satan. Today, I run to You. I ask You to set me free. Cleanse me with Your blood. Cover me and my household with Your covenant of peace. I reject the devil’s empty promises. I trust in Your faithful covenant. You are my protection. You are my prosperity. You are my peace. In Jesus’ mighty name.”

Action Steps:

  1. The Covenant Check: Have you ever joined any secret society, cult, or group that required a pledge or oath against God? If yes, renounce it today. Confess it to God.
  2. The Renunciation Prayer: Say aloud: “I renounce every covenant with hell. I break every pact with satan. I am free in Jesus’ name.”
  3. The Covenant Declaration: Declare daily: “God’s covenant over my life is faithful. He keeps His promises. I trust Him. I will not sell my soul.”
