OPEN HEAVEN 2 FEBRUARY 2026 TODAY DEVOTIONAL
TOPIC: DEALING WITH DEMONIC VEXATION
MEMORISE:
Therefore thou deliveredst them into the hand of their enemies, who vexed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies.
Nehemiah 9:27
READ: Matthew 17:14-18
14 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 2 FEBRUARY 2026 MESSAGE TODAY
When the devil decides to torture his victims through vexation, he attacks them intermittently with problems that hurt and embarrass them. To achieve this, the devil assigns a demon or demons to operate in the victim’s life at regular intervals.
In today’s Bible reading, Jesus was coming down from the Mount of Transfiguration when a father brought his son to him. The father narrated how a demon came at intervals to cause his son to throw himself into the fire and into the water. The demon wasn’t always troubling the boy, but it would come from time to time to push him to harm himself.
Some people are perfectly okay in one minute, and in the next minute, they suddenly find themselves in trouble. For example, people with epilepsy are attacked at intervals, and the seizures sometimes come when they are in public places, thus causing them a great deal of embarrassment.
In the 70s, there was a lady in The Redeemed Christian Church of God who had a child who was suffering from the vexation of the enemy. The child had regular seizures, and whenever she rented a new apartment, her son would have one of such attacks.
In those days, people believed that such attacks were contagious, and as such, the landlords of the apartments she rented would chase her out of their houses after such incidents. This sister had been moving from one house to the other until one day when, right in the centre of the town she lived in, the child had an attack. What she had been trying to hide became a public thing, and everyone around her at that moment fled.
When this happened, she grabbed the child, looked up to the Almighty God and prayed. She said, “Father, my secret is out, and I have no help. Please, arise on my behalf.” That was the last day the child had an epileptic attack.
The Lord will always arise for those who call upon Him in truth. Psalm 145:18 says, “The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.”
Beloved, have you been experiencing the vexation of the enemy? Has he been coming into your life at intervals to steal, kill, and destroy? Surrender your life to Jesus if you have not done so.
Promise Him that you will live according to His will from now on, and call upon Him to deliver you. He will surely rise in your defence.
PRAYER POINT:
Father, please put an end to every plan of the enemy to vex me or anyone in my family, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 2 FEBRUARY 2026 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Nehemiah 9:27
“Therefore thou deliveredst them into the hand of their enemies, who vexed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies.”
This verse establishes a critical pattern in God’s dealing with His people: disobedience opens the door to the vexation of enemies, but genuine, desperate prayer opens the window of heaven for deliverance. It reveals God’s heart—He allows trouble to drive us back to Him, and His mercy responds to our cry with a saviour.
BIBLE READING: Matthew 17:14-18
This passage presents a vivid case study of demonic vexation. The boy is attacked at intervals—thrown into fire or water. The attack is periodic, destructive, and embarrassing, aimed at destroying the victim both physically and socially. The disciples’ inability to cure him highlights that some afflictions are deeply rooted and require a higher level of spiritual authority and faith.
The Strategy of Demonic Vexation
Daddy Adeboye provides a clear analysis: vexation is not a constant oppression but a torturous, intermittent attack. The enemy’s goal is to create a life of unpredictable crises that inflict pain, cause loss, and heap shame upon the victim, making them live in fear of the next attack.
The Characteristics of Vexatious Attacks
1. The Interval Pattern
Symptom: Sudden, Cyclical Crises
Like the boy in Matthew 17, the attacks come “from time to time.” A person may experience seasons of peace, only to be suddenly thrown into a familiar crisis—financial downturn, relational strife, health flare-ups, or public disgrace—that repeats in a cycle.
2. The Agenda of Harm and Shame
Symptom: Destructive & Embarrassing Manifestations
The demon drove the boy into fire and water to destroy him. The epilepsy example shows how attacks are often timed to cause maximum social embarrassment, leading to isolation (like the sister being chased from homes) and compounding the suffering.
3. The Hidden Battle Made Public
Symptom: Private Struggle Becoming Open Scandal
The sister’s story illustrates a turning point: what she tried to hide in private apartments finally exploded in the public square. Often, God allows the secret vexation to become public to destroy pride, remove human solutions, and force a total dependence on Him.
The Pathway to Deliverance from Vexation
The devotional outlines a powerful, scriptural sequence for breakthrough, mirrored in Nehemiah 9:27 and the sister’s testimony.
1. The Prerequisite: Surrender and Consecration
Daddy Adeboye states clearly: “Surrender your life to Jesus… Promise Him that you will live according to His will.” This addresses the root cause mentioned in Nehemiah. Deliverance begins by closing the legal doors opened by sin or a life outside God’s will. You must be under His lordship to claim His defence.
2. The Catalyst: Desperate, Truthful Prayer
The sister’s prayer is a model: “My secret is out, and I have no help. Please, arise on my behalf.”This is a cry in truth (Psalm 145:18)—a prayer of total helplessness and raw honesty, without pretense. It is the cry of someone who has exhausted all other options and relies solely on God’s mercy. This kind of prayer moves God to arise.
3. The Promise: God Arises as Your Saviour
Nehemiah 9:27 says God gives saviours. In Matthew 17, Jesus Himself is the Saviour who rebukes the demon. When you call in truth, God arises in your defence. His arising is not passive; it is a militant intervention to rebuke, dismantle, and permanently break the cycle of attack.
Applying the Principle: From Vexation to Victory
1. Identify the Cycle
Document the intervals of your attacks. Is there a pattern (monthly, yearly, during specific seasons)? Acknowledging the cycle is the first step to breaking it.
2. Offer the Prayer of Desperation
Go before God with absolute honesty. Lay bare the shame, the pain, and the pattern. Cry out like the sister: “Lord, I can’t hide it anymore. I have no other help. Arise for me now!”
3. Command the Vexing Spirit to Go
In the name of Jesus, directly address the intermittent spirit. Using the authority of Matthew 17:18, command: “You spirit of intermittent [mention the problem—shame, crisis, epilepsy], tormenting me at intervals, I rebuke you in the name of Jesus Christ! Your cycle is broken permanently. Leave me now and never return!”
4. Live in the Will of God
Maintain your deliverance by fulfilling your promise to live according to His will. Obedience builds a wall of fire around your life (Zechariah 2:5), making it impossible for the vexing spirit to find a new legal entry.
Conclusion: The End of the Cycle
The sister’s story holds the master key: “That was the last day the child had an attack.”Deliverance from vexation can be total and permanent when approached God’s way. It moves from intermittent torture to settled peace.
Pray this:
“Almighty God, I call upon You in truth. I surrender fully to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Today, I bring before You the vexing spirit that attacks my life at intervals to steal, kill, destroy, and shame me. Father, my help is in You alone! Arise now, O Lord, and be my Saviour! Rebuke the tormentor permanently. As You did for the boy and for that sister, let this be the last day of this attack in my life, in the mighty name of Jesus!”
Action Steps:
- Solemn Surrender: If you have not, pray a prayer of total surrender, committing to live in God’s will.
- The Arise Prayer: For the next 7 days, pray the “Arise on my behalf” prayer each morning, based on Psalm 145:18.
- Break the Cycle: Using your calendar, prophetically mark today’s date as the day the cycle of vexation ended. Give thanks to God for a permanent breakthrough.
- Share Your Testimony: As God delivers you, follow the pattern of Scripture—share what He has done to strengthen others and confound the enemy.
Remember: The LORD is nigh unto you. Your cry of truth in the moment of greatest trouble summons His manifest presence. When He arises, the tormentor must flee, and the cycle of vexation is shattered forever.
