The daily devotion guide is written by Pastor E. A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

OPEN HEAVEN 2 MARCH 2025 DEVOTIONAL
TOPIC: BUT FOR THE LORD
MEMORISE
Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.
Psalm 124:6
READ: Psalm 124:1-8
If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, now may Israel say;
2 If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us:
3 Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:
4 Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:
5 Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.
6 Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.
7 Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.
8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 2 MARCH 2025 MESSAGE
When I was a lecturer at the University of Ilorin, after my morning lectures, I would leave the campus, go home for lunch, and relax before returning for my evening lectures. I was also serving as the pastor of the RCCG parish in Ilorin then, so our living room was constantly filled with people. One afternoon, after eating, Ilay on the couch in the living room to rest before returning for my evening lectures.
I closed my eyes so people walking around would think that I was sleeping and not disturb
While lying down, someone grabbed my hands and legs and bent as if to kiss me. Initially, I thought it was my wife, but then I realised that whoever could hold my hands and legs at the same time must be much taller and stronger than her. I opened my eyes immediately, and the being (I really couldn’t make out what it was) vanished. I wondered what had just happened as I felt a cold sensation run down my spine. I shook it off and went for my lectures. While I was on the campus, I started experiencing a terrible stomach ache, which led to severe stooling and vomiting.
On returning home, had to practically crawl from my car to the bathroom. Then I asked,
“Lord, why is this happening to me?” and He responded, “I just wanted you to get a glimpse of the battles I fight for you that you are not aware of.” Immediately He said that, the stomach ache, stooling, and vomiting stopped.
You have no idea how much God protects you as you go about your daily activities. You may think that you go and come safely because you are very careful or because you are a good driver, but believe me, your carefulness or driving skills cannot get you out of an accident that the devil has planned; only God can guarantee your safety. If you think that you are surrounded by security personnel, what will happen if they face a terror group with more sophisticated weapons than them? This is why Psalm 127:1 says that the watchman watches in vain if the Lord is not watching over the city.
Beloved, some people have plied the same routes you ply and gotten kidnapped or killed.
Also, the same kind of food you eat is what has caused the death of others. You should constantly thank God for your safety; you will not be alive without Him (Lamentations 3:22).
ACTION POINT
Today is my birthday; please thank God on my behalf because He truly has been faithful to me.

OPEN HEAVEN 2 MARCH 2025 COMMENTARY
1. The Reality of Spiritual Warfare (Unseen Battles)
The Open Heaven devotional for today opens with a personal testimony from Pastor E.A. Adeboye about a supernatural encounter where an unknown being attacked him, followed by sudden sickness. This experience revealed a profound truth: There are battles fought in the spiritual realm that we are unaware of (Ephesians 6:12).
- Satanic Oppression is Real: The attack came disguised (initially seeming like a loved one), showing that the enemy often works subtly (2 Corinthians 11:14).
- God’s Intervention is Constant: Though the attack was sudden, God allowed it only to teach a lesson – that He is always fighting for us (Exodus 14:14).
Application:
✔ Acknowledge spiritual warfare – not everything is a coincidence.
✔ Pray for divine covering daily (Psalm 91).
✔ Stay sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s warnings (John 16:13).
2. Human Limitations vs. Divine Protection
Many people trust in their own abilities – careful driving, strong security, good health – but the truth is:
- No human effort can stop a demonic attack (Zechariah 4:6).
- Safety is not by power nor by might, but by God’s Spirit (Psalm 127:1).
Illustration:
- The same road others traveled and were kidnapped, you passed safely not because you were smarter, but because God shielded you.
- The same food that poisoned others didn’t harm you because of divine preservation.
Application:
✔ Stop taking God’s protection for granted.
✔ Thank Him daily for unseen deliverances (Lamentations 3:22-23).
3. The Lesson: God Fights for His Children
When Daddy Adeboye asked, “Lord, why is this happening?”, God responded:
- “I just wanted you to get a glimpse of the battles I fight for you that you are not aware of.”
This means:
- We survive dangers we never knew existed (Daniel 3:27 – Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fire).
- Some attacks are diverted before they reach us (Psalm 91:7 – “A thousand may fall at your side, but it will not come near you”).
Biblical Examples:
- Elisha’s servant saw the angelic army protecting them (2 Kings 6:17).
- Peter was miraculously freed from prison (Acts 12:7-11).
Application:
✔ Walk in gratitude, not in presumption.
✔ Pray for divine covering over your family, journeys, and health.
4. The Proper Response: Thankfulness & Dependence on God
Many people only realize God’s protection after a near-death experience. But we should:
- Thank God daily for His mercies (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
- Acknowledge that without Him, we are vulnerable (John 15:5).
- Live in faith, not fear (Isaiah 41:10).
Prayer Focus:
- “Lord, open my eyes to see Your hand of protection over my life. Help me to never take Your grace for granted. Where I have trusted in my own strength, forgive me. I depend on You wholly, in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
Final Thought: You Are Alive by God’s Mercy
Somebody reading this has:
- Escaped accidents they didn’t even see coming.
- Been healed from sicknesses they didn’t know they had.
- Been protected from enemies they never knew existed.
Never attribute your safety to luck. It’s God’s grace!
“The Lord is your keeper… He will preserve your soul.” (Psalm 121:5,7)
Action Step: Today, take 5 minutes to thank God for His unseen protection over your life.
