OPEN HEAVEN 21 APRIL 2025 TODAY DEVOTIONAL
TOPIC: ACHIEVING THE IMPOSSIBLE
MEMORISE
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Luke 1:35
READ: Judges 14:5-19
5 Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnath, and came to the vineyards of Timnath: and, behold, a young lion roared against him.
6 And the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.
7 And he went down, and talked with the woman; and she pleased Samson well.
8 And after a time he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the carcase of the lion: and, behold, there was a swarm of bees and honey in the carcase of the lion.
9 And he took thereof in his hands, and went on eating, and came to his father and mother, and he gave them, and they did eat: but he told not them that he had taken the honey out of the carcase of the lion.
10 So his father went down unto the woman: and Samson made there a feast; for so used the young men to do.
11 And it came to pass, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him.
12 And Samson said unto them, I will now put forth a riddle unto you: if ye can certainly declare it me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty sheets and thirty change of garments:
13 But if ye cannot declare it me, then shall ye give me thirty sheets and thirty change of garments. And they said unto him, Put forth thy riddle, that we may hear it.
14 And he said unto them, Out of the eater came forth meat, and out of the strong came forth sweetness. And they could not in three days expound the riddle.
15 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they said unto Samson’s wife, Entice thy husband, that he may declare unto us the riddle, lest we burn thee and thy father’s house with fire: have ye called us to take that we have? is it not so?
16 And Samson’s wife wept before him, and said, Thou dost but hate me, and lovest me not: thou hast put forth a riddle unto the children of my people, and hast not told it me. And he said unto her, Behold, I have not told it my father nor my mother, and shall I tell it thee?
17 And she wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted: and it came to pass on the seventh day, that he told her, because she lay sore upon him: and she told the riddle to the children of her people.
18 And the men of the city said unto him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? And what is stronger than a lion? and he said unto them, If ye had not plowed with my heifer, ye had not found out my riddle.
19 And the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which expounded the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father’s house.
RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 21 APRIL 2025 TODAY MESSAGE
In today’s Bible reading, the Spirit of God came mightily upon Samson, and he tore a lion apart with his bare hands. If you have ever come across a lion, you would know that what Samson did was no ordinary feat; it could only have been by the Holy Spirit. In Judges 15:11-15, when He was bound and delivered to his enemies, the Spirit of God came upon him mightily, and the ropes binding him fell off as if they had been burnt by fire. He then took the jawbone of an ass and killed 1,000 men with it. That was only possible because of the Holy Spirit.
David also achieved the impossible with the help of the Holy Spirit. After Samuel poured oil on him, the Spirit of the Lord came upon him from that day forward (1 Samuel 16:13), and the effect was tremendous. A mere shepherd boy went on to kill a lion, a bear, and a giant who was troubling his people and defying his God (1 Samuel 17:34-50).
As great as those things were, they were only the beginning of the wonders God would do in David’s life. At one time, Saul wanted to get him killed, so he asked him to get the foreskin of a hundred Philistines as bride price to marry his daughter. It was a suicide mission, but because the Spirit of God was upon David, he got two hundred foreskins and returned unharmed (1 Samuel 18:25-27). He did over and beyond what was required because of the Spirit of God upon him.
If you consider how far God has brought RCCG from a small church in the corner of a slum in a third-world country to having parishes in over 190 nations of the world and several thousands of hectares of land as campgrounds around the world – you will know that these seemingly impossible feats were only made possible by the help of the Holy Spirit. Just as the Holy Spirit helped Samson, David, and the RCCG as a church, He can help you also.
If God has told you about great and mighty things that He intends to achieve through you, or if you are faced with a seemingly impossible task, do not focus on your limitations; instead, ask the Holy Spirit to overshadow you as He did with Mary (Luke 1:35). He will supply you with the strength and wisdom you need to achieve the impossible because, with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).
PRAYER POINT:
Holy Spirit, please come upon me and help me to achieve seemingly impossible feats for the kingdom, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 21 APRIL 2025 COMMENTARY
Today’s devotional for today draws from Luke 1:35, where the angel tells Mary, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you.” This same Spirit empowered Samson, David, and the early RCCG – and He is available to empower you today.
1. The Holy Spirit Enables Supernatural Strength (Judges 14-15)
- Samson tore a lion apart (Judges 14:6) and killed 1,000 men with a jawbone (Judges 15:15). Humanly impossible—but “not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit” (Zechariah 4:6).
- Application: Are you facing a “lion” (a fierce problem)? The same Spirit that empowered Samson can give you supernatural strength to overcome.
2. The Holy Spirit Equips the Unlikely (1 Samuel 16-17)
- David, a young shepherd, defeated a lion, a bear, and Goliath (1 Samuel 17:34-37). How? “The Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward” (1 Samuel 16:13).
- Later, he doubled Saul’s demand (200 Philistine foreskins instead of 100—1 Samuel 18:27). The Spirit doesn’t just help us survive—He helps us exceed expectations.
- Application: Don’t disqualify yourself because of age, experience, or background. If God has called you, His Spirit will equip you.
3. The Holy Spirit Builds What Man Cannot (RCCG’s Testimony)
- From a small church in a Nigerian slum to global impact, RCCG’s growth is a modern-day Acts 2 miracle.
- Application: Whether it’s personal dreams or ministry vision, don’t limit God. What looks impossible is an opportunity for the Spirit to move (Matthew 19:26).
4. How to Access This Power
Open Heaven devotional for today highlights three keys:
- Depend on the Spirit, not your ability (like Samson and David).
- Step out in faith—David ran toward Goliath (1 Samuel 17:48).
- Pray for the Spirit’s overshadowing (Luke 1:35).
Prayer Point:
“Holy Spirit, overshadow me! Fill me with Your power to do what I cannot do on my own. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Conclusion: You Were Made for More
Samson, David, and RCCG’s story prove: God’s Spirit turns ordinary people into history-makers.
- Your “lion” (crisis) is an opportunity for God’s glory.
- Your “Goliath” (giant problem) will fall by His power.
- Your “small beginning” is a setup for a mighty testimony.
Final Challenge:
- Ask for fresh infilling of the Spirit daily (Ephesians 5:18).
- Act in faith—the Spirit moves when we step out.
- Expect God to do “exceedingly abundantly” above your plans (Ephesians 3:20).
The same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead lives in you (Romans 8:11). What impossible thing will He do through you next?
