OPEN HEAVEN 22 NOVEMBER 2025 TODAY DEVOTIONAL

TOPIC: REAL PROPHECY

MEMORISE:
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
2 Peter 1:21

READ: 2 Kings 7:1-16:
1 Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the Lord; Thus saith the Lord, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.
2 Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.
3 And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?
4 If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.
5 And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians: and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there.

6 For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.
7 Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.
8 And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and hid it.
9 Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace: if we tarry till the morning light, some mischief will come upon us: now therefore come, that we may go and tell the king’s household.
10 So they came and called unto the porter of the city: and they told them, saying, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses tied, and asses tied, and the tents as they were.

11 And he called the porters; and they told it to the king’s house within.
12 And the king arose in the night, and said unto his servants, I will now shew you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we be hungry; therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.
13 And one of his servants answered and said, Let some take, I pray thee, five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city, (behold, they are as all the multitude of Israel that are left in it: behold, I say, they are even as all the multitude of the Israelites that are consumed:) and let us send and see.
14 They took therefore two chariot horses; and the king sent after the host of the Syrians, saying, Go and see.

15 And they went after them unto Jordan: and, lo, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. And the messengers returned, and told the king.
16 And the people went out, and spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the Lord.

RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 22 NOVEMBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE

Many self-acclaimed prophets prophesy by sight. They might look at a fellow, guess what he or she wants to hear, and say it with a serious countenance; that is guesswork, not prophecy.

Some look at the sky, and when they observe that the clouds are dark, they prophesy that it will rain. Someone once prophesied that it would rain in Nigeria in June. I heard about the prophecy and thought to myself, “June is in the middle of the rainy season; if it doesn’t rain in June, when else would it rain?” That was a prophecy by sight.

Real prophecies are, however, not based on physical observations; they are based on what God reveals in the realm of the spirit.

Most times, when God gives a prophecy, it will not make sense to the human mind because nothing in the physical will support what God is saying.

In fact, many times, the one God gives the prophecy through might be afraid to say it because of how unlikely it is – humanly speaking – for what God has said to come to pass. If God gives you a prophecy and asks you to share it, do not be afraid to speak; rest assured that whatever you say will come to pass.

In today’s Bible reading, there was a severe famine in Samaria for seven years. The famine was so bad that women began to eat their children (2 Kings 6:25-30). Amid this hardship, God’s word came through Elisha:
… Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria. 2 Kings 7:1

By all economic metrics, what Elisha said sounded illogical and practically impossible. That did not matter, however, because God brought His word to pass.

Isaiah 55:10-11 says:
For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Beloved, do not despise prophecies from genuine ministers of God because they sound illogical or impossible. Inasmuch as the messages are from God, He will surely bring them to pass.

KEY POINT

Real prophecies may sound impossible or illogical; however, God is committed to doing what He says.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR

Acts 24-26

HYMN 21: STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF CHRIST MY KING

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 22 NOVEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY

MEMORISE: 2 Peter 1:21 (KJV)
“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”
This verse establishes the divine origin of true prophecy. It is not a product of human intellect, deduction, or desire. It is a supernatural event where a person is carried along and empowered by the Holy Spirit, making them a vessel for a message that originates from the very throne of God.

BIBLE READING: 2 Kings 7:1-16
This passage is the ultimate biblical case study of a prophecy that defied all natural circumstances:

  • v. 1: Elisha delivers an utterly impossible word from the Lord: an end to a severe famine within 24 hours, with food becoming dirt-cheap.
  • v. 2: The king’s captain responds with logical, sight-based unbelief: “If the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be?” He represents human reason rejecting divine revelation.
  • v. 3-16: God orchestrates a supernatural chain of events—using four lepers, a sound of an invisible army, and the panic of the Syrian camp—to fulfill His word to the letter, exactly on time.

The Logic of Heaven: When God’s Word Defies Earthly Reality

Pastor E.A. Adeboye provides a crucial teaching to help believers distinguish between genuine, Spirit-born prophecy and human guesswork. He establishes that a true word from God will often conflict with physical evidence and human logic, requiring faith to receive and boldness to declare.

1. The Counterfeit: Prophecy by Sight

The Guessing Game:
Daddy Adeboye identifies a common problem: “self-acclaimed prophets” who operate by natural observation. They look at a person’s appearance or circumstances and make educated guesses about what they want to hear, delivering it with a “serious countenance” to appear spiritual.

The “Rain in June” Fallacy:
His example of prophesying rain in the rainy season is a brilliant illustration of this emptiness. It is a statement of the obvious, a prediction based on statistical likelihood, not divine revelation. It carries no spiritual power and requires no faith.

2. The Genuine Article: Prophecy by Revelation

Originating in the Spirit Realm:
True prophecy is not deduced from the natural environment; it is revealed from the supernatural dimension. It is God sharing His secret counsel (Amos 3:7) about what He will do, which often has no supporting evidence in the current physical reality.

The Hallmark of Illogicality:
A key indicator of a true prophetic word is that it often “will not make sense to the human mind.” The situation in Samaria was dire—cannibalism-level famine. Elisha’s prophecy of abundant food within 24 hours was, by all accounts, insane. This is because God’s word does not describe reality; it creates a new reality.

3. The Human Response: From Fear to Faith

The Prophet’s Fear:
Daddy Adeboye notes that the vessel receiving a radical word might be “afraid to say it” because of its sheer improbability. The fear of being labeled a false prophet if it fails is a real human emotion. This underscores the courage required to be a true mouthpiece for God.

The Believer’s Posture:
The instruction to believers is clear: “Do not despise prophecies” (1 Thessalonians 5:20) simply because they sound impossible. The standard for evaluation is not human logic but the character of the messenger and the alignment of the word with the broad principles of Scripture. If it is from God, His faithfulness and power guarantee its fulfillment.

How to Discern and Respond to Prophetic Words

1. Test the Source, Not Just the Content:
Is the messenger a “holy man/woman of God” known for integrity and intimacy with God? Prophecy flows from character. Be wary of those who consistently prophesy pleasant, generic, or sight-based words.

2. Embrace the “Elisha Test”:
Does the word contradict the current circumstance in a way that only God could get the glory if it comes to pass? A word that requires a miracle for its fulfillment is more likely to be from God than one that is easily achievable by human effort.

3. Stand on the Promise of Isaiah 55:11:
God’s word is compared to rain and snow that water the earth and achieve their purpose. When you receive a confirmed, genuine prophecy, hold onto it in faith. God’s word is a creative force; it will not return to Him empty but will accomplish what He pleases.

Warning: The Danger of a Naturalistic Faith
A faith that only believes what it can see, calculate, or reason out is not biblical faith. It is humanism dressed in religious language. It will always reject genuine prophetic words because they operate on a higher logic—the logic of Heaven—which often appears as foolishness to the natural mind (1 Corinthians 1:18-25).

Conclusion: Trusting the God of the Impossible

Pray this:
“Holy Spirit, my Teacher, train me to discern between human guesswork and divine prophecy. Give me a heart of faith that does not despise Your word when it contradicts my circumstances. For any genuine word You have spoken over my life that seems impossible, I thank You in advance for its fulfillment. I choose to trust in Your power and faithfulness over my own limited understanding, in Jesus’ name.”

Action Steps:

  • Record and Pray: When you receive a weighty prophetic word, write it down. Pray over it regularly, asking God for the strategy and patience to partner with Him for its fulfillment.
  • Study the Prophets: Read the books of the major and minor prophets, noting how their messages often defied the political and social realities of their day.
  • Cultivate a Spirit of Faith: In your prayer time, consciously thank God for being the God of the impossible, who calls things that are not as though they were (Romans 4:17).

Remember: The God who declared the end of a seven-year famine in a day is the same God who speaks over your life. His word is the ultimate reality. Your circumstances are temporary.

“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11). This is your assurance.
