OPEN HEAVEN 23 JUNE 2026 TODAY DEVOTIONAL

TOPIC: CHOOSE GOD’S SIDE

MEMORISE:

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
Deuteronomy 30:19

READ: Exodus 32:19-28

19 And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses’ anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.
20 And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.

21 And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them?
22 And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot: thou knowest the people, that they are set on mischief.
23 For they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go before us: for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
24 And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any gold, let them break it off. So they gave it me: then I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.
25 And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies)

26 Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the Lord’s side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.

27 And he said unto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.
28 And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.

RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 23 JUNE 2026 TODAY MESSAGE

As we see in today’s memory verse, God has set before everyone life and death, and blessing and cursing. You may say that you choose life and blessing, but truly, it is your daily actions that will reveal your actual choices.

In life, there are no ‘little’ decisions or actions. Every action a fellow takes determines whether he or she is choosing life or death. In Genesis 25:29-34, the Bible tells us how Esau returned home hungry and asked Jacob to give him a bowl of food in exchange for his birthright. He didn’t know that his action would exclude him and his unborn children from the blessing he should have received.

Today, nobody says, “The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Esau,” because Esau made himself unfit to carry the blessing when he despised his firstborn position in his family. He chose wrongly, and he paid dearly for it.

In Joshua 7:16-26, the Bible tells us how Achan’s wrong decision ultimately led to the destruction of his lineage. When God gave the Israelites victory over Jericho, God expressly commanded them not to take anything from Jericho. However, Achan chose to side with greed and ended up dying with every member of his family.

I pray that in any area you might have made a wrong decision that has put you and your family in trouble, God’s mercy will speak for you and help you retrace your steps, in Jesus’ name.

Beloved, for your sake and generations after you that are yet unborn, ensure that you stay on God’s side. Don’t be hypocritical and pretend to be someone you are not. Be on God’s side so that when He blesses you, your lineage will also be blessed.

Love God wholeheartedly, not just for your sake, but also your lineage’s sake. Psalm 112:1-2 says that if you delight in the Lord, your seed shall be mighty on the earth. This means that your descendants will not be ordinary; rather, they will be distinguished among their peers. Isaac became mighty because Abraham chose to side with God.

The Bible described him as ‘great’ and then ‘very great. At a point, he became mightier than an entire nation, and this made the king to ask him to leave their land (Genesis 26:13-16).

Child of God, whatever or whomever you choose to side with will affect you and your descendants. I urge you to choose life with all your actions so that you and every individual in your lineage will live.

KEY POINT:

Your actions will impact you and your lineage.

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 23 JUNE 2026 COMMENTARY

MEMORISE: Deuteronomy 30:19

“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.”

This verse is one of the most solemn and consequential in all of Scripture. Daddy Adeboye anchors today’s devotional on this text because it reveals that God does not force anyone into blessing or cursing. He sets both before you, clearly and openly, and then He gives you the dignity of choice. But notice: your choice does not affect only you. The verse says “that both thou and thy seed may live.” Your decisions echo into the lives of your children, grandchildren, and generations yet unborn. There is no neutral ground. Every action is a vote for either life or death, blessing or cursing.

BIBLE READING: Exodus 32:19-28

This passage records the aftermath of the golden calf incident. While Moses was on Mount Sinai receiving the Ten Commandments, the Israelites grew impatient and demanded that Aaron make them gods to lead them. Aaron collected golden earrings, fashioned a golden calf, and the people bowed to it, sacrificed to it, and engaged in revelry. When Moses descended and saw the abomination, he broke the tablets of stone, ground the golden calf to powder, mixed it with water, and made the Israelites drink it. Then he stood at the gate of the camp and said, “Who is on the LORD’s side? let him come unto me.” The sons of Levi gathered to him, and at God’s command, they killed about three thousand men who had persisted in rebellion. Daddy Adeboye uses this to show that the choice of which side you stand on has immediate and eternal consequences.

The Reality of Two Paths

1. Life and Death, Blessing and Cursing Are Before You

“As we see in today’s memory verse, God has set before everyone life and death, and blessing and cursing. You may say that you choose life and blessing, but truly, it is your daily actions that will reveal your actual choices.”

This is a critical distinction. Many people say they choose life. They profess that they want blessing. But their daily actions tell a different story.

WordsActions
“I choose life”But they spend time on activities that lead to death
“I want blessing”But they make decisions that invite cursing
“I am on God’s side”But they compromise with the world, the flesh, and the devil

“In life, there are no ‘little’ decisions or actions. Every action a fellow takes determines whether he or she is choosing life or death.”

There is no such thing as a spiritually neutral action. Every decision—what you watch, what you say, where you go, who you spend time with, how you handle money, how you treat your spouse—is either a choice for life or a choice for death. Small choices compound into destinies.

Esau: The Wrong Choice That Echoed Through Generations

1. The Incident (Genesis 25:29-34)

*”In Genesis 25:29-34, the Bible tells us how Esau returned home hungry and asked Jacob to give him a bowl of food in exchange for his birthright. He didn’t know that his action would exclude him and his unborn children from the blessing he should have received.”*

Consider the scene:

Esau’s ConditionEsau’s Decision
Exhausted from hunting“I am at the point of death”
Famished, hungrySold his birthright for a single meal
Focused on immediate needIgnored the long-term consequences

“He didn’t know that his action would exclude him and his unborn children from the blessing he should have received.”

Esau saw only the bowl of stew. He did not see the generations of descendants who would be denied the covenant blessing. He did not know that his name would become a byword for foolishness (Hebrews 12:16-17 calls him a “profane person” who sold his birthright for one morsel of food).

2. The Consequence

“Today, nobody says, ‘The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Esau,’ because Esau made himself unfit to carry the blessing when he despised his firstborn position in his family. He chose wrongly, and he paid dearly for it.”

What Esau LostWhat It Means for You
His birthright (double portion, leadership of the family, covenant blessing)Your wrong choices can forfeit spiritual inheritance
His place in the lineage of the MessiahYour decisions affect God’s plan through your line
His name removed from the covenant formulaFuture generations will not honor you as a spiritual father
The priesthood of the firstbornYour role in God’s purposes can be transferred to another

“He chose wrongly, and he paid dearly for it.”

Esau’s choice seemed small—a bowl of stew. But it revealed his heart: he valued immediate gratification over eternal inheritance. He despised his birthright. And for that, he and his descendants were cut off.

Achan: The Wrong Choice That Destroyed a Lineage

1. The Incident (Joshua 7:16-26)

*”In Joshua 7:16-26, the Bible tells us how Achan’s wrong decision ultimately led to the destruction of his lineage. When God gave the Israelites victory over Jericho, God expressly commanded them not to take anything from Jericho.”*

God’s command was clear:

What God CommandedWhat Achan Did
“Keep yourselves from the accursed thing” (Joshua 6:18)He took a Babylonian garment, 200 shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold
“Lest ye make yourselves accursed”He hid the items in his tent
“Trouble the camp of Israel”His sin caused Israel to lose the battle against Ai

2. The Consequence

“However, Achan chose to side with greed and ended up dying with every member of his family.”

Achan’s ChoiceThe Result
He chose greed over obedienceHe was stoned to death
He hid the stolen goods in his tentHis entire family was destroyed with him
He thought no one would knowGod revealed his sin publicly

Joshua 7:25 – “And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.”

Achan’s sin was not private. His decision did not affect only him. His entire household perished because of his wrong choice.

“I pray that in any area you might have made a wrong decision that has put you and your family in trouble, God’s mercy will speak for you and help you retrace your steps, in Jesus’ name.”

This is a prayer of mercy. Achan had no opportunity to repent—judgment came swiftly. But Daddy Adeboye prays that if you have made wrong choices, God’s mercy will allow you to retrace your steps before it is too late.

The Principle: Your Choices Affect Your Descendants

1. For Your Sake and for Generations Unborn

“Beloved, for your sake and generations after you that are yet unborn, ensure that you stay on God’s side.”

If You Stay on God’s SideIf You Stray from God’s Side
Your descendants will be blessedYour descendants may inherit your curses
Your name will be honored in your lineageYour name may become a cautionary tale
Your children will have a spiritual inheritanceYour children may struggle to find their footing

“Don’t be hypocritical and pretend to be someone you are not. Be on God’s side so that when He blesses you, your lineage will also be blessed.”

Hypocrisy is pretending to be on God’s side while your actions are on the side of the world. This deception may fool people, but it does not fool God. And it certainly does not fool your children, who watch your actions more than they listen to your words.

2. Abraham’s Example: One Man’s Choice Blessed Generations

*”Isaac became mighty because Abraham chose to side with God. The Bible described him as ‘great’ and then ‘very great.’ At a point, he became mightier than an entire nation, and this made the king to ask him to leave their land (Genesis 26:13-16).”*

Abraham’s ChoiceThe Result for His Descendants
He left his homeland when God calledIsaac inherited the blessing
He believed God’s promiseJacob received the covenant
He obeyed God’s voiceThe nation of Israel was born

*”Psalm 112:1-2 says that if you delight in the Lord, your seed shall be mighty on the earth. This means that your descendants will not be ordinary; rather, they will be distinguished among their peers.”*

Psalm 112:1-2 – “Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.”

Your delight in God today determines whether your children will be mighty tomorrow. Your fear of the Lord now shapes whether your grandchildren will walk in blessing.

Who Is on the Lord’s Side? (Exodus 32)

Daddy Adeboye’s Bible reading presents the ultimate test:

“Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD’S side? let him come unto me.”

The QuestionThe Response
“Who is on the Lord’s side?”The sons of Levi gathered to him
The others? They chose the golden calf

The question is still being asked today. Not with words alone, but with every decision you make:

Daily ChoicesWhich Side You Are Choosing
How you spend your timeGod’s side or the world’s side
How you spend your moneyKingdom side or selfish side
What you watch and listen toHoly side or profane side
Who you spend time withRighteous side or ungodly side
How you respond to temptationLife side or death side

“Child of God, whatever or whomever you choose to side with will affect you and your descendants. I urge you to choose life with all your actions so that you and every individual in your lineage will live.”

How to Choose Life in Every Action (Practical Steps)

Based on Daddy Adeboye’s teaching, here is how to ensure your daily choices align with life and blessing:

1. Recognize That No Decision Is Small

Stop telling yourself, “It’s just this one time” or “This little thing doesn’t matter.” Esau’s bowl of stew was small. Achan’s garment and silver were small. But the consequences were catastrophic. Every decision is a seed. You will harvest what you sow (Galatians 6:7-8).

2. Evaluate Every Decision by Its Long-Term Impact

Instead of Asking…Ask…
“Will this make me happy now?”“Will this bring blessing to my descendants?”
“Does this feel good?”“Is this on God’s side?”
“What will people think?”“What will God say?”
“Is this technically a sin?”“Is this choosing life?”

3. Love God Wholeheartedly

“Love God wholeheartedly, not just for your sake, but also your lineage’s sake.”

Wholehearted love produces wholehearted obedience. Halfhearted love produces halfhearted obedience—which, as you have learned, is disobedience. Love God with all your heart, soul, and strength (Deuteronomy 6:5). Your children will notice.

4. Repent and Retrace Your Steps

Daddy Adeboye prayed for mercy to retrace wrong steps. If you have made choices that have put you and your family in trouble:

  • Confess the specific wrong choice to God
  • Renounce the decision and its effects
  • Turn around (repent) and walk in the opposite direction
  • Ask God’s mercy to cover your descendants from the consequences

5. Consider Your Legacy

Ask yourself: What will my grandchildren say about my choices? Will they call me blessed, or will they suffer because of my foolishness? Let the weight of legacy shape your decisions today.

Warning: The Birthright Cannot Be Recovered

Esau sought the blessing afterward with tears (Hebrews 12:17). He wanted to reverse his decision. But it was too late. The birthright was gone. The blessing was transferred.

DecisionIrreversible Consequences
A moment of pleasureA lifetime of regret
A small compromiseA lost inheritance
A secret sin (like Achan)Public shame and destruction
A wrong side in a spiritual battleGenerational loss

Do not think you can always repent later. For Esau, “later” came too late. For Achan, there was no “later”—only judgment. Choose life now. Choose blessing now. Your descendants are depending on you.

Conclusion: Your Prayer for Generational Blessing

Daddy Adeboye closes with an urgent plea: choose life so that you and your lineage will live. Pray this prayer not just for yourself, but for your children, grandchildren, and generations yet unborn.

Pray this:

“Father, I come before You recognizing that You have set before me life and death, blessing and cursing. Today, I choose life. I choose blessing. Forgive me for the small decisions I have treated as insignificant—the compromises, the secret sins, the moments of choosing the world over You. I repent of every Esau moment, every Achan-like greed, every choice that has put my lineage at risk. By Your mercy, allow me to retrace my steps. Restore what I have lost. Heal what I have damaged in my descendants. From this day forward, I will love You wholeheartedly. I will obey You completely. I will choose life in every action, so that my children and my children’s children will be mighty on the earth. I want my name to be associated with blessing, not cursing. I want my descendants to say, ‘The Lord is our God because our father/mother chose Him.’ Let my life be a blessing to generations yet unborn, in Jesus’ mighty name.”

Action Steps:

  1. The Generational Audit: Sit down and write out the spiritual legacy you have inherited from your parents and grandparents (both positive and negative). Then write out the legacy you are currently building for your children and grandchildren. Are you proud of what you see? If not, change course today.
  2. The “Small Decision” Tracker: For one week, at the end of each day, write down three seemingly “small” decisions you made. Next to each, write whether it was a choice for life or death. Let this reveal patterns you need to break.
  3. The Covenant Renewal: Stand before the Lord and publicly (or privately) declare: “I choose life. I choose blessing. I choose to be on the Lord’s side. For my sake and for my lineage, I will obey God all my days.” Write it down, sign it, and keep it as a covenant reminder.

“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.” (Deuteronomy 30:19)
Every decision is a seed. Every action is a choice. There are no neutral moments. For your sake and for generations yet unborn, choose life. Choose blessing. Stay on the Lord’s side. Your descendants will rise up and call you blessed.
