RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 23 OCTOBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE

When you make Jesus your Lord, you will enjoy divine preservation. Today’s Bible reading says that He who keeps Israel neither sleeps nor slumbers. When God keeps a fellow, nothing and nobody can harm him or her (Romans 8:31).

Years ago, one of my daughters was serving the Nigerian government in Port Harcourt, a state capital in Southern Nigeria, as part of the mandatory national youth service programme for graduates of tertiary institutions. At that time, a new highway had just been constructed along the route leading to Port Harcourt from Lagos, and vehicles would drive on it at breakneck speeds because the road was really smooth.

One day, she was travelling from Lagos to Port Harcourt and she sat at the back of a public vehicle. Suddenly, the car’s front tyre ruptured, and the car began to somersault due to its speed. She shouted, “Jesus!” as the car somersaulted the first time, and unseen hands picked her up from the vehicle through the window and sat her down by the highway. She watched the car somersault five more times before it stopped.

People rushed to the scene and saw her sitting by the highway. When they asked her how she got there and she told them she was in the car that had just had an accident, they couldn’t believe her. This is what happens when the Lord puts His angels on guard over your life at all times (Psalm 91:11).

When the Lord is your keeper, He will keep your foot from being moved (Psalm 121:3).

When people are complaining about the state of the economy, for instance, you won’t be moved because the Lord is your keeper. Only Christians who have made Jesus their Lord and Saviour will have no worries in the midst of dangerous situations, like Daniel in the den of hungry lions. God sent His angel to shut the mouths of the lions and prevented them from harming Daniel because he had made God his Lord, and he was God’s responsibility. The next day, those who had made political power their lord were thrown into the same den, and the lions ate them up (Daniel 6:16-24).

People who don’t have Jesus as their Lord are open to the devil’s attacks. Have you genuinely surrendered your life to the Lord? If you haven’t, please do so today. I pray that the Lord will keep you in all your ways with His mighty hands, in Jesus’ name.

REFLECTION

When you make Jesus your Lord, you will enjoy divine protection.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR

Luke 5-6

HYMN 19: ROCK OF AGES CLEFT FOR ME

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 23 OCTOBER 2025 COMMENTARY

MEMORISE: Daniel 6:22
“My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.”
This is the testimony of divine preservation. It reveals that the most ferocious threats are rendered harmless under God’s watchful care. The angelic intervention was a direct result of Daniel’s unwavering devotion and innocence before God.

BIBLE READING: Psalms 121:1-8
This psalm is the ultimate anthem of divine preservation:
v. 3: “He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.”
v. 4: “Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.”
v. 7: “The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.”
v. 8: “The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and for evermore.”

The Unshakeable Security of the Believer

Pastor E.A. Adeboye uses a powerful modern-day testimony and the ancient story of Daniel to illustrate a fundamental covenant benefit: divine preservation. For the one who has made Jesus Lord, life is not a journey of chance but of guaranteed safekeeping under the vigilant eyes of an ever-watchful God.

The Nature of Divine Preservation

Divine preservation is God’s active, continuous work of guarding, protecting, and maintaining His children from all forms of evil and harm. It is not a passive hope but an active guardianship.

  • It is Constant: Your Keeper “shall neither slumber nor sleep” (Psalm 121:4). His vigilance is unceasing, covering you 24/7, in every time zone and in every situation.
  • It is Comprehensive: It preserves from “all evil” (v. 7)—physical, spiritual, emotional, and financial. It covers your “going out and thy coming in” (v. 8)—every activity and every transition in life.
  • It is Supernatural: It often involves angelic activity (Psalm 91:11, Daniel 6:22, Hebrews 1:14). As in the testimony, unseen hands can physically extract you from danger in the blink of an eye.

The Condition for Preservation

This level of protection is not automatic for everyone; it is conditional upon a relationship:

  • Making Jesus Your Lord: This is the recurring theme. Preservation is for those who have genuinely surrendered their lives to Christ, making Him their ultimate authority. They are, as Daniel was, “his responsibility.”
  • Dwelling in the Secret Place: Psalm 91:1, which promises this protection, begins with “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High…” Abiding in Christ through obedience and intimacy is key.
  • Innocency and Integrity: Daniel’s preservation was linked to the “innocency that was found in me” (Daniel 6:22). A life of integrity and obedience to God fortifies the hedge of protection.

The Contrast: The Unpreserved

Those who do not have Jesus as Lord are “open to the devil’s attacks.” They are like the adversaries of Daniel who were devoured by the very lions that were harmless to him (Daniel 6:24). Their trust is in political power, wealth, or human strength—all failing protectors.

The Result: An Unmoved Life

When the Lord is your keeper:

  • You will not be moved (Psalm 121:3). Economic shocks, bad news, pandemics, and dangers may swirl around you, but you remain stable, secure, and at peace.
  • You live without worry. You know you are God’s responsibility, and He is more than capable of managing His assets.
  • Your testimony becomes supernatural. Like Daniel and the sister in the testimony, your life becomes a public display of God’s keeping power.

Conclusion: Are You Under His Keeping?

Pray this:
“My Father and my Keeper, I thank You for the promise of divine preservation. I declare today that Jesus is my Lord. I surrender every area of my life to Your guardianship. Watch over me, my family, and all that concerns me. Let Your angels camp around me. Preserve my going out and my coming in. Make my life a testimony of Your supernatural keeping power, so that others may see and put their trust in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Action Steps:

  1. Affirm His Lordship: Daily acknowledge Jesus as the Lord of your life, especially in areas where you tend to worry.
  2. Pray Psalm 91 & 121: Personalize these psalms and pray them over yourself and your loved ones daily.
  3. Walk in Integrity: Examine your life for any compromise that could breach your hedge of protection. Repent and align yourself with God’s Word.
  4. Live Fearlessly: Step out in faith, knowing you are kept by God. Your safety is not your responsibility; it is His.

Remember: The same God who shut the mouths of lions and plucked a daughter from a somersaulting car is your keeper. Your life is hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3). You are perfectly safe in His hands.

“The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.” (Psalm 121:7). Rest in this covenant promise.
