OPEN HEAVEN 25 AUGUST 2025 TODAY DEVOTIONAL
TOPIC: WONDERFUL I
MEMORISE:
O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faith fulness and truth.
Isaiah 25:1
READ: John 11:38-45
38 Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
39 Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.
40 Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?
41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
45 Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 25 AUGUST 2025 TODAY MESSAGE
Wonderful means ‘full of wonders’. God is such a wonder that the Bible calls Him Wonderful (Isaiah 9:6).
Years ago, I was travelling from Ibadan to Ilorin within Western Nigeria, and there was this narrow bridge along the way that couldn’t contain two vehicles driving side by side at the same time. There was a sign which read, ‘Narrow Bridge Ahead,’ so that when drivers approached the bridge and saw another vehicle on the bridge coming in the opposite direction, they could wait for the vehicle to pass through. On this day, my driver and I were already on the bridge, and a trailer was coming from the other side at great speed.
The driver was supposed to stop for us to pass to the other side, but for unknown reasons, he didn’t. We were headed for a collision, and there was no time to pray; we could only shout,
“Jesus!” We met in the middle of the bridge, and somehow, the vehicles passed by each other. When we got to the other side, my driver was shaking like a jellyfish as he parked the car. If he had looked behind him, he would have noticed I was shaking even more than he was. When he regained his composure, I had also regained mine a bit. He turned to me and asked, “Daddy, what happened?” | replied,
“God enlarged the bridge.” Throughout the rest of our journey, he kept saying,
“Wonderful!” and I told him, “That’s His name.”
Everything about God is wonderful. His works are wonderful (Psalm 107:8) – He created the heavens and the earth in just six days! Psalm 40:5 also tells us that many are His wonderful works, and they cannot be numbered. His testimonies are also wonderful (Psalm 119:129) – He parted the Red Sea (Exodus 14:21-22) and caused the formidable walls of Jericho to crumble on their own (Joshua 6:20). His knowledge is wonderful (Psalm 139:6). His counsel is also wonderful (Isaiah 28:29) – you can never find a greater or better adviser than the Almighty God. Even when His counsel appears foolish to the human mind, it is infinitely wiser than the wisdom of men (1 Corinthians 1:25).
My wonderful God does great wonders. I pray for you today; you will experience His wonders before this year ends. When Lazarus came back to life after four days in the grave, it was a wonder. My wonderful God will visit every dead matter in your life and cause you to experience great wonders, in Jesus’ name.
OPEN HEAVEN 25 AUGUST REFLECTION
Father, please stretch Your wonderful hands towards me and cause me to experience great wonders, in Jesus’ name.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
Ezekiel 5-8
HYMN 27: WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS
OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 25 AUGUST 2025 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Isaiah 25:1
“O LORD, Thou art my God; I will exalt Thee, I will praise Thy name; for Thou hast done wonderful things; Thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.”
This verse captures God’s wonder-working nature—His actions defy natural laws yet align perfectly with His eternal wisdom.
BIBLE READING: John 11:38-45
Lazarus’ resurrection demonstrates four facets of God’s wonders:
- v.39: Human impossibility (“by this time he stinks”)
- v.41: Divine partnership (“Father, I thank Thee that Thou hast heard Me”)
- v.43: Creative command (“Lazarus, come forth!”)
- v.44: Transformational result (“he that was dead came forth”)
The God of Impossible Bridges
Daddy Adeboye’s testimony reveals three dimensions of God’s wonder-working power:
1. The Narrow Bridge Miracle
- Natural Reality:
- Physics said: Collision inevitable
- Space was: Mathematically insufficient
- Divine Intervention:
- “Enlarged the bridge” (Psalm 77:19)
- Mechanism: Either:
- Spatial expansion (like Joshua 10:13)
- Time dilation (like Hezekiah’s sundial – 2 Kings 20:11)
2. The “Wonderful” Name Breakdown
Attribute | Scripture | Modern Manifestation |
---|---|---|
Works | Psalm 107:8 | Creative miracles (new organs) |
Wisdom | 1 Cor. 1:25 | Divine strategies in crises |
Power | Exodus 14:21 | Sudden breakthroughs |
Timing | John 11:6 | “4th-day” interventions |
3. The Lazarus Protocol
- Acknowledge the Stink (v.39):
- Don’t sugarcoat dead situations
- Remove the Stone (v.41):
- Eliminate faith barriers
- Shout the Command (v.43):
- Speak to dead areas (finances, health, etc.)
- Loose & Let Go (v.44):
- Remove grave clothes of past trauma
How to Experience God’s Wonders
1. Cultivate Wonder Expectancy
- Daily Declaration:
“Today, I expect one wonder from my Wonderful God!” - Testimony Journal:
Record past wonders to fuel future faith
2. The 3-Second Crisis Prayer
When sudden danger strikes:
- Shout: “JESUS!” (Acts 4:12)
- Trust: His unseen intervention (2 Kings 6:17)
- Testify: Immediately (Psalm 107:2)
3. Apply the Lazarus Strategy
- Dead Career? Command resurrection (John 11:43)
- Stinking Relationship? Pray removing the “stone” of offense
- Bound by Failure? Demand grave clothes removed
Prayer for Your Wonder
“Wonderful Counselor, visit my impossible situations today! Where bridges need widening, stretch dimensions. Where death reigns, shout resurrection power. Do what only You can do—make me a living testimony of Your wonder-working power, in Jesus’ name!”
Action Steps
- Identify Your “Narrow Bridge”:
- List 1 seemingly impossible situation
- Write: “God will enlarge this bridge on [date]”
- Study Wonders Daily:
- 1 Old Testament miracle + 1 New Testament miracle
- Create a “Wonder Jar”:
- Drop notes of future wonders expected
- Remove/add as God answers
Conclusion: Living in the Realm of Wonders
Daddy Adeboye’s life proves: With God, “narrow bridges” become platforms for glory.
“Your crisis is God’s opportunity to add another ‘Wonderful’ to His resume through your testimony.”
