OPEN HEAVEN 26 NOVEMBER 2025 TODAY DEVOTIONAL
TOPIC: LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE
MEMORISE:
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16
READ: John 9:1-7:
1 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 26 NOVEMBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE
When people claim to be good at something, they need to prove it by doing that thing remarkably well. When they do this, people will pay attention to them.
Beloved, complaining that people do not notice your talents will achieve no result. Instead, prove your abilities by doing whatever you can from wherever you are, no matter how small it may seem. Soon, people will see your light and come to the brightness of your rising (Isaiah 60:1-3).
You can be very talented; however, if you don’t work hard and use your talent, people won’t take notice. Today’s memory verse says that you should let your light shine for people to see your good works and glorify your heavenly Father. Did you notice the word ‘works’ in that verse? You must work for people to see you.
Someone showed me a newspaper article in which a reporter was making a joke about the miracles God has performed in my life. The person who showed me the article said, “Daddy, what’s your comment?” I told him that I had no comment. I don’t have any comments about such jokes because I am too busy doing God’s work, and I can’t be distracted by trivial issues.
Today’s Bible reading tells the story of a man who was born blind. When Jesus’ disciples started to debate about whose sin caused the man’s predicament, Jesus redirected their attention to what was important. He told them,
“I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” Then, He spat on the ground, made some mud out of the clay, anointed the man’s eyes, and told him to go and wash in the pool of Siloam – the blind man returned with brand-new eyes.
Jesus went about doing the work of the Father throughout His human ministry; He was so busy doing good that everywhere He went, people took note of Him and followed Him.
Beloved, when you go about doing the work of the One who sent you, you will become like a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden and a candle on a candlestick that gives light to everyone in a house (Matthew 5:14-15).
People might not like a light bulb’s design, but nobody can ignore its importance. If you want to be so relevant that people cannot do without your unique contributions, let your light shine by focusing on doing the work that God has committed into your hands.
REFLECTION
Are you allowing your light to shine by actively using your gifts?

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 26 NOVEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Matthew 5:16 (KJV)
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
This command from Jesus links the visibility of our “light” (our God-given talents, character, and testimony) directly to the tangible evidence of our “good works.” The light is not meant for private storage but for public illumination, with the ultimate goal of directing glory to God, not ourselves.
BIBLE READING: John 9:1-7
This passage is a masterclass in focusing on work over debate:
- v. 1-2: The disciples are distracted by a theological debate about the cause of the man’s blindness—a question that yields no practical help.
- v. 3-5: Jesus redirects the conversation to purpose and action: “that the works of God should be made manifest in him.” He then declares His own focus: “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day.”
- v. 6-7: Jesus takes immediate, practical action. He uses spit, mud, and a command to wash. The result is a miraculous healing that becomes a powerful testimony, silencing debate with undeniable evidence.
The Irrefutable Argument: Let Your Work Speak
Pastor E.A. Adeboye delivers a powerful, practical message on moving from potential to impact. He teaches that recognition and relevance are not gained by complaining or debating, but by a relentless focus on doing the work God has assigned, with excellence and consistency, thereby letting our light shine irresistibly.
1. The Principle of Proven Excellence
From Claim to Proof:
It is not enough to claim to be talented or anointed; one must prove it by doing the work “remarkably well.” Daddy Adeboye states that complaining about being overlooked is futile. The only effective strategy is to demonstrate your ability through undeniable results, starting from wherever you are, no matter how small the platform may seem.
The Result: Attracted Attention:
When you consistently produce excellent work, attention is a natural byproduct. This is the fulfillment of Isaiah 60:1-3: as you arise and shine, people and kings (influence) are naturally drawn to the brightness of your rising. Your work becomes your advertisement.
2. The Jesus Model: A Bias for Action
Redirecting from Debate to Doing:
While the disciples were entangled in a theoretical debate, Jesus was focused on a practical demonstration. He understood that a single act of power does more to reveal God’s nature than a thousand theological discussions. His motto was action-oriented: “I must work… while it is day.”
The Power of a Finished Work:
The formerly blind man became a walking, talking testimony. The Pharisees could debate all they wanted, but they could not refute the reality of the man standing before them with new eyes. In the same way, the tangible results of your God-assigned work will be your most powerful testimony, silencing critics and convincing observers.
3. The Posture of a Shining Light: Focused and Unbothered
Ignoring Distractions:
Daddy Adeboye’s testimony about the newspaper joke is a powerful example. He refused to be drawn into a defensive debate or be distracted by criticism. His response, “I am too busy doing God’s work,” reveals a leader who understands that engaging with every critic is a distraction from the primary mission. Your work is your focus; your results are your response.
Becoming Indispensable Through Contribution:
A light bulb may not have a glamorous design, but its importance is undeniable in a dark room. Likewise, when you focus on doing the work God has given you, you become so relevant that people “cannot do without your unique contributions.” Your value is derived from your service, not your title.
How to Let Your Light Shine Through Work
1. Start Where You Are with What You Have:
Stop waiting for a bigger platform. Identify one thing you can do with excellence today in your current role, home, or local church, and do it remarkably well.
2. Adopt the “I Must Work” Mentality:
Internalize the urgency of Jesus in John 9:4. Time is limited (“the night is coming”). Let this propel you to focused, intentional action on your God-given assignments, prioritizing doing over debating.
3. Let Your Results Do the Talking:
When faced with criticism or mockery, follow the model of Jesus and Daddy Adeboye. Do not be drawn into fruitless arguments. Quietly and consistently produce more excellent work. The evidence will eventually speak for itself and glorify God.
Warning: The Futility of an Unlit Candle
A talent that is not used is like a candle under a basket (Matthew 5:15). It provides no light, no warmth, and no guidance. Complaining about being in the dark is pointless if you are refusing to shine the light you possess. Potential unseen is potential wasted.
Conclusion: Your Work is Your Witness
Pray this:
“Heavenly Father, forgive me for times I have hidden my light or complained instead of working. Fill me with a sense of divine urgency to work the works of Him who sent me. Help me to focus on excelling in the assignments You have given me, to ignore distractions, and to let the quality of my work shine so brightly that others cannot help but see and glorify You, in Jesus’ name.”
Action Steps:
- Audit Your Output: In your area of gifting, are you known for talking about what you can do or for demonstrating it? Commit to one project this week that will serve as tangible proof of your ability.
- Memorize the Mandate: Internalize Matthew 5:14-16 and John 9:4. Let these scriptures be the driving force behind your daily productivity.
- Solve a Problem: Instead of debating a problem in your family, church, or community, take one practical step to be part of the solution. Let your action be your argument.
Remember: The world does not pay for potential; it pays for delivery. Let your life be so full of delivered excellence that your light becomes a city on a hill, impossible to ignore.
“I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” (John 9:4). This is your charge.
