OPEN HEAVEN 26 OCTOBER 2025 TODAY DEVOTIONAL
TOPIC: THE LORD IS MY VERY PRESENT HELP
MEMORISE:
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Psalms 46:1
READ: Psalms 46:1-11:
1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carriedinto the midst of the sea;
3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
6 The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.
7 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
8 Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth.
9 He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.
10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
11 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 26 OCTOBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE
Today’s memory verse emphasises the fact that God is our very present help in times of trouble. He is the God of the past, but He is also the God of the present. He can fix anything that is affecting your present as a result of mistakes you made in the past.
One of my students while I was still a lecturer at the University of Lagos, came to me some years ago. He had a problem – he was always sweating, and his sweat smelled terribly.
Nobody could sit close to him because of how bad he smelled. Different doctors had prescribed different soaps and medications to him, but the problem persisted. I was about to pray for him when God said, “No, don’t pray; he needs to make a restitution.” I told him what God said, and He made the required restitution. After the restitution, he returned to me so l could pray for him, but God said,
“There is no need; just tell him not to drink cold water for two weeks.” That was the end of the problem. Medical doctors could never have resolved this problem, but the One who is the Very Present Help went to his past, turned the situation around, and gave him a testimony.
When we say that God is very present, it means that there is nothing happening in the present that He is not aware of. It also means that He knows the best way to handle situations in the present. God’s help is always very present to those who have surrendered their lives to Him.
Isaiah 65:24 says, “And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.”
This means that even before you discover that you need help, the Very Present Help has gone ahead of you to provide solutions. I pray that you will experience more of God’s accurate and prepared help from now henceforth, in Jesus’ name.
I must, however, add that if you have not totally surrendered your life to Jesus, you cannot access His very present help. Do not be like people who boast of a past relationship with God and expect Him to help them in the present. If you are riding on past glory, it is time to renew your commitment to God. When you do this, you will then begin to enjoy His very present help.
KEY POINT
God is the very present help to those who regard Him as their Lord in the present.

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 26 OCTOBER 2025 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Psalm 46:1
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
This verse reveals God’s nature in times of crisis. He is not a distant helper but a very present one—immediately available, intimately acquainted with our situation, and perfectly capable of being our safe place (refuge) and our empowering force (strength) right when we need it most.
BIBLE READING: Psalms 46:1-11
This psalm is a powerful declaration of God’s ever-present sovereignty:
v. 1: The Promise: He is a very present help.
v. 2-3: The Scenario: Even if the entire world is in chaos, we will not fear.
v. 7, 11: The Assurance: “The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.”
v. 10: The Command: “Be still, and know that I am God…” His presence demands our trust.
The God of the Very Present Help
Pastor E.A. Adeboye uses a striking testimony to illustrate a profound truth: God’s help is not only powerful but also precise and present. He is the God of the now, capable of diagnosing and solving problems at their root, even when they are entangled with issues from the past.
The Nature of God’s “Very Present” Help
- It is Accurate: God’s help goes straight to the root cause. While doctors treated the symptom (the smell), God addressed the root: a heart issue requiring restitution. His solutions are often unexpected but always perfectly accurate.
- It is Proactive: God’s help is so present that it often arrives before we even utter the full prayer (Isaiah 65:24). He is already working behind the scenes, orchestrating solutions before we are fully aware of the depth of our need.
- It is Comprehensive: It covers every kind of trouble—physical, emotional, spiritual, or financial. Whether it’s a national crisis (“though the earth be removed” v.2) or a personal, embarrassing struggle, He is an ever-present refuge.
The Condition for Accessing This Help
This level of help is not automatic. It is reserved for those who have a right relationship with God in the present.
- Total Surrender to Jesus Christ:
You cannot access the help of a Lord you do not serve. Salvation is the entry point to this covenant of help. - A Life of Obedience and Integrity:
The testimony highlights that God required restitution before healing. Unconfessed sin and unresolved disobedience can block our access to God’s present help (Isaiah 59:1-2). A clear conscience is a conduit for His power. - A Present Relationship, Not Past Glory:
Resting on a past experience with God is insufficient. God is the “I AM,” not the “I WAS.” He requires a current, vibrant, and obedient relationship. We must daily choose to make Him our Lord.
The Result of His Help: A Fearless Life
When you know God as your very present help:
- You will not fear (v.2), no matter how chaotic the situation appears.
- You can be still (v.10), ceasing your frantic striving because you know He is fighting for you.
- You become a testimony of God’s power and wisdom, as He does things that medical, financial, or human expertise cannot achieve.
Conclusion: Your Help is Here Now
Pray this:
“God, my Refuge and Strength, I acknowledge You as my very present help. I surrender every area of my life to You today. Forgive me for any sin or lack of restitution that hinders my access to Your help. I bring my current trouble [mention it specifically] before You. I trust in Your accurate and timely solution. I choose to be still and know that You are God. Thank You for being with me and for being my safe place. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Action Steps:
- Identify the Trouble: Clearly define the specific situation where you need God’s present help.
- Conduct a Heart Check: Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any area of disobedience, unforgiveness, or need for restitution. Obey immediately.
- Claim the Promise: Memorize and declare Psalm 46:1 over your situation daily.
- Practice Stillness: Instead of worrying, deliberately enter into a time of quiet trust, affirming “The LORD of hosts is with me.”
Remember: Your help is not on the way; it is already here. God is very present in your situation. You are not alone. Your current trouble is a platform for His present help to be displayed.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1). He is with you right now.
