TOPIC: REFUEL, RECHARGE, RELOAD II
MEMORISE:
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
Jude 1:20
READ: Mark 14:32-50
32 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.
33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;
34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.
35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?
38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
39 And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.
40 And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.
41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
42 Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.
43 And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
44 And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.
45 And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.
46 And they laid their hands on him, and took him.
47 And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
48 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?
49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.
50 And they all forsook him, and fled.
RCCG OPEN HEAVENS 28 AUGUST 2026 TODAY MESSAGE
Yesterday, I mentioned that you should recharge your spiritual energy whenever you feel a hunger in your spirit. This is very important; however, you should also continue to refuel your spiritual energy even when you don’t feel a spiritual hunger so that you can be prepared ahead of any emergency.
This is what I refer to as ‘extra oil. Extra oil is the reservoir of prayers and fasting that you have previously done and the Bible verses you have memorised that will come in handy when you are suddenly faced with a challenge. That is why you should always pray, fast, and study the word of God more than you think is necessary, because on days when you need a quick spiritual surge of power, it is from the reservoir that you have built that you will quickly recharge your energy.
For example, temptations can arise on a day when you are not fully charged, and you will need strength to resist them. It is from your extra oil that the strength will come. Likewise, if danger suddenly shows up or disaster strikes, you will need to switch to a war mode quickly, and that can only happen when you have a reservoir of oil in you. In such moments, you can start by speaking in tongues. As you speak in tongues, you will draw from the extra oil in your reservoir, and before long, you will feel a surge of power, and then you will be able to solve the problem at hand. However, nothing will happen if there is no extra oil in your reservoir, even if you speak vehemently in tongues when facing a disaster.
Child of God, nobody prepares for war on a battlefield. Oftentimes, commanders and soldiers plan their battle strategies long before wars break out.
In Matthew 26:3644, the Bible recounts how Jesus spent time praying earnestly in the Garden of Gethsemane before he was arrested. While He prayed, His disciples slept; therefore, when challenges arose, they had no extra oil to draw from, so they fled. Peter denied Jesus, and all the other disciples fainted on the day of adversity because their strength was small (Proverbs 24:10).
Beloved, pray more than you think is necessary before the day of adversity comes. Prayer is never a waste. Speak in tongues often, and spend ample time in God’s presence so that when the day of adversity comes, you will have more than enough extra oil to draw strength from.
PRAYER POINT
Father, please help me to immerse myself in prayer and give myself to the study of Your word daily.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL 28 AUGUST 2026 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Jude 1:20
“But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.”
Building spiritual strength is not a one-time event—it is a continuous process. Praying in the Holy Ghost builds you up and creates a reservoir of power for times of emergency.
BIBLE READING: Mark 14:32-50
This passage records Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, praying earnestly while His disciples slept. When the hour of trial came, Jesus was prepared—but the disciples, having no extra oil, fled in fear. Peter, who had boasted of his loyalty, denied Jesus three times. Their failure was not in the moment of crisis; it was in the lack of preparation beforehand.
Extra Oil: The Reservoir of Spiritual Strength
“Yesterday, I mentioned that you should recharge your spiritual energy whenever you feel a hunger in your spirit. This is very important; however, you should also continue to refuel your spiritual energy even when you don’t feel a spiritual hunger so that you can be prepared ahead of any emergency.”
| Recharging When Hungry | Building Extra Oil |
|---|---|
| Responding to a felt need | Preparing for future emergencies |
| Essential for daily strength | Essential for sudden crises |
| Keeps you going | Keeps you standing |
“This is what I refer to as ‘extra oil.’ Extra oil is the reservoir of prayers and fasting that you have previously done and the Bible verses you have memorised that will come in handy when you are suddenly faced with a challenge.”
Matthew 25:4 – “But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.”
| Extra Oil Includes | How It Helps |
|---|---|
| Prayers you have prayed | Available when you need quick power |
| Fasting you have done | Builds spiritual stamina |
| Bible verses memorized | Available for immediate use |
| Worship and praise | Releases strength in crisis |
Why You Must Build Extra Oil
“That is why you should always pray, fast, and study the word of God more than you think is necessary, because on days when you need a quick spiritual surge of power, it is from the reservoir that you have built that you will quickly recharge your energy.”
| If You Have Extra Oil | If You Have No Extra Oil |
|---|---|
| You can handle sudden emergencies | You faint in the day of adversity |
| You have strength to resist temptation | You fall into sin |
| You can pray through the crisis | You are helpless |
The Disciples’ Failure: No Extra Oil
“In Matthew 26:36-44, the Bible recounts how Jesus spent time praying earnestly in the Garden of Gethsemane before he was arrested. While He prayed, His disciples slept; therefore, when challenges arose, they had no extra oil to draw from, so they fled.”
| What Jesus Did | What the Disciples Did |
|---|---|
| Prayed earnestly | Slept |
| Built extra oil | Had no reservoir |
| Faced the cross with strength | Fled in fear |
“Peter denied Jesus, and all the other disciples fainted on the day of adversity because their strength was small (Proverbs 24:10).”
Proverbs 24:10 – “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.”
| The Disciples’ Small Strength | The Result |
|---|---|
| They did not pray enough | They fled when tested |
| They had no extra oil | They denied their Lord |
| They slept instead of watching | They could not stand |
How to Build Extra Oil (Practical Steps)
Based on Daddy Adeboye’s teaching, here is how to build a reservoir of spiritual strength:
1. Pray More Than You Think Is Necessary
Do not pray only when you feel like it. Pray when you are tired, when you are busy, when you are already spiritually full. Build a surplus.
2. Speak in Tongues Often
Jude 1:20 – “Building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.”
Praying in tongues builds you up. Do it regularly—not just in church services. Let it be a daily discipline.
3. Fast Beyond the Bare Minimum
Do not fast only when there is a crisis. Fast regularly. Build spiritual stamina.
4. Memorize Scripture
You cannot quote Scripture in a crisis if you have not hidden it in your heart. Memorize verses now so they will be available when you need them.
5. Watch and Pray
Do not be like the disciples who slept when they should have prayed. Watch. Pray. Prepare.
Warning: Nobody Prepares for War on the Battlefield
“Child of God, nobody prepares for war on a battlefield. Oftentimes, commanders and soldiers plan their battle strategies long before wars break out.”
| The Wise Soldier | The Foolish Soldier |
|---|---|
| Prepares before the war | Waits until the battle begins |
| Builds strength in peacetime | Runs out of strength in crisis |
| Has extra oil | Has only what is needed for today |
Conclusion: Your Prayer for Extra Oil
Daddy Adeboye closes with the call to pray more than you think is necessary so that when the day of adversity comes, you will have more than enough.
Pray this:
“Lord Jesus, I do not want to be like the disciples who slept when they should have prayed. I do not want to faint in the day of adversity. Help me to build extra oil—a reservoir of prayers, fasting, Scripture, and worship. I will pray more than I think is necessary. I will speak in tongues often. I will fast regularly. I will store up Your word in my heart. When the day of trial comes, let me have more than enough to stand. In Jesus’ mighty name.”
Action Steps:
- The Extra Oil Audit: Do you have a reserve of spiritual strength, or are you living day to day? If you are running on empty, start building today.
- The Tongues Commitment: Set aside time each day to pray in tongues. Let it build you up.
- The Watch and Pray Reminder: When you feel like sleeping instead of praying, remember the disciples. Watch and pray.
