TOPIC: THE LAKE OF FIRE

8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

I was shocked when I heard someone say several years ago that he was preparing to go to hell. He even said that he wanted to take my Father in the Lord, me, and one other person along with him. The most shocking thing was that the individual who made that statement was a senior minister in the church at that time.
Today’s Bible reading lists the types of people who are already preparing to make the lake of fire their home. These people probably know God and have seen His mighty works at different times; however, they still choose to live a lifestyle that opposes His ways. I may not be able to talk about each of the types of people elaborately here, but I will comment on some of them below.
There are people who are too afraid to bear God’s name; therefore, they deny Him before men. In Matthew 10:33. Jesus said that He will also deny such people in the presence of His Father. There are also those who refer to themselves as atheists.
They claim not to believe that God exists, whereas it is untrue because they know deep within themselves that He exists. He calls out to them every now and then, and they can feel Him reaching out to them. However, they choose not to believe in Him. They don’t even want to hear God’s word or study it because they just don’t want to believe. There are also those who do abominable things, those who murder, and those who are sexually immoral. All such people who have chosen such lifestyles will go to hell if they refuse to repent.
Regardless of how saintly they may appear, their final home is in the lake of fire. Likewise, those who outrightly serve the devil, such as witches and wizards, cultists, and those who belong to associations that engage in evil acts, will also end up in the lake of fire. Lastly, liars will also suffer the same fate and end up in the lake of fire.
Beloved, I want you to honestly evaluate your life. If you discover that you fall into any of the categories of people listed in today’s Bible reading, I urge you to repent now and change your lifestyle because the lake of fire is a place of unending sorrow. I pray that when Jesus comes back to the earth, you and I will enter into paradise with Him, in Jesus’ name.

This verse is the final judgment scene of all humanity.

These verses list the categories of people who will not enter the New Jerusalem. Their portion is the lake of fire.
The Shocking Statement: “I Am Preparing to Go to Hell”
“I was shocked when I heard someone say several years ago that he was preparing to go to hell. He even said that he wanted to take my Father in the Lord, me, and one other person along with him. The most shocking thing was that the individual who made that statement was a senior minister in the church at that time.”

A senior minister. A leader in the church. Someone who should have been preparing for heaven, preparing for the New Jerusalem, preparing to see Jesus. Instead, he was preparing for hell. This is a sobering warning: your position in the church does not guarantee your position in heaven.
The Categories of Those Destined for the Lake of Fire

Knowing about God is not enough. Seeing miracles is not enough. Being a church member is not enough. If your lifestyle opposes God’s ways, you are preparing for the lake of fire.
The Fearful: Those Who Deny Christ Before Men
“There are people who are too afraid to bear God’s name; therefore, they deny Him before men. In Matthew 10:33, Jesus said that He will also deny such people in the presence of His Father.”

God does not leave Himself without witness. Every atheist has felt His call. Every unbeliever has sensed His presence. But they choose to suppress the truth. They choose unbelief. And unbelief leads to the lake of fire.
The Sexually Immoral: Those Who Defile God’s Design
“There are also those who do abominable things, those who murder, and those who are sexually immoral. All such people who have chosen such lifestyles will go to hell if they refuse to repent.”
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 – “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.”

You can dress well, speak well, and act well in public—but if you are living in sexual immorality in secret, you are preparing for hell. God sees. God knows. And God will judge.
Sorcerers, Cultists, and Evil Associations
“Likewise, those who outrightly serve the devil, such as witches and wizards, cultists, and those who belong to associations that engage in evil acts, will also end up in the lake of fire.”

There is no middle ground. You cannot serve God and the devil. You cannot belong to both the church and a cult. You cannot worship on Sunday and consult a witch doctor on Monday. Choose this day whom you will serve.
Liars: The Surprising Category
“Lastly, liars will also suffer the same fate and end up in the lake of fire.”
Revelation 21:8 lists “all liars” alongside murderers and the sexually immoral. Lying is not a small sin. It is not a “white lie.” God hates lying.

How to Ensure Your Name Is in the Book of Life (Practical Steps)
Based on Daddy Adeboye’s teaching and Revelation 20:15, here is how to avoid the lake of fire and secure your place in paradise:
1. Confess and Repent of Sin
If you fall into any of the categories above, do not delay. Confess your sin to God. Repent—turn away from it completely. Do not excuse it. Do not minimize it. Do not hide it.
2. Believe in Jesus Christ
John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Your good works cannot save you. Your church attendance cannot save you. Only faith in Jesus Christ can write your name in the Book of Life.
3. Live a Lifestyle of Holiness
Do not just “believe” and continue in sin. True faith produces a changed life. Flee from sexual immorality. Stop lying. Renounce the occult. Refuse to deny Christ. Live as a citizen of heaven, not as a friend of the world.
4. Witness Boldly, Not Fearfully
Do not be ashamed of the gospel. Do not hide your faith to avoid mockery. Jesus said that if you deny Him before men, He will deny you before the Father. Be bold. Be courageous. Bear His name.
5. Make Your Calling and Election Sure (2 Peter 1:10)
Do not assume you are safe. Examine yourself. Test yourself. Make sure your name is written in the Book of Life. Do not wait until judgment day to find out.
Warning: The Lake of Fire Is Real and Eternal
Daddy Adeboye’s devotional carries a terrifying warning: the lake of fire is not a scare tactic. It is real. It is eternal. It is unending sorrow.

“Lord Jesus, I come before You with a trembling heart. I have read the list of those who will not inherit Your kingdom. I have seen the categories of people whose portion is the lake of fire. I examine myself today. Have I been fearful, denying Your name before men? Have I been unbelieving, hardening my heart against Your truth? Have I been sexually immoral, lying, idolatrous, or involved in any abominable thing? Forgive me. Cleanse me. Wash me in Your blood. I repent of every sin. I turn away from every lifestyle that opposes Your ways. Write my name in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Do not let me be among those cast into the lake of fire. I want to enter paradise with You. I want Daddy Adeboye to see me there. Prepare me. Keep me. And when You return, receive me unto Yourself. In Jesus’ mighty name.”
Action Steps:
- The Self-Examination: Go through the eight categories in Revelation 21:8. Be brutally honest. Are you guilty of any? If yes, do not wait. Confess and repent today.
- The Book of Life Check: Ask yourself: If I died today, would my name be found in the Book of Life? If you are not sure, settle it today. Surrender your life to Jesus fully.
- The Lifestyle Change: Identify one sin from the list that you have been tolerating. Commit to cutting it off completely today. Not tomorrow. Not next week. Today.
