RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 29 SEPTEMBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE

A Christian who refuses to grow spiritually will be controlled by what he or she should be in control of. Such a Christian will beg to have things that should ordinarily be in his or her possession.

Until you grow spiritually, there is a limit to what God can trust you with. Hence, you must take personal responsibility for your spiritual growth. Don’t depend on your pastors to do what you should do by yourself.

Any Christian who does not grow spiritually will be ill prepared to face the storms of life. He or she will be unable to take on responsibilities in God’s kingdom and will be at the mercy of every satanic attack.

When giving out important assignments, God will always bypass a spiritual baby for a more mature believer. This is why it is important for you to pay the price for spiritual growth. You need to consistently feed on the word of God and spend time in His presence.

Many years ago, when nobody lived at the Redemption Camp (now Redemption City), I would leave my house in Mushin, a suburb of Lagos every Tuesday morning and stay at the camp until Thursday morning. Apart from me, the only other people at the camp were the carpenters who were involved in the ongoing construction work.

However, they would stop as soon as it was dark and retire for the day, leaving me alone to seek God’s face with all my heart all night. One night – I remember that night like it was yesterday – I prayed: “Father, I surrender all. It is only You that I want. I don’t want to be an ordinary pastor. I am not asking for gold, clothes, or fame. I just want You to empower me to do this work. If You’re not going to do it, please take me away.”

That day, God answered my prayers, and there was a tremor in the camp that was felt as far as in Ijebu Ode, a town that is over 60 kilometres away. When you desire to grow spiritually, God will visit you in mighty ways that will shake your world for good.

Beloved, what is hindering your spiritual growth? Have you become too busy chasing after worldly pleasures? Have the cares of this life choked your love for God? Strive to continually grow spiritually so that you will not be tossed to and fro by the devil’s tricks (Ephesians 4:14).

PRAYER POINT

Father, please help me to deal with everything hindering me from growing spiritually, in Jesus’ name.

HYMN 23: TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 29 SEPTEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY

MEMORISE: Galatians 4:1 (KJV)
“Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;”
This verse powerfully illustrates the consequence of spiritual immaturity. An heir may legally own everything, but if they remain a “child” in understanding and character, they cannot access or manage their inheritance. They live like a servant, begging for what is rightfully theirs. This is the state of a believer who refuses to grow.

BIBLE READING: 1 Peter 2:1-3 (KJV)
“1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, 2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.”
This passage outlines the prerequisites and the means for spiritual growth. Growth requires first laying aside sinful habits that stunt development. Then, it requires a desperate, craving desire (“as newborn babes”) for the pure, unadulterated Word of God, which is the essential nutrient for spiritual maturation.

The Tragedy of the Stagnant Believer

Daddy Adeboye’s message is a sobering wake-up call against spiritual complacency. A Christian who refuses to grow remains a spiritual infant, controlled by the very things they should dominate—sin, circumstances, emotions, and demonic attacks. They live in poverty of spirit, power, and authority, “begging” for victories, breakthroughs, and peace that are already their inheritance in Christ.

The Limit of God’s Trust

The devotional introduces a crucial principle: God’s level of trust in us is directly proportional to our spiritual maturity. He will not entrust significant kingdom assignments, spiritual authority, or great resources to a believer who has not demonstrated the character and wisdom to handle them. Immature believers are bypassed for promotions, both in the spiritual realm and often in the natural, because they are unprepared for the responsibility and the attacks that come with greater influence.

The Personal Responsibility for Growth

A central theme is the individual’s responsibility. Spiritual growth is not the pastor’s job; it is the believer’s duty. Pastors are given to equip the saints, but the saint must actively engage in the process of being equipped (Ephesians 4:11-12). This involves two non-negotiable activities:

  1. Consistently feeding on the Word of God: This is the “sincere milk” and later the “solid food” (1 Corinthians 3:2) that builds spiritual muscle and discernment.
  2. Spending time in His presence: This is where character is refined, intimacy is built, and power is received.

The Price of Power: A Personal Testimony

Daddy Adeboye’s testimony from the early days of the Redemption Camp is the ultimate illustration of paying the price for growth. His sacrifice—leaving family, staying alone in a barren land, praying all night—was driven by a desperate cry for more of God, not more of God’s things. His prayer, “I surrender all… I just want You to empower me,” is the model prayer for spiritual growth. It is a prayer of total surrender and single-minded desire for God’s power alone. The tangible result—a supernatural tremor—shows that God responds to such desperate hunger with tangible manifestations of His presence and power.

The Hindrances to Growth

The devotional concludes by prompting self-examination. Spiritual growth is hindered by:

  • Worldly Pleasures: Chasing temporal satisfaction over eternal substance.
  • The Cares of This Life: Allowing anxieties and daily burdens to choke out time and passion for God (Matthew 13:22).
These things leave a believer unstable and vulnerable, “tossed to and fro” by every new doctrine, temptation, or trial.

Pray this:
“Heavenly Father, I repent for my spiritual complacency. Forgive me for living like a servant when I am an heir to Your kingdom. I lay aside every weight and sin that hinders my growth. Today, I take responsibility for my spiritual development. I crave the pure milk of Your Word like a newborn baby. I hunger for Your presence above all else. I surrender all to You. I don’t just want Your blessings; I want You. Empower me for Your service. Shake my world with Your presence and launch me into a new dimension of spiritual maturity and authority. I refuse to be a child any longer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Action Steps:

  1. Conduct a Growth Audit: Honestly assess your spiritual life. Are you still struggling with the same sins, fears, and failures as years ago? This indicates stalled growth.
  2. Create a Feeding Schedule: Commit to a daily, non-negotiable time of Bible reading and prayer. Start with 15 minutes and gradually increase.
  3. Identify and Remove a Hindrance: What is one worldly pleasure or care that is choking your spiritual life? Take concrete steps to reduce or eliminate it.
  4. Pray the Prayer of Surrender: Model your prayers after Daddy Adeboye’s. Tell God you want more of Him, not just more from Him.
  5. Seek Accountability: Share your growth goals with a mature believer and ask them to check on your progress.

Remember: Your spiritual maturity is your personal responsibility. God has provided everything you need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3), but you must diligently add to your faith. Don’t live beneath your privilege as an heir. Pay the price in the secret place so you can walk in power in the public place. Your growth determines your governance. Choose to grow today.
