OPEN HEAVEN 20 NOVEMBER 2025 TODAY DEVOTIONAL

TOPIC: ALLOW THE HOLY SPIRIT

MEMORISE:
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Genesis 1:2

READ: Numbers 11: 10-23, Numbers 11: 30-32:

Numbers 11: 10-23:
10 Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent: and the anger of the Lord was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased.
11 And Moses said unto the Lord, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?
12 Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?
13 Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
14 I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.
15 And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.

16 And the Lord said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee.
17 And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.
18 And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the Lord, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore the Lord will give you flesh, and ye shall eat.
19 Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;
20 But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the Lord which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?

21 And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.
22 Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them?
23 And the Lord said unto Moses, Is the Lord’S hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.

Numbers 11: 30-32:
30 And Moses gat him into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.
31 And there went forth a wind from the Lord, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day’s journey on this side, and as it were a day’s journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.
32 And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.

RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 20 NOVEMBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE

Today’s memory verse tells us that the Holy Spirit moved over the surface of the earth before creation began. The world that was empty and void soon became full of life after the Holy Spirit moved over it.

Any area of your life, such as your career, academics, ministry, marriage, or others that you give the Holy Spirit freedom to operate in, will become full and lively.

Many Christians claim to be led by the Spirit; however, they are the ones trying to lead the Holy Spirit. They think they have the best strategies for success, and some of them even depend solely on consultants or experts to tell them what to do instead of the Holy Spirit.

Many years ago, I was constantly praying about church growth, and I attended many conferences. I tried everything I was taught in those conferences, but nothing happened. In fact, it came to a point where we were practically begging people with food to come to church – we called it Care Fellowship.

People would come, collect the food, and return to their homes, never to be seen again.

Frustrated, I told God in prayer, “Lord, there must be something missing.” He replied, “The Holy Ghost”

In today’s Bible reading, the Israelites complained to Moses that they wanted meat. Moses reported the matter to God, and God said, “I will give them so much meat that they will be fed up.” The next day, the wind blew and there were quails on the floor all around the camp of the Israelites.

Sometimes, when you read about the wind in the Scriptures, it is referring to the Holy Spirit. The wind directed millions of quails to the camp of the Israelites such that all they had to do was to pick them up.

When God directed me to read this passage after I asked Him about the growth of the church, I told Him, “I don’t understand. What has this got to do with church growth?” He said, “Let the Holy Spirit blow, and people will come; you wouldn’t even need to go looking for them. They will be so many that you won’t have room to contain them.” That day, I let go of all my strategies and depended solely on Him, and before long, the church started growing.

Beloved, give the Holy Spirit complete access to every area of your life. He will remove the things that are contrary to God’s will and ensure that you walk in favour and abundance.

PRAYER POINT

Holy Spirit, I give You complete access to every area of my life.

HYMN 27: WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 20 NOVEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY

MEMORISE: Genesis 1:2 (KJV)
“And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”
This foundational verse reveals the Holy Spirit as the active Agent who brings order, life, and fruitfulness out of chaos and emptiness. His “moving” is the prerequisite for all divine creation and transformation, turning what is formless and void into a place teeming with purpose and abundance.

BIBLE READING: Numbers 11:10-23, 30-32
This passage provides a powerful Old Testament type of the Holy Spirit’s provision:

  • v. 10-15: Moses is overwhelmed by the people’s complaints and his own inability to provide meat, lamenting to God that the burden is too heavy.
  • v. 16-17: God’s solution involves sharing the Spirit that is upon Moses with seventy elders.
  • v. 18-23: God promises meat for a full month, so much that it will become loathsome. Moses questions the logistics, and God reaffirms His power.
  • v. 30-32: The method: “And there went forth a wind from the LORD” that brought quails from the sea, covering the camp. The people gathered them in immense abundance.

The Divine Strategy: Letting the Wind Blow

Pastor E.A. Adeboye delivers a paradigm-shifting message on divine strategy versus human effort. Using a powerful personal testimony of ministerial failure and frustration, he teaches that true success and abundance are not achieved through our best-laid plans, but by yielding to the sovereign movement of the Holy Spirit.

1. The Prerequisite for Transformation: The Spirit’s Movement

From Chaos to Creation:
The state of the earth in Genesis 1:2—”without form and void”—is a picture of any area of life that lacks purpose, order, or fruitfulness. This can be a career, a marriage, a ministry, or personal finances. The Holy Spirit’s movement over that “chaos” is the non-negotiable first step toward life and abundance.

Giving Him Free Access:
The key is to consciously “give the Holy Spirit freedom to operate.” This is an act of surrender, where we acknowledge that our own efforts to structure and fill that void have failed and that only His creative touch can bring lasting change.

2. The Failure of Human Strategy

Leading the Spirit Instead of Being Led:
Daddy Adeboye identifies a common error: believers who claim to be Spirit-led are often trying to lead the Holy Spirit, presenting Him with their own “best strategies” and asking Him to bless them. This reliance on consultants, experts, and human methods, while not inherently bad, becomes idolatrous when it replaces dependence on God.

The “Care Fellowship” Syndrome:
His testimony is a humbling example. Despite praying, attending conferences, and implementing pragmatic methods like offering food (“Care Fellowship”), the church did not grow. The result was a transactional, temporary engagement with people, not transformational growth. This is the ultimate end of human strategy devoid of the Spirit’s power.

3. The Divine Solution: The Wind of the Spirit

The Quail Principle:
In the Numbers 11 account, God did not tell Moses to organize hunting parties or build quail farms. He sent a wind that supernaturally brought the provision directly to the people’s doorstep. The people’s role was simply to gather what the wind had provided.

The Application to Church Growth and Life:
God’s revelation to a frustrated Daddy Adeboye was revolutionary: “Let the Holy Spirit blow, and people will come; you wouldn’t even need to go looking for them.” The strategy shifted from “begging people to come” to creating an atmosphere through prayer and holiness where the Holy Spirit could “blow,” drawing people supernaturally and creating an abundance of souls.

How to Yield to the Holy Spirit’s Movement

1. Acknowledge the Emptiness and Let Go:
The first step is the prayer of frustration: “Lord, there must be something missing.” Be honest about the areas of your life that remain “without form and void” despite your best efforts. Then, consciously let go of your strategies.

2. Invite the Spirit to Move Anew:
Pray specifically over each chaotic or barren area: “Holy Spirit, move over my career, my marriage, my finances. I give You complete access. Bring order and life where there is chaos and emptiness.”

3. Shift from Striving to Gathering:
Stop exhausting yourself trying to manufacture breakthroughs. Instead, focus on being sensitive and ready to gather and steward what the Holy Spirit supernaturally brings to your doorstep. Your primary work becomes prayer and obedience, not stressful striving.

Warning: The Exhaustion of Self-Reliance
Relying solely on human strategy leads to burnout and frustration, as exemplified by Moses and a younger Daddy Adeboye. It is a burden God never intended us to carry. It produces short-term, superficial results that cannot be sustained and often leaves us feeling distant from God.

Conclusion: Entering His Rest and Abundance

Pray this:
“Holy Spirit, I confess I have tried to lead and have relied on my own understanding. Today, I surrender every formless and void area of my life to You. Move over my chaos. Blow Your wind of revival, provision, and divine direction. I let go of my strategies and depend solely on You. Bring the abundance You have promised, and give me the grace to gather it, in Jesus’ name.”

Action Steps:

  • Identify Your “Void”: Name one area of your life (e.g., a relationship, a project, your spiritual life) that feels chaotic, stuck, or empty. Write it down and present it to God in prayer.
  • Fast from “Strategy”: For one week, refrain from making new plans or consulting new experts for that area. Dedicate that time instead to prayer and worship, asking only for the Holy Spirit’s direction.
  • Study the Wind: Read Scriptures where the “wind” (ruach/pneuma) represents the Holy Spirit (Ezekiel 37:9-10, John 3:8, Acts 2:2). Ask God to make this reality vivid in your spirit.

Remember: Your role is not to create the quails, but to prepare the camp and gather them when the wind of the Spirit blows. True success is not the fruit of your labor, but the fruit of your surrender to His movement.

“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing…” (John 6:63). Your surrender to the Spirit is the gateway to all meaningful profit.
