35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 27 SEPTEMBER 2026 TODAY MESSAGE
Storms can come in various forms and with varying degrees of intensity. I recall an incident some years ago, when I was travelling from Lagos to London on a plane. When we were about to land at Heathrow Airport, the captain informed us that there was a problem with the door at the belly of the aircraft, and we all understood it to mean that the landing gear wouldn’t be able to function, and in essence, the pilot was going to have to crash-land the plane.
There was a storm on the plane at that moment because confusion and pandemonium broke out all around me. That day, I discovered that rich people do not want to die. I recall seeing a very wealthy man in the first-class cabin who carried a walking stick that was encrusted with diamonds at the top. Since we departed Lagos, he had been getting up, pretending to go to the toilet every now and then to show everyone his expensive walking stick.
However, when he heard the captain’s announcement, he really needed to use the toilet.
I tell you with confidence that even if you are anointed, you will become frightened if you are told that your plane cannot land. Therefore, I turned to God and said, “Daddy, I embarked on this journey to do Your work. You didn’t tell me when I was leaving to say goodbye to my family that it would be the last time I would see them.” Then He replied, saying, “Don’t worry, son. I’m only delaying the plane’s landing because as soon as you land, people will not let you rest, and I need to talk to you first.” God’s word brought peace to my heart, and the plane continued to circle around the airport while God was speaking to me. When He finished talking to me, the faulty door opened, and the plane was able to make a normal landing.
Despite how tough the situation was, I was at peace because God had spoken to me.
Beloved, when you have an intimate relationship with the Prince of Peace, you will not be troubled by the things that trouble others. You will not run helter-skelter at the hint of trouble because His word will bring peace to your heart. No matter how terrible a situation may be, there is always peace to be found in God’s word. Turn to His word in such instances, and it will keep your heart at peace while turning things around for the better.

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 27 SEPTEMBER 2026 COMMENTARY
The scripture passage in Mark 4:35-39 takes us right onto a ship in the middle of a violent, raging storm. The wind is howling, and the waves are beating so hard against the vessel that it is rapidly filling with water. In the midst of this absolute terror, Jesus is in the back of the boat, fast asleep on a pillow. Panicked and convinced they are about to drown, the disciples shake Him awake, crying out, “Master, carest thou not that we perish?”. With supreme, quiet authority, Jesus arises, rebukes the wind, and commands the sea, “Peace, be still”. Instantly, the wind ceases, and a great calm falls over the water. He then gently challenges their fear and lack of faith, leaving them in utter awe of His power.
Heathrow Flight Testimony
To show us that storms are not just ancient stories, Pastor Adeboye shares a remarkably raw, personal testimony. He recalls a flight he took from Lagos to London. As they prepared to land at Heathrow Airport, the captain announced that there was a technical problem with the door at the belly of the aircraft, which meant the landing gear could not function and they would have to crash-land the plane.
Instantly, absolute chaos, confusion, and pandemonium broke out. Pastor shares a sobering yet humorous observation about a very wealthy first-class passenger who had spent the flight walking up and down just to show off his expensive walking stick encrusted with diamonds. The moment the threat of a crash-landing was announced, the man’s pride vanished, and he had to rush to the toilet out of sheer fear.
Daddy honestly admits that even if you are highly anointed, you will feel frightened when told your plane cannot land. In that moment of intense panic, Pastor Adeboye turned to God and prayed: “Daddy, I embarked on this journey to do Your work. You didn’t tell me when I was leaving to say goodbye to my family that it would be the last time I would see them.”.
God’s voice immediately responded to his heart: “Don’t worry, son. I’m only delaying the plane’s landing because as soon as you land, people will not let you rest, and I need to talk to you first.”. That simple word from God filled Pastor’s heart with perfect peace. While the rest of the cabin was in a panic, Daddy was perfectly calm as the plane circled and God spoke to him. Once God finished speaking, the faulty door opened, and the plane made a normal, safe landing.
Relating This to Your Everyday Life
We all face sudden “belly door issues” in our everyday lives. You might receive a financial report, a sudden career setback, or a worrying medical diagnosis that makes you feel like your life is about to crash-land. Panic is our natural human reaction.
However, as Pastor teaches us, when you share an intimate relationship with the Prince of Peace, you will not run helter-skelter when trouble strikes. You find an anchor in His Word. No matter how terrible a situation may be, there is always peace to be found when God speaks to you.
To deepen our understanding of this divine anchor, let us look at two scriptures not found in this devotional:
- Isaiah 26:3: “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” True peace is about where you fix your focus. If you focus on the failing landing gear, you will panic; if you focus on God’s voice, you will rest.
- Philippians 4:6-7: Apostle Paul instructs us to be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let our requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds.
Action Steps
- Prioritise the Relationship: Ask yourself the reflection question Daddy raises: Do you have an intimate relationship with the Prince of Peace? Make daily fellowship your highest priority so you can recognize His voice in a crisis.
- Talk to God First: When a storm hits, do not join in the surrounding pandemonium. Like Pastor Adeboye, immediately turn to God and state your case.
- Let Peace Rule Your Heart: According to Colossians 3:15, let His peace act as an umpire in your decisions. If a path is stripping you of your peace, pause and seek His direction.
Prayer Points
- Father, I thank You with all my heart because You are the Prince of Peace, and I praise You for Your constant protection and Your promise to never leave me in the storms of life, in Jesus’ name.
- Lord Jesus, forgive me for every time I have allowed fear and panic to dominate my heart instead of trusting in Your word, in Jesus’ name.
- Father, walk into every “crash-landing” situation in my finances, health, and family today, and declare Your sovereign “Peace, be still,” in Jesus’ name.
- Lord, let Your voice of comfort silence every terrifying noise of panic and confusion around my life, in Jesus’ name.
- Father, grant me the grace to build and maintain a deep, intimate relationship with You, so that Your word will always anchor my soul in times of trouble, in Jesus’ name.
- Lord, expose and destroy every root of pride in my heart; let me never trust in earthly wealth or temporary “diamond walking sticks” which fail in the day of trouble, in Jesus’ name.
- Father, let Your perfect peace guard my heart and mind daily, and let every delayed breakthrough in my life work out for my ultimate good and promotion, in Jesus’ name
