TOPIC: BEFORE THE MOUNTAINS
MEMORISE:
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
Psalm 90:2
READ: Daniel 3:14-30
14 Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?
15 Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?
16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.
17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
19 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.
20 And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.
21 Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
22 Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.
25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire.
27 And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.
28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.
29 Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.
30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in the province of Babylon.
RCCG OPEN HEAVENS 8 OCTOBER 2026 TODAY MESSAGE
There is no limit to God’s power. Mark 11:22-24 says that if you have faith, you can speak to a mountain, and it will move. Today’s memory verse also tells us that before the mountains were brought forth, God was. Our God is eternal, and there is no searching of His understanding. If you have faith in the One who was there even before mountains were formed, He can uproot any challenge that poses as a mountain in your life.
There are, however, times when you speak to a mountain in your life, and it doesn’t seem to move. This is because God knows that you can climb that mountain and emerge victorious. God will not place a mountain which you cannot climb before you. When you read the book of Job, you will see that long before Job’s problems came, God already knew that he would overcome them.
Beloved, God will not make you go through a challenge you cannot overcome. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says: “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” If God allows a mountain to stand in your path, it is because you are about to experience a greater level of glory. For example, it is expected that students will typically be assessed before they are promoted to a higher level or class.
In today’s Bible reading, the three Hebrew boys passed their test by refusing to bow down to the golden image, even at the risk of being burned to death, and God promoted them. Job 42:12-16 also tells us how God promoted Job after his ordeal. I am sure that the devil would have wished he had left Job alone, as the latter part of his life was more glorious than his beginning.
Child of God, if God allows you to face a mountain, it is because He wants to move you to the next phase of your life after you overcome that mountain. No matter the size or height of the mountain standing before you today, ask God to help you to surmount it, and you will emerge victorious in the end. I decree that you shall overcome all mountains standing before you today, in Jesus’ name.
PRAYER POINT
Father, please help me to overcome every mountain standing before me, and grant me the grace to emerge victorious, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 8 OCTOBER 2026 COMMENTARY
Today’s devotional, “Before the Mountains,” reminds us that our God is eternal — He existed before the mountains were formed. And if He was there before the mountains, He can move any mountain standing in your life today.
But Daddy also reveals a deeper truth: sometimes God doesn’t move the mountain because He knows you can climb it. The mountain is not there to destroy you — it is there to promote you.
1. God Is Older Than Every Mountain
Psalm 90:2 tells us that before the mountains were brought forth, God was. He is from everlasting to everlasting. Mark 11:22-24 says that if you have faith, you can speak to a mountain, and it will move.
If you have faith in the One who existed before mountains were formed, He can uproot any challenge posing as a mountain in your life.
Your problem may look huge. It may feel immovable. But it is not older than God. It is not bigger than God. The One who spoke the mountains into existence can speak to your mountain and command it to move.
2. Sometimes God Wants You to Climb, Not Move
Sometimes you speak to a mountain, and it doesn’t seem to move. Why? Because God knows you can climb it and emerge victorious. God will not place a mountain you cannot climb before you.
An example is Job. God will not make you go through a challenge you cannot overcome.
1 Corinthians 10:13 says: “God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
3. The Mountain Is a Setup for Promotion
If God allows a mountain to stand in your path, it is because you are about to experience a greater level of glory. Students are assessed before they are promoted to a higher class. In the same way, God tests you before He promotes you.

Job 42:12-16 tells us how God promoted Job after his ordeal — the latter part of his life was more glorious than his beginning.
Your current trial is not your final chapter. It is the examination before your promotion.
4. Two Scriptures for Deeper Understanding
Isaiah 43:2 — “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”
God does not promise that you will not go through the water or the fire. He promises that He will be with you in it, and the fire will not burn you.
2 Corinthians 4:17 — “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.”
Your affliction is light and momentary compared to the glory it is producing. The weight of your trial is nothing compared to the weight of your glory.
Relating This to Your Everyday Life
We all face mountains — sickness, financial struggle, marital conflict, barrenness, delay, rejection, betrayal. And we all want them removed. But what if God is saying, “I know you want Me to move it — but I’m going to help you climb it”?
He is not punishing you. He is preparing you. He is not ignoring you. He is strengthening you.
Daddy says: No matter the size or height of the mountain before you today, ask God to help you surmount it, and you will emerge victorious in the end.
The mountain will not defeat you. It will promote you.
Action Steps
1. Identify Your Mountain and Bring It to God — Write down the biggest challenge facing you right now. Then pray over it and ask God: “Should I speak to it, or should I climb it?” Trust His answer.
2. Stop Focusing on the Size of the Mountain — Shift your focus from the problem to the Problem-Solver. Spend time worshipping God today, declaring that He is older than your mountain.
3. Ask for Grace to Climb — If the mountain hasn’t moved yet, pray: “Lord, give me strength to climb this mountain and come out victorious on the other side.”
Prayer Points
- Father, I thank You because You are from everlasting to everlasting. You were before the mountains, and You will be after them. I bless Your holy name, in Jesus’ name.
- Lord, forgive me for doubting You when my mountains didn’t move. Forgive me for focusing on the problem instead of the Problem-Solver, in Jesus’ name.
- Father, help me to trust You whether You move the mountain or help me climb it. Strengthen my faith in every season, in Jesus’ name.
- Lord, give me the grace to climb every mountain before me. When the fire is hot and the trial is long, sustain me by Your Spirit, in Jesus’ name.
- Father, don’t let me give up before my promotion. Let me pass every test and come out stronger, purer, and more like You, in Jesus’ name.
- Lord, let every mountain in my life become my gateway to glory. Turn my trials into testimonies and my struggles into promotion, in Jesus’ name.
- Father, I decree today: every mountain standing before me shall not overwhelm me. I will overcome and emerge victorious, in Jesus’ name.
