    TOPIC: SPIRITUAL EYES II

    MEMORISE:

Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.
    Psalm 119:18

    READ: 2 Kings 6:15-23:

15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
18 And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the Lord, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
19 And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.

20 And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, Lord, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the Lordopened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.
21 And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?
22 And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.
23 And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.

RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 12 SEPTEMBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE

Today, I will conclude my discussion on spiritual eyes as part of the series I started three days ago.

In today’s Bible reading, an army came to arrest Elisha, and his servant became afraid.

Elisha, however, was not bothered; he told his servant that those who were with them were more than those who were against them. He then prayed that God should open his servant’s eyes. Even though the boy wasn’t physically blind and could see the Syrian army, his spiritual eyes needed to be opened so he could see God’s mighty army surrounding them.

..And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. 2 Kings 6:17

After God opened the spiritual eyes of Elisha’s servant, his fear of the Syrian army must have disappeared immediately. Elisha then asked God to smite the Syrian soldiers with blindness, and he led them to the king’s palace. He wasn’t holding any weapon, neither did he bind the soldiers; he just told them to follow him, and because they had become blind, they followed him into their enemy’s territory. They would have lost their lives that day if Elisha had not stopped the king from killing them. He was able to arrest the soldiers who came to arrest him because he could see beyond the physical.

In 1 Samuel 17, Israel was being tormented by Goliath. The torment went on for 40 days and nights because there was no one on the battlefield whose spiritual eyes were opened.

They all saw a formidable giant, but David came to the battlefield and saw Goliath as a dead man. David said to him, “I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. Today, I will cut off your head and feed the Philistine army to the birds so that the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel” (1 Samuel 17:45-46).

Beloved, what you see with your spiritual eyes will go a long way in determining if you will live as a victim or a victorious believer. If you have surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, spend quality time in constant fellowship with Him. As you do this, I pray that the Lord will open your spiritual eyes. If, however, the Lord has already opened your spiritual eyes, I pray for greater revelations for you, in Jesus’ name.

    REFLECTION

    Are your spiritual eyes open?

    BIBLE IN ONE YEAR

    Daniel 6-8

HYMN 8: I Need Thee Every Hour

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 12 SEPTEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY

    MEMORISE: Psalm 119:18 (KJV)
“Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.”
This prayer of the psalmist is the heart cry for spiritual illumination. It acknowledges that the Bible contains depths of revelation that remain hidden to the natural mind. It is a request for the Holy Spirit, the author of Scripture, to act as our divine teacher, unveiling the “wondrous things”—the profound truths, promises, and strategies—that are embedded within God’s Word.

BIBLE READING: 2 Kings 6:15-23 (KJV)
This narrative perfectly illustrates the tension between natural sight and spiritual vision. The servant saw only the threatening Syrian army, a reality that produced overwhelming fear. Elisha saw the superior heavenly host, a reality that produced unshakable peace and authority. The pivotal moment is the prayer for opened eyes. When the servant’s spiritual sight was activated, his fear vanished because his perspective was permanently altered by a greater truth.

The Transformative Power of Spiritual Perspective

Daddy Adeboye uses this concluding devotional to demonstrate the practical, life-altering consequences of spiritual sight. The key interpretation is that your perspective determines your experience. The servant and Elisha were in the exact same physical circumstance, yet one was terrified and the other was triumphant. The difference was not their location, but their revelation. What you see in the spirit dictates whether you live as a victim of your circumstances or as a victor over them.

From Defense to Offense: The Authority of Sight

The story doesn’t end with the servant’s fear being relieved. Elisha’s opened eyes gave him not just comfort, but command. He moved from a defensive posture (being surrounded) to an offensive one (leading his captors captive). His prayer for the enemy to be struck with blindness was an act of spiritual authority that flowed from his spiritual perception. He understood that the battle was won in the spiritual realm before any physical action was taken. This teaches that opened spiritual eyes grant believers the authority to disarm and confuse the strategies of the enemy, turning their attacks into opportunities for God’s glory.

David vs. Goliath: A Case Study in Conflicting Realities

The account of David and Goliath is presented as another powerful example of two clashing perspectives. For 40 days, the Israelite army saw a “formidable giant.” Their spiritual eyes were closed, so they saw only his size, his strength, and his weapons. They interpreted the situation through the lens of their own ability and were defeated before the fight began.
David, however, saw a “dead man.” His spiritual eyes were open, so he saw Goliath’s defiance of God, his impending defeat, and the glory God would receive. He interpreted the situation through the lens of God’s ability and ran toward the battle. The giant was the same; the difference was what each party sawwith their spiritual perception.

The Pathway to Sustained Spiritual Sight

The devotional concludes with the essential prerequisites for maintaining opened spiritual eyes:

    1. Surrender to Christ: This is the foundational step. A spirit that is not alive in Christ cannot perceive the things of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:14).
    2. Quality Fellowship with God: Spiritual sight is not a one-time gift but a continually sharpened sense. It is cultivated through consistent, unhurried time in prayer, worship, and meditation on God’s Word. The more we gaze upon Him, the clearer our spiritual vision becomes (2 Corinthians 3:18).

    A Prayer for Revelation

The closing prayer is twofold: for those who have not yet seen, that their eyes would be opened, and for those who have, that they would receive “greater revelations.” This indicates that spiritual sight has degrees. We can always see more, understand more, and perceive more of the infinite depths of God.

    Pray this:
“Lord God, I echo the prayer of the psalmist: Open my eyes! I am tired of seeing only with natural vision. I want to behold the wondrous things in Your Word and the supernatural realities around me. baptize my vision with Your light. When I face overwhelming circumstances, help me to see Your chariots of fire. When I confront giants, help me to see their defeat. Holy Spirit, be my teacher and my guide. Sharpen my spiritual senses through constant fellowship with You until my default perspective is Your heavenly perspective. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

    Action Steps:

    1. Pray for Sight Daily: Make Psalm 119:18 your daily prayer before reading the Bible. Ask the Holy Spirit to highlight specific truths and show you their application.
    2. Analyze Your Perspective: When you feel fear, anxiety, or defeat, ask yourself: “What am I seeing right now? What is the natural reality?” Then pray, “Lord, show me Your spiritual reality in this situation.”
    3. Declare What You See: Like David, begin to verbalize the spiritual reality you discern. Declare God’s victory over your challenges, not based on your feelings, but based on the unseen truth He shows you.
    4. Cultivate Fellowship: Block out daily and weekly time for deep, uninterrupted fellowship with God. This is not about a rushed devotion, but about lingering in His presence to see His face.

Remember: The battlefield of life is first won or lost in the realm of sight. Your natural eyes will always show you the enemy’s army and the giants. Your spiritual eyes, when opened by the Holy Spirit, will always show you the victory already secured by the Lord of Hosts. Choose which reality you will believe. Choose to see the invisible, and you will do the impossible.

    Hebrews 11:27

    READ: 2 Kings 2:1-15:

1 And it came to pass, when the Lord would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
2 And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the Lord hath sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.
3 And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Lord will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.
4 And Elijah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the Lord hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.
5 And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Lord will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.

6 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the Lord hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.
7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.
8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.
9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.

11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
    13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;
14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the Lord God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.
15 And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 11 SEPTEMBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE

Over the past two days, I have discussed two of the three kinds of eyes that humans have: physical eyes and mental eyes. Today, I will be discussing the third kind of eyes: spiritual eyes.
Your spiritual eyes give you the ability to see the invisible.

And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so. 2 Kings 2:9-10

In the Scripture above, Elisha requested for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit. Elijah replied,

“Your request will be granted if you can see me when I am being taken away from you.” What he actually meant was, “If your spiritual eyes can be opened to see the invisible, you will get what you have asked for.” When the chariots of fire descended from heaven, Elisha saw them and cried, “My Father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof”
    (2 Kings 2:12).

God must have said, “His spiritual eyes are opened; he can have what he wants”. When your spiritual eyes become open, your destiny also opens up.

In 2 Kings 6:15-23, the Syrian army surrounded Elisha’s house; his servant saw them and was terrified. He ran to tell Elisha about the situation, and Elisha prayed that God would open his spiritual eyes. After he prayed, God opened his servant’s eyes, and the fellow who was scared became courageous because he could now see the invisible.

…And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. 2 Kings 6:17

When God opens your spiritual eyes, you’ll be able to see beyond the physical realm, and you’ll have a better understanding of the divine power that backs you up as a Christian. If God has been using you before, this will further strengthen your faith and empower you to do more exploits for His kingdom.

For this to happen, you must be born again, and your spirit must be better fed than your body. This can be done by praying, studying God’s word, fasting, worshipping intensely, and fellowshipping with other believers consistently.

    PRAYER POINT:

Father, please open my spiritual eyes so l can know You more.

    BIBLE IN ONE YEAR

    Daniel 4-5

HYMN 19: ROCK OF AGES CLEFT FOR ME

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 11 SEPTEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY

    MEMORISE: Hebrews 11:27 (KJV)
“By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.”
This verse captures the essence of spiritual sight. Moses’s courageous actions were not based on an analysis of the visible circumstances (Pharaoh’s army, Egypt’s power). They were fueled by a superior reality: he saw the invisible God. Faith, therefore, is the lens through which the spiritual eyes perceive and interact with the unseen realm, making it more real than natural threats.

BIBLE READING: 2 Kings 2:1-15 (KJV)
This passage details the transition of prophetic authority from Elijah to Elisha. The pivotal moment occurs in verses 9-12. Elisha’s request for a “double portion” was a request to become Elijah’s primary spiritual heir (Deuteronomy 21:17). Elijah’s condition—”if thou see me when I am taken from thee”—was the test. It was not a test of his physical vision, but of his spiritual perception. To see the spiritual dimension of Elijah’s translation was to prove he possessed the depth of spirit necessary to wield the mantle he requested.

    The Faculty of Spiritual Perception

Daddy Adeboye culminates his series on the “three eyes” with the most crucial: the spiritual eyes. This is the God-given capacity to perceive spiritual realities—angels, demons, the glory of God, and divine strategies—that are active but invisible to the natural senses. It is the ability to see as God sees, to understand the supernatural context of natural events.

    The Key to Unlocking Destiny

The story of Elisha is presented as the ultimate case study. The commentary interprets Elijah’s condition profoundly: the opening of Elisha’s spiritual eyes was the direct key to unlocking his destiny. His request was not granted because he was a good follower, but because he saw. This establishes a vital kingdom principle: Your spiritual perception determines your portion. Many believers are praying for a “double portion” of anointing, breakthrough, or blessing but are not cultivating the spiritual sight necessary to receive and steward it. Destiny is unlocked in the realm of the spirit before it manifests in the natural.

From Fear to Faith: The Practical Power of Spiritual Sight

The account of Elisha and his servant in 2 Kings 6 provides the practical application. The servant was terrified because his reality was defined solely by what he could see with his physical eyes: a vast enemy army. Elisha was calm because he saw with his spiritual eyes: a vaster heavenly host. The prayer, “LORD, open his eyes,” is a model intercession for every believer trapped in fear and anxiety. The interpretation is clear: Fear is a spiritual blindness; faith is spiritual sight. When our spiritual eyes are opened, our perspective shifts from the magnitude of our problem to the infinitely greater magnitude of our God.

    The Source of Unshakable Confidence

A believer who sees the invisible chariots of fire understands the “divine power that backs [them] up.” This knowledge is what produces unshakable confidence and empowers “exploits” for God (Daniel 11:32). It moves God from a theological concept to a tangible, present reality. This is why the enemy works overtime to keep Christians spiritually blind—because a seeing Christian is a dangerous, fearless, and effective Christian.

    How to Cultivate Spiritual Sight

The devotional concludes with the necessary conditions for opened spiritual eyes:

    1. The New Birth (Salvation): A sinful, unregenerate spirit is dead to God and cannot perceive spiritual things (1 Corinthians 2:14). The spirit must be made alive in Christ.
    2. Spiritual Nourishment: The spirit man must be “better fed than your body.” This is a call to prioritize:
      • Prayer: Communion with God that sharpens spiritual senses.
      • Studying God’s Word: The primary lens through which we learn to see truth.
      • Fasting: A discipline that weakens the flesh and sensitizes the spirit.
      • Worship: Engaging with God’s presence, which is the atmosphere of heaven.
      • Fellowship: Iron sharpening iron with other spirit-filled believers.

    Pray this:
“Father, I desire to see the invisible. Forgive me for living by sight and not by faith. I ask today, as Elisha prayed for his servant, ‘LORD, open my eyes!’ Let my spiritual perception be awakened to the angelic hosts that surround me, to the strategies of heaven for my life, and to the reality of Your glorious presence. Help me to feed my spirit more than my flesh. May I walk not in fear of what I see in the natural, but in the bold confidence of what I see in the spirit. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.”

    Action Steps:

    1. Pray the Elisha Prayer Daily: Make “LORD, open my eyes” a daily prayer before you read the Bible or face a challenging situation.
    2. Practice Spiritual Discernment: After prayer, be still and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what He is doing in your circumstances. Journal anyScripture, picture, or impression He brings to mind.
    3. Prioritize Your Spirit’s Diet: This week, consciously choose to spend more time in prayer and the Word than you do on entertainment or leisurely meals.
    4. Declare What is Unseen: Like Moses, start making decisions based on the invisible God. Verbally declare God’s promises over your situation, affirming that the spiritual reality is more true than the natural one.

Remember: The greatest realities are unseen. Your natural circumstances are a shadow; the spiritual truth is the substance. Cultivate your spiritual sight, for it is the gateway to your destiny and the source of unconquerable faith. When you see Him who is invisible, you will forsake every Egypt and fear no king.

RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 10 SEPTEMBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE

Besides physical eyes, I believe that every human has mental eyes, which the Bible refers to as the eyes of understanding. In Ephesians 1:18, Paul said,
“I pray that the eyes of your understanding be enlightened.”
In other words, he was saying, “I pray that your eyes of understanding be opened.”

The eyes of your understanding are very important. According to Deuteronomy 1:13, understanding is one of the major requirements for becoming a leader. Hence, to be an effective leader, you must have understanding and the eyes of your understanding must be fully opened.

This was why Solomon asked God for an understanding heart to lead His people (1 Kings 3:9). The state of the mental eyes is what makes the difference between people who are highly educated, moderately educated, or illiterate.

I worked as a tutor at Ondo Boys High School in South- Western Nigeria before enrolling for my undergraduate studies. In those days, there were 40 class periods per week, and I was made to teach 36 of them. I worked alongside a university graduate who had to teach for only 23 class periods every week, yet he always complained that the school was overstretching him. My salary was about 15 pounds a month, while his salary was 60 pounds a month. I was surprised about his complaints because he was earning about four times more than I was earning, even though he was teaching fewer class periods than I was.

One day, I asked him, “Why are you complaining? You have fewer periods to teach compared to me.” He replied, “I am not being paid for what I do now. I am being paid for the work I had done on my brain in the past.” My understanding could not be compared to his because I only

had a secondary school certificate while he had a university degree, so we were paid differently, based on our levels of understanding.

If you want to be successful, your mental eyes need to be opened. You need to study hard and try new things to get better outcomes. A wealthy man once said that the more you learn, the more you earn. Someone else said that readers are leaders. Those who will be great in life value learning more than entertainment; therefore, they keep on learning. The day you decide that there is nothing more to learn, your mental eyes will begin to go dim.

Beloved, the more you learn, the more the eyes of your understanding receive light. Therefore, make up your mind never to stop learning.

    REFLECTION

    Do you truly value learning?

    BIBLE IN ONE YEAR

    Daniel 1-3

HYMN 33: GUIDE ME, O THOU GREAT JEHOVAH!

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 10 SEPTEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY

    MEMORISE: Proverbs 15:14 (KJV)
“The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.”
This verse draws a stark contrast between the wise and the foolish based on what they pursue. A person with an understanding heart has an insatiable appetite for knowledge, recognizing it as the fuel for wisdom and growth. In contrast, a fool consumes and is consumed by triviality and nonsense. The pursuit defines the person.

    BIBLE READING: Ephesians 1:15-23 (KJV)
This passage contains one of Paul’s most profound prayers for the Church. He does not pray for their circumstances to change but for their internal perception to be transformed. The key verse (v.18) is a plea to God: “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know…” This highlights that true knowledge is not merely intellectual acquisition but a spiritual revelation granted by God. It is about seeing the hope of our calling, the riches of our inheritance, and the greatness of God’s power—realities that are true whether we perceive them or not.

The “Mental Eyes”: The Gateway to Effective Living

Daddy Adeboye introduces the concept of the “eyes of your understanding” or “mental eyes.” This is the faculty of the mind that processes information, gains insight, perceives truth, and applies knowledge. It is the difference between simply seeing data and truly comprehending its meaning and implications. The devotional establishes that these mental eyes are not automatic; they must be “opened” and “enlightened” through deliberate effort and divine grace.

    Understanding: The Non-Negotiable for Leadership

The interpretation grounds the need for understanding in the practical realm of leadership. Deuteronomy 1:13 and Solomon’s request in 1 Kings 3:9 are cited to prove that God Himself prioritizes understanding over all other natural gifts for those who will lead. A leader with a closed understanding cannot discern God’s will, make wise judgments, or navigate complex situations. Therefore, seeking enlightenment for the mind is not a secular pursuit but a spiritual necessity for fulfilling God-given assignments.

The Principle of Investment and Reward

The personal anecdote from Daddy Adeboye’s teaching career is the core illustration of the devotional’s message. It presents a powerful spiritual and natural law: You are paid (rewarded) for the past work you have done on your brain. The university graduate was compensated for the investment he had made in his “mental eyes” through years of study. This explains why two people can do the same physical work but receive vastly different rewards—the value is in the mental capital and capacity they bring to the task. God rewards diligence, and diligent study is a form of faith in action, preparing the mind to be a useful vessel for God.

    The Lifelong Pursuit of Light

The devotional makes a clear connection: Learning = Light. The more you learn, the more the “eyes of your understanding receive light.” This light dispels the darkness of ignorance, limitation, and foolishness. It is a continuous process. The moment a believer stops learning—whether it’s studying the Word of God, acquiring new skills, or understanding the world around them—their mental eyes begin to “go dim.” They become less effective for God’s kingdom and susceptible to error and deception. The call to “never stop learning” is a call to remain humble, teachable, and ever-expanding in capacity.

    Beyond Secular Knowledge: Spiritual Enlightenment

While the application includes general knowledge, the primary context, based on the Ephesians prayer, is spiritual understanding. The ultimate goal is not just to earn more money but to know God more—to comprehend the hope, inheritance, and power that are already ours in Christ. A mind enlightened by the Holy Spirit can grasp spiritual truths that are foolishness to the natural man (1 Corinthians 2:14). This divine enlightenment is what transforms information into transformation.

    Pray this:
“Heavenly Father, I pray as Paul did for the Ephesians: enlighten the eyes of my understanding. Pour out upon me a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You. Open my mind to comprehend the hope of my calling, the riches of my inheritance in the saints, and the exceeding greatness of Your power toward me. Give me a hunger for knowledge and the discipline to study and learn continually. Make me a lifelong student of Your Word and Your world, that I may be a effective leader and a wise steward of all You have given me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

    Action Steps:

    1. Commit to Daily Study: Dedicate uninterrupted time each day not just to read, but to study the Bible with a commentary or concordance to deepen understanding.
    2. Identify a Learning Goal: What one skill or area of knowledge would make you more effective in your career, ministry, or personal life? Enroll in a course, read a book, or find a mentor in that area.
    3. Audit Your Input: Are you “feeding on foolishness” (e.g., gossip, frivolous entertainment, negative media) or “seeking knowledge”? Intentionally replace one source of foolishness with a source of edifying knowledge.
    4. Pray for Enlightenment: Before you study anything—especially the Bible—pray Ephesians 1:17-18 over yourself, asking the Holy Spirit to be your teacher and to open your understanding.

Remember: Your mental capacity is a gift from God to be developed for His glory. The investment you make in your mind today determines the impact you will have for the Kingdom tomorrow. Don’t just work hard; work smart by filling your mind with light. For it is with the mind that we serve and understand the Lord (Romans 7:25).

    TOPIC: YOUR EYES

    MEMORISE:

I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: 1 hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.
    Psalm 101:3

    READ: Matthew 6:22-23:

22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 9 SEPTEMBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE

I believe that humans have three kinds of eyes: physical l eyes, mental eyes, and spiritual eyes. Over the next few days, I will discuss these kinds of eyes.

Your physical eyes are the two eyes that you use to see physical objects and the world around you. According to today’s Bible reading, they are the light of the body and are so important that Jesus restored the sight of every blind person that came to Him asking for sight during His earthly ministry.

In Bartimaeus’ case, He spoke His word, and that word supplied two brand-new eyes (Mark 10:46-52). In the case of the man in John 9:1-7, He released His anointing into ordinary mud, and from that mud, He created two brand-new eyes. In Mark 8:22-26, He touched a man who was blind twice. The first time He touched him, the man said that he could see men looking like trees. This wasn’t good enough for Jesus, so He touched him again. When you go through the Scriptures, you will discover that instance was the only time Jesus touched anybody for their healing twice. I am sure Jesus did this to show the importance of the physical eyes.

If anyone reading this devotional has problems with their physical eyes, I decree that God will touch such a person today, in the name of Jesus Christ.

Since your physical eyes are the light of your body, what you see with them will determine the state of your body. If you want your body to be full of light, you will not look at things that come from the kingdom of darkness. You won’t watch certain movies or view certain pictures as they can quench the light in you and make you live in darkness. The devil is after your eyes because he knows that if he can darken them, he has succeeded in darkening your body, which is the temple of the Lord. Don’t let him succeed; look away from things that can bring darkness. Flee from every appearance of evil (1 Thessalonians 5:22).

Samson was greatly helped by God, and God used him to achieve mighty things. However, the moment he began to fix his gaze on the wrong things, he opened himself to the enemy’s attack. The enemy removed his eyes, and he was plunged into darkness because he became careless with his eyes (Judges 14-16).

Beloved, be careful of what you fix your gaze on, and don’t give the enemy a chance to plunge you into darkness.

    KEYPOINT

Do not expose yourself to things that can plunge you into darkness.

    BIBLE IN ONE YEAR

    Ezekiel 47-48

HYMN 34: YIELD NOT TO TEMPTATION

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 9 SEPTEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY

    MEMORISE: Psalm 101:3 (KJV)
“I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.”
This verse is a powerful personal covenant of consecration. It is a proactive decision to guard the gates of the soul by controlling what the eyes behold. The psalmist declares a hatred for evil works and a determination not to let them adhere to his life. This establishes the principle that what we look at has the power to define and defile us.

    BIBLE READING: Matthew 6:22-23 (KJV)
“22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!”
Jesus teaches that the eye is not merely a receptor but a conduit that illuminates or darkens the entire inner man. A “single” eye (Greek: haplous) means sound, clear, focused, and generous—fixed on God and His kingdom. An “evil” eye (Greek: ponēros) is one that is diseased, malicious, envious, or focused on wickedness. The condition of the eye directly determines the condition of the soul.

The Primacy and Power of Physical Sight

Daddy Adeboye begins a series on the “three eyes” by focusing on the physical, establishing its God-given importance. He highlights that Jesus never refused a request for physical sight, demonstrating God’s desire for wholeness in this area. The commentary on the different methods Jesus used (a word in Bartimaeus’s case, clay in John 9, a double touch in Mark 8) shows that God is not limited to one way of healing and that He is meticulous in ensuring our sight is complete and perfect. This underscores that caring for our physical eyes and seeking God’s healing for them is a valid and important faith pursuit.

The Eye as the Gateway to the Soul

The central interpretation of this devotional is that the physical eyes are a primary gateway for spiritual influence. The principle from Matthew 6:22-23 is that what we allow through our eyes will fill our entire being. If we feed our eyes with light (God’s word, purity, beauty, righteousness), our inner man will be illuminated, full of God’s life and clarity. Conversely, if we feed our eyes with darkness (pornography, violence, covetousness, sin), that darkness will permeate our thoughts, emotions, and eventually, our actions, plunging our spiritual life into profound obscurity.

The Enemy’s Strategy and Our Defense

The devotional sounds a critical alarm: the devil specifically targets the eyes because he knows they are a strategic entry point. His goal is to “darken” them, thereby darkening the temple of the Holy Spirit (our body). The example of Samson is a sobering case study. His downfall began not when Delilah cut his hair, but when he first “saw” a Philistine woman (Judges 14:1) and later “saw” Delilah (Judges 16:4). He was careless with his gaze, and it led to his eyes being gouged out—a physical manifestation of the spiritual darkness he had already entered. His story is a warning that unguarded vision leads to captivity and loss of purpose.

    The Call to Radical Consecration

The application is a call to intentional and radical custody of the eyes. It moves beyond a suggestion to a command: “Flee from every appearance of evil” (1 Thessalonians 5:22). This means:

    • Proactive Avoidance: Making a covenant like Psalm 101:3 to “set no wicked thing” before our eyes. This involves curating what we watch, what we read, and what we look at online or in media.
    • Immediate Rejection: When evil appears unexpectedly, we must train ourselves to “look away” instantly, refusing to let the image take root.
    • Positive Engagement: Actively filling our vision with things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable (Philippians 4:8).

    Pray this:
“Lord Jesus, You are the light of the world. I ask that You would touch my physical eyes right now, healing any defect and granting me perfect sight. But more importantly, Lord, be the guardian of my gaze. Give me the strength and discipline to turn my eyes from looking at worthless things (Psalm 119:37). I make a covenant today, like the psalmist, to set no wicked thing before my eyes. Holy Spirit, alert me when my gaze wanders into darkness. Let my eyes be single, focused on You, so that my whole body may be filled with Your light. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray. Amen.”

    Action Steps:

    1. Conduct an Audit: Review your media consumption—TV shows, movies, social media feeds, websites. Do they contain “appearances of evil” you need to flee from?
    2. Install Guards: Use accountability software on your devices. Commit to the “bounce rule”—immediately closing any webpage or turning off any show that causes you to stumble.
    3. Fill with Light: Intentionally schedule time to watch anointed sermons, listen to worship music, or behold God’s creation in nature to feed your spirit light.
    4. Practice Looking Away: Train your reflex. When an inappropriate image or scene appears, consciously and immediately avert your eyes and utter a short prayer (e.g., “Jesus, help me”).

Remember: Your vision is a gift and a gateway. You cannot always control what flashes before your eyes, but you can always control what you focus on and feed your soul. Every glance is a choice between light and darkness. Choose light, so that the lamp of your body will not be darkness, but will radiate the brilliant light of Christ for all to see.

    TOPIC: VISION

    MEMORISE:

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he
    Proverbs 29:18

    READ: Habakkuk 2:1-3:

1 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
2 And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 8 SEPTEMBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE

Today’s memory verse says that where there is no vision, the people perish. The rich fool in Luke 12:15-21 died because he told his soul to rest and pursue nothing. A lack of vision kills; when you’re pursuing a goal, your youth is renewed with each passing day.

Sometime ago, I told some of my older friends that we are not old men because Joel 2:28 says that the old men shall dream dreams while the young ones will see visions. Since my older friends and I still have visions that we are pursuing, we are young.

Beloved, it is not enough to have a vision; you must also pursue it. Some people can talk so passionately about their vision today, but when you see them again three years from now, you will discover that they are still talking about the vision but have not taken any step to fulfil it. If you ask them why, they will give all sorts of excuses.

People who have a vision they truly believe in don’t let anything stand in their way. Obstacles tremble when a man of vision approaches them.

When God gave us the vision of the RCCG campground, we did not have the money, but that did not stop us from taking steps towards getting the land. We overcame that obstacle, and not long after that, another obstacle arose: there was no water in the camp that could support thousands of people.

That also did not deter us, and we kept forging ahead. Before long, we had more than enough water.

The reason many people haven’t seen their visions come to pass is that they are not doing anything to fulfil them. To fulfil a vision, you have to make moves first, and when you do, God will carry you towards the vision. Only a fellow who pursues his or her vision will hear it speak. When God spoke to Habakkuk in today’s Bible reading, He instructed him to write the vision so that at the appointed time, it would speak. When you start taking steps in the direction of the vision God has given you, your vision will speak, and many will hear it.

Has God shown you something? Get to work; don’t give room for excuses. God wants to give your vision a voice that can speak life to nations, but until you do something about what you have seen, your vision will remain silent.

    KEY POINT

God is willing to carry you towards your vision. However, you need to make moves towards your vision.

    BIBLE IN ONE YEAR

    Ezekiel 44-46

HYMN 32: TO THE WORK! TO THE WORK! WE ARE SERVANTS OF GOD

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 8 SEPTEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY

    MEMORISE: Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)
“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, is happy.”
This verse establishes vision as a non-negotiable element for life, purpose, and survival. The word “perish” here translates from the Hebrew “para,” which means to let go, be unbridled, to run wild, or to cast off restraint. Without a vision—a God-given goal, purpose, or revelation of the future—a person or a people drift aimlessly, waste resources, and ultimately decay. Vision provides direction, constraint, and motivation. It is the spiritual compass that guides and preserves.

    BIBLE READING: Habakkuk 2:1-3 (KJV)
“1 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. 2 And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. 3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”
This passage provides God’s instruction manual for handling a vision. It involves:

    • Expectant Posture (v.1): Positioning oneself to hear from God.
    • Clear Documentation (v.2): Writing the vision down makes it tangible, clear, and communicable.
    • Patient Perseverance (v.3): Understanding that visions have an “appointed time” for fulfillment and require faithful waiting and working.
    • Inherent Power (v.3): A true God-given vision will eventually “speak”—it will manifest with undeniable evidence and impact.

Vision as the Antidote to Stagnation and Death

Daddy Adeboye powerfully interprets the “rich fool” parable (Luke 12:15-21) as a death caused by a lack of vision. The man’s error was not his wealth, but his decision to “rest, eat, drink, be merry”—to cease pursuing a greater purpose. The devotional posits that the passionate pursuit of a goal is what renews vitality and keeps one spiritually and mentally young, regardless of biological age. This is a profound spiritual principle: purpose fuels life.

The Critical Leap from Vision to Action

The core message of this devotional is the stark difference between having a vision and pursuing it. Many people are “vision-talkers” but not “vision-walkers.” They can eloquently describe their dreams but have no progress to show for them, often masked by excuses. True, God-given vision is characterized by an unstoppable force within the believer. Obstacles become challenges to be overcome through faith and action, not reasons to quit. The RCCG campground story is a practical testimony: the vision was so compelling that the lack of funds and water were not stop signs but merely problems to be solved on the path to fulfillment.

How a Vision Gains Its Voice

The most crucial interpretation is drawn from Habakkuk 2:3: the vision will “speak.” This means a fulfilled vision has a testimony; it declares the faithfulness and power of God to all who see it. However, the devotional clarifies that the vision only begins to “speak” when the visionary begins to “run” (Habakkuk 2:2). Our action gives the vision its voice. Every step of faith, every obstacle overcome, every prayer prayed, and every foundation laid is a word in the sentence that your vision will eventually proclaim to the world. Without action, the vision remains silent, a private dream that never impacts the world.

    The Call to Relentless Pursuit

The application is a direct charge against excuse-making and procrastination. God has shown you something? “Get to work.” The responsibility for the first move lies with the believer. God’s promise is that when we move, He will carry us toward the vision. He provides the water, but we must first step out in faith to secure the land. This is the partnership of divine sovereignty and human responsibility.

    Pray this:
“Father, forgive me for every time I have been a hearer and speaker of vision but not a doer. I renounce the spirit of procrastination and excuse-making. Holy Spirit, ignite in me a holy restlessness to pursue the vision You have placed in my heart. Grant me divine strategies, unwavering courage, and relentless perseverance to take the first step and every step after. I declare that my vision will not perish but will come to life and speak forth Your glory to the nations. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

    Action Steps:

    1. Write It Down: If you haven’t already, obey Habakkuk 2:2. Clearly write down the vision God has given you. Be specific.
    2. Identify the First Step: What is one concrete, actionable step you can take this week toward that vision? (e.g., research, make a phone call, save a specific amount, start a course).
    3. Eliminate One Excuse: Identify the most common excuse you use (no money, no time, not ready) and counter it with a Scripture promise (e.g., Philippians 4:19, Ephesians 5:16, Isaiah 6:8).
    4. Share with an Accountability Partner: Tell a mature believer your vision and your first step. Ask them to check on your progress, creating external motivation to move.

Remember: A vision without action is a daydream. Action without a vision is a nightmare. But a vision with action can change the world. Your movement is the breath that gives your vision a voice. Stop talking about it. Start being about it. Run, so that those who read your life can see the vision clearly and glorify your Father in heaven.

For with God nothing shall be impossible.
    Luke 1:37

    READ: Ezekiel 37:1-10:

1 The hand of the Lord was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones,
2 And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry.
3 And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord God, thou knowest.
4 Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.
5 Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:

6 And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
7 So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone.
8 And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was no breath in them.
9 Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord God; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.
10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.

RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 7 SEPTEMBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE

Several years ago, we held a Holy Ghost Service at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos. During the service, the Lord said that there was somebody in the congregation who had only one kidney because the other one had been removed through surgery. The Lord further said that the remaining kidney was not in good condition, so He would give the person two brand-new kidneys. If I had not recognized the voice of God, I wouldn’t have dared to tell the congregation what I heard. A man in the congregation knew that the Lord was talking about him because one of his kidneys had been surgically removed, and the other one was not functioning properly.

On Saturday morning, as soon as the programme was over, he went straight to the hospital where the surgery to remove his kidney was done and asked the surgeon to examine him. The surgeon said, “I remember your case; the day we were removing your kidney, everything went wrong.

The surgery that was supposed to take less than an hour lasted eight hours.” When the surgeons examined him, they found two brand-new kidneys.

When God, who is the God of hope (Romans 15:13), steps into a case, that case changes its status from ‘hopeless’ to ‘testimony’.

God gives victory over hopelessness. For example, in Genesis 18:9-14, when He told Abraham that Sarah would have a son in nine months, Sarah laughed because she thought the situation was hopeless. However, the Almighty God, who could have said, “Because you laughed, I cancel what I have said,” did not change his mind. Instead, He said, “You can laugh as much as you like, but Isaac will be born.”

Beloved, if you have considered your situation as hopeless before now, I have good news for you today. In the name that is above every other name, your Isaac will be born.

There is no hopeless case with God. Jeremiah 32:27 says, “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?”

In Ezekiel 37:1-10 the Bible tells us that the Almighty God caused dry bones to live again. They were not just dead bodies; they were very dry bones. Yet, the Lord God caused His servant to prophesy, and the dry bones came back to life.

Beloved, the God who made dry bones to live again can take care of your situation. Men may have written you off, but with God, nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37).

    KEY POINT

God specialises in turning impossible and hopeless situations around.

    BIBLE IN ONE YEAR

    Ezekiel 41-43

HYMN 25: THE GREAT PHYSICIANS NOW IS NEAR

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 7 SEPTEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY

    MEMORISE: Luke 1:37 (KJV)
“For with God nothing shall be impossible.”
This verse is the absolute, non-negotiable foundation of the Christian’s hope. It was spoken by the angel Gabriel to Mary to explain the virgin birth, an event that defies all natural laws. It establishes that God’s ability is not limited by human logic, scientific probability, or historical precedent. What is impossible in the realm of man is merely an opportunity for demonstration in the realm of God.

    BIBLE READING: Ezekiel 37:1-10 (KJV)
This passage is the ultimate biblical metaphor for hopelessness. The prophet Ezekiel is set down in a valley full of bones that were not just dead, but “very dry.” This signifies a state beyond natural recovery—total, irreversible desolation by human standards. God’s command to “prophesy upon these bones” was a divine test of faith, asking Ezekiel to speak life into a situation that screamed of death. The resulting miracle—the bones coming together, being covered with sinews and flesh, and receiving breath—proves that God specializes in resurrecting things that men have given up on.

The God of the “Hopeless” Case

Daddy Adeboye opens with a powerful modern-day testimony that mirrors the Ezekiel account. The man with one failing kidney was in a medically hopeless situation. The devotional interprets this story to show that:

    • God’s Knowledge is Specific: God didn’t just see a sick man; He knew the exact surgical history and the current failing state of the remaining organ. This reveals that no detail of our hopeless situation is hidden from Him.
    • God’s Power is Creative: He didn’t just heal the existing kidney; He created two brand new ones ex nihilo (out of nothing), just as He did in creation. This shows that His solutions are not limited to repairing the old; He can start entirely anew.
    • God’s Purpose is Testimony: The man’s immediate trip to the doctor was to get verification, turning a medical file into a testimony. This is God’s pattern: He allows situations to become hopeless so that His intervention will be undeniable and bring Him maximum glory.

From Laughter to Legacy: The Isaac Principle

The devotional uses the story of Sarah (Genesis 18:9-14) to address a common human response to hopelessness: cynical disbelief. Sarah’s laugh represented a heart that had accepted its barrenness as a permanent reality. The profound interpretation here is that God’s promise is not nullified by our disbelief. His faithfulness is based on His character, not our confidence. The statement, “You can laugh as much as you like, but Isaac will be born,” is a powerful declaration that human emotion does not veto divine decree. The “Isaac” symbolizes any God-given promise that seems delayed or impossible—a child, a healing, a breakthrough, a restoration.

    The Anatomy of a Turnaround

The message provides a biblical blueprint for how God reverses hopelessness:

    1. Divine Revelation (Ezekiel 37:1-3): God first reveals the situation in its full hopelessness and asks, “Can these bones live?” This question is meant to shift our focus from the problem to His Person.
    2. Prophetic Obedience (Ezekiel 37:4, 7, 9-10): God’s instruction is to “prophesy”—to speak His word over the dead situation. This represents praying the promises of God, declaring His will, and standing on His word even when there is no visible evidence.
    3. Supernatural Intervention (Ezekiel 37:10): The breath (Hebrew ruach—wind, spirit, breath) comes from the four winds. This signifies a holistic, complete work of the Holy Spirit that brings life, order, and strength where there was only death and chaos.

    The Invitation to Believe

The core application is a call to transfer our trust from the prognosis of man to the promise of God. The devotional makes it clear that “hopeless” is not a divine classification; it is a human conclusion. The God who created the universe from nothing, gave a child to a post-menopausal woman, and resurrected a valley of dry bones, remains the same today. To write off any situation as hopeless is to impose human limitation on an unlimited God.

    Pray this:
“Almighty God, I come before You today, acknowledging that my situation is impossible for man but possible for You. I renounce every spirit of doubt, fear, and hopelessness that has taken root in my heart. Right now, I speak Your word over my dry bones: ‘LIVE!’ I prophesy to my ‘Isaac’ to be born. I declare that You are the God of all flesh, and nothing is too hard for You. I stand on Luke 1:37 and believe for a creative miracle in my life. Let my story become a testimony of Your power for all to see. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray. Amen.”

    Action Steps:

    1. Identify Your “Dry Bones”: Name the specific situation in your life that feels hopeless and dead.
    2. Find God’s Promise: Search the Scriptures for a promise that contradicts your hopeless reality (e.g., Jeremiah 32:27 for impossibility, Philippians 4:19 for need, Psalm 103:3 for healing).
    3. Prophesy Daily: Speak that Scripture over your situation daily, out loud, as an act of faith and obedience, just as Ezekiel did.
    4. Prepare for Testimony: Act in faith as if God has already answered. Like the man with new kidneys, get ready to verify and testify of God’s goodness.

Remember: Your hopeless situation is simply the stage upon which God intends to display His greatest miracle. Men write off what they cannot fix, but God is glorified in what only He can do. Do not bury your Isaac; prophesy to it. Do not abandon your valley of dry bones; command life into them. With God, nothing is ever impossible.

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
    John 1:5

    READ: Mark 10:46-52:

46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.
47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.
48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.

49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 6 SEPTEMBER 2025 TODAY PRAYER

When God created the world in Genesis 1:1-31, the first thing He made was light. This is because when light is present, it becomes easy to put every other thing in place.

In today’s Bible reading, a blind beggar called Bartimaeus was crying desperately for the attention of Jesus Christ. He was living in the bondage of poverty and was likely a lonely man who had nobody to help him. His case seemed to be a hopeless one simply because he could not see. When Jesus asked him what he wanted, he asked for the ability to see. He could have asked for money and clothes, but all he asked for was the ability to see light.

Your ability to see, including physically and spiritually, is far more beneficial than money and clothes.

When God’s light comes, every form of darkness and sorrow disappears. The question now is, how can you let the light of God into your life? Jesus said in John 8:12 that He is the Light of the world. If you let Jesus into your life, His light will shine in you and chase out every form of darkness. He will shine so much in you that you will begin to shine on others.

This is why He said in Matthew 5:14 that you are the light of the world. Through you, darkness will leave your family, and everyone who comes in contact with you will benefit from the light you carry. Before I became born again, there were curses and sorrows in the Adeboye family. However, after the Light – Jesus Christ – came into my life, every generational curse was broken. Poverty and sorrows were also banished forever.

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17

Beloved, no matter how potent the generational curses or forces of darkness that might be holding you back are, once you surrender your life to Jesus Christ, all things will become new and His light will drive darkness away from you. If you are, however, not yet born again, please say the following prayer:

Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I have been living in darkness. Now, I am ready for Your light. Please, come into my life and make me a new creature in You. I denounce every sin l used to commit (mention all), and I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You, Jesus.

    PRAYER POINT

Father, please let Your light shine over everything that concerns me, in Jesus’ name.

    BIBLE IN ONE YEAR

    Ezekiel 39-40

HYMN 23: TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 6 SEPTEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY

    MEMORISE: John 1:5 (KJV)
“And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”
This profound verse declares the absolute supremacy of Christ, the Light, over all forms of darkness—be it sin, sickness, poverty, or spiritual blindness. The darkness cannot “comprehend” or “overcome” this Light. This means the forces of evil cannot understand it, extinguish it, or successfully resist its penetrating power. Where the Light is invited and given place, darkness must flee.

    BIBLE READING: Mark 10:46-52 (KJV)
This passage is the powerful account of Bartimaeus, a blind beggar. His physical condition of blindness directly resulted in his life of poverty, desperation, and social isolation. His story is a physical representation of a spiritual reality. His persistent cry, “Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me,” demonstrates a spark of spiritual insight—he recognized Jesus as the Messiah. When Jesus asked what he wanted, his request for sight was a request for the fundamental tool needed to change his entire existence.

    The Primacy of Light

Daddy Adeboye begins by grounding his message in the Genesis creation account. God’s first creative command was, “Let there be light.” The interpretation is that light is the foundational necessity for order, life, and purpose. Without it, chaos (“without form, and void”) reigns. This establishes a principle: before God can bring order to the chaos of our lives, His light must first be introduced. Our problems persist because we are trying to arrange our lives in the dark.

Bartimaeus: A Case Study in Prioritizing Light

The devotional uses Bartimaeus to teach a critical lesson in spiritual priority. Bartimaeus could have asked for the symptoms of his problem: money, food, or clothes. Instead, he asked for the solution to the root cause: his blindness. He understood that the ability to see was more valuable than any temporary relief. His faith was not just in Jesus’ ability to give him things, but in His power to transform his capacity. This teaches us to ask God for the light of revelation, wisdom, and spiritual sight rather than just asking Him to fix our immediate circumstances. With light, we can see the solutions ourselves.

    The Light is a Person

The commentary powerfully identifies the source of this light: Jesus Christ Himself (John 8:12). Letting light into your life is not an abstract concept; it is the personal acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. He is the agent of creation who commanded the first light, and He is the agent of redemption who commands light into our dark situations. When He enters a life, He brings His inherent, darkness-dispelling nature with Him.

    The Transformative Result of Light

The devotional provides two transformative outcomes of receiving this Light:

    1. Internal Transformation (2 Corinthians 5:17): Daddy Adeboye uses his personal testimony as proof. The “generational curses” of poverty and sorrow in his family were not broken by his own efforts but by the entrance of the Light. The Light exposes and incinerates the works of darkness. Old things—sinful patterns, curses, failures—lose their power and pass away because they cannot exist in the presence of this holy Light.
    2. External Influence (Matthew 5:14): The Light does not stop with personal transformation. A person who carries Christ becomes a light-bearer (“the light of the world”). This light then shines into their family, workplace, and community, bringing liberation to others. The darkness in your family will leave not because you fight it directly, but because the Light within you shines on it irresistibly.

    A Call to the Light

The message culminates in a direct evangelistic appeal, consistent with the ministry’s core mission. It makes clear that the solution to any form of bondage is not a ritual, a prayer formula, or positive thinking, but a person: Jesus Christ. The prayer of salvation provided is the simple, essential step to “let there be light” in a life shrouded in spiritual darkness.

    Pray this:
“Lord Jesus, I come to You just as I am. I acknowledge that I have been living in spiritual darkness. I believe You are the Light of the world, and I need You in my life. Please, forgive my sins and come into my heart. Be the Lord of my life. Shine Your light into every area of my being—my past, my present, and my future. Drive out every form of darkness, bondage, and curse. Make me a new creation today, and use me as a light to shine for others. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

    Action Steps:

    1. Identify the Darkness: Honestly assess your life. What areas are characterized by chaos, confusion, or repeated failure? These are areas that need the light of Christ.
    2. Ask for Sight, Not Stuff: In your prayers, follow Bartimaeus’s example. Prioritize asking God for wisdom, revelation, and spiritual insight (Ephesians 1:17-18) over asking for material things.
    3. Walk in the Light: If you prayed the salvation prayer, this is your new reality. Study 1 John 1:7. Commit to a life of openness and fellowship with God, confessing your sins to stay in the light.
    4. Shine Your Light: Intentionally look for ways to let the light of Christ within you bring hope, help, and encouragement to someone else this week.

Remember: The entrance of God’s light is the end of your darkness. No matter how long the darkness has prevailed or how deep it seems, one moment in the presence of the Light of the World can rewrite your destiny. You are not just fighting darkness; you are carrying the Light that darkness cannot overcome.

Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.
    Luke 6:21

    READ: Acts 8:27-39:

27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,
28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.
29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.
30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.
34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

RCCG OPEN HEAVEN 4 SEPTEMBER 2025 TODAY MESSAGE

O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; Psalm 63:1

The Scripture above was written by David in the wilderness of Judah. A wilderness is often characterised by a lack of food and water, and even though David might have been hungry and thirsty, he expressed a much greater desire for something more than food and water – God’s presence. No wonder God called David a man after His own heart (Acts 13:22).

In today’s Bible reading, we read about the Ethiopian eunuch who had travelled many miles to Jerusalem to worship God. However, he had many questions as he was returning to his home country. As he travelled on the dusty roads of Gaza, an angel spoke to Phillip and told him to position himself on the road the eunuch was travelling on.

As Phillip stood by the road, the Holy Spirit gave him an additional instruction to move closer to the man’s chariot. God was so interested in the eunuch that He moved everything – an angel, a man, and His Spirit – to give him the answers he desired (Acts 8:26-40). This is what happens when God sees genuine hunger for Him in the life of a fellow. He will never let the hungry go away without being filled, and He will always fill them with good things (Luke 1:53).

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

    Matthew 5:6

God feeds you in proportion to your hunger for Him. Psalm 42:7 says, “

    “…deep calleth unto deep…”

When you really want to go deep in God, your hunger will attract the resources you need to go deep. A hungry and thirsty fellow is one who is desperate for food and water. In the same vein, God expects us to hunger and thirst for His power and glory. He expects us to desperately pursue Him and seek intimacy with Him.

Jesus gave a parable in Matthew 13:44-46 that the Kingdom of God is like a man who found treasure in a field and sold all that he had so he could buy that field and own the treasure. Just like that man in the parable, God wants you to be hungry for Him so you can be filled and reflect more of His glory on the earth.

    REFLECTION

Are you truly hungry for God?

    BIBLE IN ONE YEAR

    Ezekiel 33-35

HYMN 8: I Need Thee Every Hour

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 4 SEPTEMBER 2025 COMMENTARY

    MEMORISE: Luke 6:21 (KJV)
“Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.”
This beatitude, spoken by Jesus, is a divine promise of reversal. It assures that a present state of spiritual longing and need will not last forever. God personally guarantees to satisfy those who earnestly seek Him. The “filling” is not just a temporary relief but a complete saturation of the soul’s deepest desires by God Himself.

    BIBLE READING: Acts 8:27-39 (KJV)
This passage details the divine orchestration that occurs in response to a seeking heart. The Ethiopian eunuch, a high-ranking official, had traveled a great distance to worship in Jerusalem, demonstrating significant personal cost and hunger for God. Though he left with unanswered questions, his open Scripture scroll on Isaiah 53 revealed a heart actively searching for truth. God responded to this hunger by mobilizing heaven’s resources—sending an angel, directing Philip, and guiding the Holy Spirit—to ensure this seeker was found and filled.

The Nature of True Spiritual Hunger

Daddy Adeboye uses David in Psalm 63:1 to define genuine hunger. It is a thirst that surpasses even physical needs. In a barren wilderness where his body craved water, David’s soul craved God more. This is the heart cry God responds to—a desire for the Giver, not just His gifts. This prioritization of God’s presence above all else is what defined David as “a man after God’s own heart” (Acts 13:22). The devotional interprets that God is not looking for casual attendees of church services but for desperate seekers who value intimacy with Him above life itself.

    Divine Response to Human Hunger

The story of the Ethiopian eunuch is presented as a case study in how heaven reacts to authentic seeking. The interpretation highlights several key points:

    • God Initiates: The eunuch was searching, but God made the first move by commanding Philip to go to the desert road. This shows that our hunger itself is often sparked and recognized by God.
    • God Orchestrates: The entire encounter was supernaturally coordinated. An angel gave the initial command, the Spirit provided specific timing (“Go near”), and the Scripture provided the content. This demonstrates that when God finds a hungry heart, He will move heaven and earth to ensure they are fed.
    • God Satisfies: The result was not just an intellectual answer but a transformational encounter. The eunuch understood the gospel, believed, was baptized, and went on his way rejoicing—completely filled. This aligns with the promise in Luke 1:53 that God ” filleth the hungry with good things.”

    The Principle of Proportional Filling

The devotional introduces a crucial spiritual law: “God feeds you in proportion to your hunger for Him.” This is drawn from the “deep calleth unto deep” principle of Psalm 42:7. The interpretation is that the depth of our longing attracts a corresponding depth of God’s revelation and power. A shallow, complacent faith will receive a shallow experience. But a desperate, passionate pursuit of God—a hunger that leads us to “sell all” we have, as in the parable of the hidden treasure (Matthew 13:44)—will be met with the profound riches of His glory and presence.

Hunger as the Pathway to Glory

The ultimate purpose of this hunger is not just for personal satisfaction but for transformation. We are filled so that we may “reflect more of His glory on the earth.” A hungry Christian is a dependent Christian, and a dependent Christian is a powerful Christian. The filling we receive equips us to be effective witnesses and carriers of God’s presence into a dry and thirsty world, just as Philip was sent to the eunuch.

    Pray this:
“Lord God, create in me a desperate and unquenchable hunger for Your presence. Forgive me for the times I have been satisfied with spiritual snacks when You offer a feast. Like David, let my soul thirst for You above all else. Holy Spirit, draw me into the deep places of prayer and Your Word. I position myself like the Ethiopian eunuch, Scripture open and heart ready. Come and fill me until I overflow with Your joy and reflect Your glory to everyone around me, in Jesus’ name.”

    Action Steps:

    1. Evaluate Your Appetite: Honestly assess your spiritual hunger. Do you crave God’s presence more than entertainment, comfort, or recognition?
    2. Create a “Wilderness” Time: Intentionally set aside a distraction-free time each day (even 15 minutes) to seek God alone, telling Him you want more of Him.
    3. Position Yourself: Like the eunuch, keep your “scroll” open. Have a specific Bible reading plan and ask the Holy Spirit for understanding as you read.
    4. Obey Promptings: Be like Philip, ready to move when the Spirit guides, whether to pray, serve, or share, knowing God is orchestrating divine appointments for hungry hearts.

Remember: Spiritual hunger is the only appetite where being filled only increases the desire for more. God is not offended by your desperation; He is attracted to it. Your hunger is the catalyst for a divine encounter that will not only satisfy your soul but also propel you into your destiny as a carrier of His glory.
