RCCG OPEN HEAVENS 11 AUGUST 2026 TODAY MESSAGE
The farther you want to go in life, the more you must invest in yourself. For example, if you are driving a car with a tank full of petrol from Lagos, which is in South West Nigeria, to somewhere in Northern Nigeria, you will need to refuel your car at some point during the course of your journey.
However, if you were only going to Ibadan, which is also a city in the South West of Nigeria, you wouldn’t need to stop on your way to buy more petrol.
Anyone who wants to go far in life must invest resources that include holiness, hard work, knowledge, and good interpersonal skills in his or her life, while avoiding unproductive habits such as binge-watching movies, scrolling aimlessly on social media, wild partying, and the like. Discipline is required to go far in life.
I recall when I was a child, my mother would compel me to stay indoors and study while my friends were outdoors playing football. I used to complain a lot about it, but she insisted until it became a part of me. One time, I was at my uncle’s place, where a masquerade show was taking place on the street, and everyone was outside watching the show except me.
My uncle came to me and asked why I didn’t go outside to watch the show, and I responded, “The fellow everyone will watch someday does not sit around watching shows.” Many years later, when God had lifted me, he reminded me of that day and said, “Today, the whole world is watching you.”
Beloved, what you invest in yourself is what will determine your height in life. While the other captives in the king of Babylon’s palace were busy dining and feasting on the king’s delicacies, Daniel and his three counterparts focused on consecrating themselves to the Lord (Daniel 1:3-12).
I believe that they were not the only Jews in the king’s palace at that time, but they were the only ones who went on to do exploits because they invested the right resources in themselves.
Child of God, if you have big dreams that you want to see come to pass, then you must pay the price to invest in yourself. You must also let go of unnecessary weights, such as laziness and a lack of self-control, as well as impurities like sin, which can hinder you from fulfilling God’s plans for your life. I pray that you will fulfil God’s plans for your life, in Jesus’ name.
PRAYER POINT
Father, please help me to invest the right resources in my life so I can fulfil Your plans for me, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL 11 AUGUST 2026 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: 1 Corinthians 9:24
“Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.”
Running the Christian race requires intentionality, discipline, and investment. To finish well and receive the prize, you cannot run casually—you must run to win.
BIBLE READING: Proverbs 31:1-2
These opening verses record the words of King Lemuel, taught by his mother. She asks him the solemn question: “What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?”This is a mother’s charge to her son to live wisely and invest in the things that matter.
The Farther You Want to Go, the More You Must Invest
“The farther you want to go in life, the more you must invest in yourself. For example, if you are driving a car with a tank full of petrol from Lagos, which is in South West Nigeria, to somewhere in Northern Nigeria, you will need to refuel your car at some point during the course of your journey. However, if you were only going to Ibadan, which is also a city in the South West of Nigeria, you wouldn’t need to stop on your way to buy more petrol.”
| Short Journey | Long Journey |
|---|---|
| Lagos to Ibadan | Lagos to Northern Nigeria |
| One tank of petrol is enough | You will need to refuel |
| Little investment required | Continuous investment required |
“Anyone who wants to go far in life must invest resources that include holiness, hard work, knowledge, and good interpersonal skills in his or her life, while avoiding unproductive habits such as binge-watching movies, scrolling aimlessly on social media, wild partying, and the like. Discipline is required to go far in life.”
| What to Invest In | What to Avoid |
|---|---|
| Holiness | Binge-watching movies |
| Hard work | Scrolling aimlessly on social media |
| Knowledge | Wild partying |
| Good interpersonal skills | Laziness and lack of self-control |
“Discipline is required to go far in life.”
Daddy Adeboye’s Childhood: The Discipline That Shaped His Destiny
“I recall when I was a child, my mother would compel me to stay indoors and study while my friends were outdoors playing football. I used to complain a lot about it, but she insisted until it became a part of me.”
| The Mother’s Investment | The Son’s Response |
|---|---|
| Compelled him to study while others played | He complained, but it became part of him |
| Insisted on discipline | He learned to prioritize what matters |
“One time, I was at my uncle’s place, where a masquerade show was taking place on the street, and everyone was outside watching the show except me. My uncle came to me and asked why I didn’t go outside to watch the show, and I responded, ‘The fellow everyone will watch someday does not sit around watching shows.’”
| The Child’s Wisdom | The Fulfillment |
|---|---|
| “The fellow everyone will watch does not watch shows” | He understood the cost of greatness |
| He invested in himself while others wasted time | He was preparing for his future |
“Many years later, when God had lifted me, he reminded me of that day and said, ‘Today, the whole world is watching you.’”
| His Investment | The Result |
|---|---|
| He studied while others played | God lifted him |
| He disciplined himself | The world watches him |
| He did not waste time | He became a global figure |
The Example of Daniel: Separating for Distinction
“Beloved, what you invest in yourself is what will determine your height in life. While the other captives in the king of Babylon’s palace were busy dining and feasting on the king’s delicacies, Daniel and his three counterparts focused on consecrating themselves to the Lord (Daniel 1:3-12).”
| What the Others Did | What Daniel and His Friends Did |
|---|---|
| Dining and feasting on the king’s delicacies | Consecrating themselves to the Lord |
| Enjoying temporary pleasure | Investing in eternal principles |
| Blending in with the culture | Standing out by holiness |
“I believe that they were not the only Jews in the king’s palace at that time, but they were the only ones who went on to do exploits because they invested the right resources in themselves.”
| Why Daniel Excelled | Why Others Remained Ordinary |
|---|---|
| He invested in consecration | They invested in comfort |
| He chose discipline | They chose indulgence |
| He prepared for greatness | They settled for mediocrity |
How to Invest in Yourself (Practical Steps)
Based on Daddy Adeboye’s teaching, here is how to prepare for the greatness God has for you:
1. Invest in Holiness
Daniel separated himself from what would defile him. He refused the king’s food because it was offered to idols. Holiness is not just about avoiding sin—it is about consecrating yourself for God’s use. Discipline your body, your appetites, and your desires.
2. Invest in Knowledge
“My mother compelled me to stay indoors and study.”
Study God’s word. Study your field. Read books. Learn skills. Growth comes through intentional learning. Do not let entertainment steal your study time.
3. Invest in Hard Work
Daniel and his friends worked hard and served excellently (Daniel 6:3 – “an excellent spirit was in him”). Do not be lazy. Excellence is the fruit of disciplined effort.
4. Invest in Discipline
The thing that distinguishes those who go far from those who stay behind is discipline. Do what is necessary even when you do not feel like it. Say no to what wastes your time and yes to what builds your destiny.
5. Let Go of Unnecessary Weights
“You must also let go of unnecessary weights, such as laziness and a lack of self-control, as well as impurities like sin, which can hinder you from fulfilling God’s plans for your life.”
Hebrews 12:1 – “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.”
| Weights to Lay Aside | Why |
|---|---|
| Laziness | It slows you down |
| Lack of self-control | It derails you |
| Sin | It disqualifies you |
| Unproductive habits | They waste your time |
Warning: Casual Running Will Not Win the Prize
Daddy Adeboye’s devotional carries an urgent warning: the prize is not for everyone who runs—it is for those who run with discipline and intentionality.
| Casual Runner | Disciplined Runner |
|---|---|
| Runs without focus | Runs to obtain the prize |
| Allows distractions | Lays aside every weight |
| Invests little | Invests everything |
Conclusion: Your Prayer for Discipline and Investment
Daddy Adeboye closes with a prayer that you will fulfill God’s plans for your life. Do not waste your time. Invest in yourself. Run to win.
Pray this:
“Lord Jesus, I want to go far in You. I do not want to be ordinary. I do not want to waste my life on entertainment, laziness, and empty pursuits. Help me to invest in what matters—holiness, knowledge, hard work, and discipline. Like Daniel, give me the courage to separate myself for Your purposes. Like Daddy Adeboye, give me the discipline to study while others play. Help me to lay aside every weight and sin that slows me down. I want to run my race and win the prize. I want to finish well. In Jesus’ mighty name.”
Action Steps:
- The Investment Audit: Look at how you spend your time this week. How much goes to productive investment (prayer, study, work, growth) versus wasteful habits (scrolling, entertainment)? Adjust accordingly.
- The Discipline Challenge: Choose one area where you lack discipline and commit to a daily practice to strengthen it (e.g., waking up earlier, reading daily, avoiding social media during work hours).
- The Daniel Declaration: Identify one area where you need to separate yourself from the world (like Daniel refused the king’s food). Make a commitment and stick to it.
