TOPIC: SHIELDED BY HIS NAME

MEMORISE:

The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee;
Psalm 20:1

READ: Philippians 2:9-11

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

RCCG OPEN HEAVENS 15 OCTOBER 2026 TODAY MESSAGE

Names are very powerful; they reveal many things about a person. For example, if you meet someone who bears the surname of the president of your country, you will be curious to know whether he or she is related to the president or not. When you discover that such a person is related to the president, you will automatically think that he or she is wealthy, influential, and has direct access to the president. This is also what obtains in our relationship with God. When a person is born again, he or she becomes a child of God. Such a person automatically takes on God’s name and has unhindered access to Him.

I still remember the first time a Head of State invited me to his home. When I arrived at the first gate, I was asked where I was going, and I replied, “The president asked me to come and see him.” The security personnel then checked their records to confirm my invitation. I scaled through the first gate, and when I got to the second gate, I was thoroughly checked. I got to the third gate, and the same check was carried out on me, despite the fact that the personnel at the gate saw that I had been checked at the second gate.

When I moved on to the fourth gate, I said, “Oh God, I thank You because I have Jesus. I thank You because anytime I want to talk to You, all I have to say is ‘in the name of Jesus.’” No matter how pressing an issue is, all I need to say is ‘in Jesus’ name’, and God’s ears will be open to my cry.

God’s name also shields believers from the enemy’s attacks. Proverbs 18:10 tells us that: “The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” In other words, if enemies are pursuing you, you can call on the name of the Lord; His name will become a strong tower around you, and the enemy will not be able to harm you.

The Bible says in Psalm 27:1-3 that if your enemies are running after you and are about to catch up, they will stumble and fall. As we see in today’s Bible reading, every knee shall bow at the name of Jesus! I decree that the name of the Lord will be your shield, delivering you and your family from every attack of the enemy, in Jesus’ name.

PRAYER POINT

Father, thank You for the power in the name of Jesus. I decree that His name shields me and my family from every attack of the enemy, in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 15 OCTOBER 2026 COMMENTARY

Today’s devotional, “Shielded by His Name,” teaches us that the name of Jesus is not just a word we say at the end of prayers — it is a weapon, a shield, and a strong tower.

Daddy uses a powerful illustration from his own life to show us the difference between approaching an earthly president and approaching the King of kings. With earthly authority, there are gates, checks, and protocols. But with God, we have unhindered access through the name of Jesus.

That same name also protects us from the enemy. When we call on the name of the Lord, it becomes a strong tower around us — and the enemy cannot touch us.

1. The Name of Jesus Gives Us Access to God

Daddy shares his experience visiting a Head of State. At the first gate, he was questioned. At the second gate, he was thoroughly checked. At the third gate, checked again. At the fourth gate, he paused and thanked God: “I thank You because I have Jesus. Anytime I want to talk to You, all I have to say is ‘in the name of Jesus.’”

You don’t need an appointment to reach God. You don’t need to pass through security checks. The name of Jesus gives you direct, immediate, unhindered access to the throne of grace. Whatever you need, wherever you are — just call on His name.

2. The Name of Jesus Shields Us from the Enemy

Proverbs 18:10 says, “The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”

This means if enemies are pursuing you, call on the name of the Lord, Jesus and he will deliver you Psalm 27:1-3 says that if your enemies are running after you and are about to catch up, they will stumble and fall.

The enemy may chase you. He may try to attack you, your family, your health, or your destiny. But when you run into the name of Jesus, you are safe.

3. The Name Above Every Name

Philippians 2:9-10 tells us that God has highly exalted Jesus and given Him a name which is above every name — that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven, on earth, and under the earth.

When you speak the name of Jesus, you are not just saying words. You are invoking the highest authority in the universe. Meditate on this.
Demons tremble at that name. Sickness bows at that name. Fear flees at that name. The name of Jesus is your shield — use it.

Relating This to Your Everyday Life

You may be facing attacks from the enemy — in your health, your finances, your family, your mind. You may feel pursued, pressed, and overwhelmed. But today’s message reminds you that you have a name.

Call on Jesus Christ — the name above every name. When you call on Him, He answers. When you run into Him, you are safe.

Are you facing trouble today? Call on the name of Jesus. Are you being attacked? Run into the strong tower. Are you feeling far from God? Remember that through Jesus, you have access to the Father. The name of Jesus is your shield.

Action Steps

1. Call on the Name Daily — Make it a habit to call on the name of Jesus throughout your day. When fear comes, say His name. When trouble comes, call on Him. Let His name be your first response, not your last resort.

2. Declare Your Protection — Speak over yourself and your family: “The name of the Lord is our strong tower. We run into it and we are safe.” Declare it daily.

3. Use Your Access — Don’t take your access to God for granted. Come boldly before the throne. Pray often. Talk to your Father. You have unhindered access through Jesus.

Prayer Points

  1. Father, I thank You for the name of Jesus — a name that saves, shields, and gives me access to Your throne. I bless You for the privilege of calling on Your name, in Jesus’ name.
  2. Lord, forgive me for the times I have taken the name of Jesus for granted. Forgive me for using His name carelessly or doubting its power, in Jesus’ name.
  3. Father, I run into the name of Jesus today. Be my strong tower. Protect me from every attack of the enemy, in Jesus’ name.
  4. Lord, every knee shall bow at the name of Jesus. I decree that every enemy, every sickness, every hindrance shall bow before that name on my behalf, in Jesus’ name.
  5. Father, let the name of Jesus shield my family. Deliver us from every attack, every plot, every scheme of the enemy, in Jesus’ name.
  6. Lord, thank You for giving me unhindered access to Your presence. Whenever I call, You hear me. Whenever I pray, You answer, in Jesus’ name.
  7. Father, I declare that the name of the Lord is my defence. I am safe, I am shielded, and I am delivered, in Jesus’ name.
