OPEN HEAVENS 24 JULY 2026 TODAY DEVOTIONAL
TOPIC: SUSTAINING YOUR FREEDOM II
MEMORISE:
Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Psalm 100:2
READ: Luke 17:12-19
12 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:
13 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
14 And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,
16 And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.
17 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?
18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.
19 And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.
RCCG OPEN HEAVENS 24 JULY 2026 TODAY MESSAGE
Yesterday, I discussed how a fellow who has been delivered must praise God to sustain his or her freedom. Today, I will discuss thanksgiving, perpetual worship, and genuine service to the Lord as steps a person must also take to maintain his or her freedom.
In today’s Bible reading, ten lepers cried unto Jesus for mercy, and He told them to go and show themselves to the priests. As they went, they discovered that they were healed, but only one of them returned to say “Thank you” to Jesus. He returned praising and glorifying God with a loud voice. He was not shy about giving thanks to God, and Jesus gave him an extra miracle; He made him whole.
An African adage says that a child who is grateful for a gift he or she receives today will definitely receive more gifts in the future. When you give thanks to the Almighty God for what He has done for you, beyond retaining what He has given you, you will also position yourself to receive more from Him.
Worshipping God perpetually is another step to sustaining deliverance and freedom. In 2 Kings 5:1-17, God delivered Naaman from the yoke of leprosy. After his deliverance, Naaman made up his mind that he would only worship the Almighty God for the rest of his life, and I am sure that his deliverance remained permanent. You must also make up your mind that you will spend your life worshipping God and Him alone.
You should also have a place where you can meet with God to worship Him regularly, regardless of its size or unconventional nature. I remember a time when the only place I could worship God without disturbance was in my bathroom. You should also ensure that your heart is always prepared to worship Him at all times.
Another key to sustaining deliverance and freedom is to serve God genuinely and wholeheartedly. When the Lord takes away a fellow’s burdens, the fellow should serve Him with his or her whole heart and be committed in the place of service.
In Mark 5:1-20 after Jesus had delivered the mad man of Gadara, He told him to go about preaching the gospel to his friends. When you submit yourself as a tool in the hands of God to expand His kingdom, the devil cannot possess you again.
I pray that as you thank the Almighty generously, worship Him perpetually, and serve Him wholeheartedly, He will preserve your victories and increase His blessings in your life, in Jesus’ name.
PRAYER POINT
Father, please help me to cultivate a heart that thanks You generously, worships You perpetually, and serves You wholeheartedly all the days of my life.

Open Heavens HYMN 39: I AM THINE, O LORD
OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL 24 JULY 2026 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Psalm 100:2
“Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.”
This verse is a call to joyful, active worship.
BIBLE READING: Luke 17:12-19
This passage records the healing of ten lepers. As Jesus entered a certain village, ten lepers stood at a distance, crying out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” Jesus told them, “Go show yourselves unto the priests.” As they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice, and fell at Jesus’ feet, giving Him thanks. He was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, “Were there not ten cleansed? where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.” Then He said to the man, “Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.”
The Nine Who Received Healing but Not Wholeness
“In today’s Bible reading, ten lepers cried unto Jesus for mercy, and He told them to go and show themselves to the priests. As they went, they discovered that they were healed, but only one of them returned to say ‘Thank you’ to Jesus.”
| The Nine Lepers | The One Leper |
|---|---|
| Received healing | Received healing |
| Kept walking | Turned back |
| Did not return to thank Jesus | Returned glorifying God with a loud voice |
| Received cleansing | Received wholeness (extra miracle) |
“He returned praising and glorifying God with a loud voice. He was not shy about giving thanks to God, and Jesus gave him an extra miracle; He made him whole.”
| What the Nine Got | What the One Got |
|---|---|
| Cleansing from leprosy | Cleansing + wholeness |
| Physical healing | Physical and spiritual completeness |
| A gift | A gift plus an extra blessing |
“An African adage says that a child who is grateful for a gift he or she receives today will definitely receive more gifts in the future.”
| Ingratitude | Gratitude |
|---|---|
| Closes the door to further blessing | Opens the door for more |
| Takes the gift but forgets the Giver | Honors the Giver and invites more |
| The nine received nothing else | The one received wholeness |
“When you give thanks to the Almighty God for what He has done for you, beyond retaining what He has given you, you will also position yourself to receive more from Him.”
Thanksgiving: The First Step to Sustaining Freedom
Thanksgiving does not just acknowledge past deliverance; it secures future blessings. The one leper did not just receive healing—he received wholeness. His thanksgiving unlocked what the nine missed.
| What Thanksgiving Does | What Lack of Thanksgiving Does |
|---|---|
| Positions you for more | Leaves you with only what you have |
| Honors the Giver | Takes the gift and forgets the Source |
| Completes the miracle | Leaves the miracle incomplete |
| Seals your deliverance | Leaves the door open for the enemy |
Perpetual Worship: Naaman’s Decision
“Worshipping God perpetually is another step to sustaining deliverance and freedom. In 2 Kings 5:1-17, God delivered Naaman from the yoke of leprosy. After his deliverance, Naaman made up his mind that he would only worship the Almighty God for the rest of his life, and I am sure that his deliverance remained permanent.”
| Naaman’s Condition | Naaman’s Decision |
|---|---|
| Leprous, desperate, hopeless | After healing: “I will worship no other god but the Lord” |
| Needed deliverance | Made a vow of perpetual worship |
| Received cleansing | Secured permanent freedom through worship |
2 Kings 5:17 – “And Naaman said, Shall there not then, I pray thee, be given to thy servant two mules’ burden of earth? for henceforth thy servant will offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the LORD.”
“You must also make up your mind that you will spend your life worshipping God and Him alone.”
| Worshipping Perpetually | Worshipping Occasionally |
|---|---|
| A lifestyle, not an event | A Sunday activity, not a daily posture |
| Keeps your heart focused on God | Leaves room for other loyalties |
| Maintains your deliverance | Risks the enemy’s return |
Have a Place of Worship
“You should also have a place where you can meet with God to worship Him regularly, regardless of its size or unconventional nature. I remember a time when the only place I could worship God without disturbance was in my bathroom.”
| Your Place of Worship | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| It does not have to be a church building | Worship is about the heart, not the architecture |
| It does not have to be large or impressive | A closet, a bathroom, a corner of your room |
| It just needs to be regular | Consistency builds spiritual strength |
“You should also ensure that your heart is always prepared to worship Him at all times.”
| A Prepared Heart | An Unprepared Heart |
|---|---|
| Ready to worship anytime, anywhere | Only worships when conditions are perfect |
| Worships in spirit and truth | Worships out of habit or obligation |
| Keeps the deliverance secure | Invites the enemy back |
Genuine Service: The Mad Man of Gadara
“Another key to sustaining deliverance and freedom is to serve God genuinely and wholeheartedly. When the Lord takes away a fellow’s burdens, the fellow should serve Him with his or her whole heart and be committed in the place of service.”
Mark 5:1-20 – The mad man of Gadara lived among the tombs, possessed by a legion of demons. He was uncontrollable, self-destructive, and isolated. Jesus cast out the demons, and the man was found sitting at Jesus’ feet, clothed, and in his right mind.
“After Jesus had delivered the mad man of Gadara, He told him to go about preaching the gospel to his friends.”
| The Man’s Condition Before | The Man’s Assignment After |
|---|---|
| Demoniac, bound, tormented | Preacher of the gospel |
| Living in tombs, cut off from community | Witness to his friends and family |
| A danger to himself and others | An ambassador for Christ |
“When you submit yourself as a tool in the hands of God to expand His kingdom, the devil cannot possess you again.”
| The Delivered Who Serve | The Delivered Who Do Not Serve |
|---|---|
| Stay occupied with kingdom work | Remain idle, empty, vulnerable |
| The enemy cannot repossess them | The enemy finds an empty house |
| Their deliverance is sustained | Their deliverance is at risk |
Service is not just about helping others; it is about protecting yourself. A busy servant is a poor target for re-enslavement. The enemy looks for idle hands and empty hearts.
The Three Pillars of Sustained Deliverance
Based on Daddy Adeboye’s teaching, here are the three keys to keeping your freedom:
| Pillar | What It Involves | What It Produces |
|---|---|---|
| Thanksgiving | Returning to thank God for every deliverance | Extra miracles, wholeness, more blessings |
| Perpetual Worship | Making worship a lifestyle, having a place and posture of worship | Permanent deliverance, a heart fixed on God |
| Genuine Service | Preaching, serving, expanding the kingdom | The enemy cannot repossess you |
“I pray that as you thank the Almighty generously, worship Him perpetually, and serve Him wholeheartedly, He will preserve your victories and increase His blessings in your life, in Jesus’ name.”
How to Practice Thanksgiving, Worship, and Service (Practical Steps)
1. Practice Specific Thanksgiving
Do not just say, “Thank You, Lord, for everything.” Be specific like the leper. Return to the place where you received your blessing and give thanks. Keep a gratitude journal. Write down what God has done. Thank Him for each deliverance.
2. Establish a Place and Time for Worship
Find a corner, a room, a closet, even a bathroom. Set a time each day. Go there to worship—not to ask, not to beg, just to worship. Make it non-negotiable.
3. Serve in Your Local Church
Do not wait for a title or a position. Find somewhere to serve. Usher. Teach Sunday school. Clean the building. Join the choir. Serve in the technical team. Do something. Idle hands are the devil’s workshop.
The mad man of Gadara was told to tell his friends what God had done. Share your testimony. Write it down. Speak it aloud. Tell one person this week. Your testimony is a weapon that keeps the enemy away.
5. Make Perpetual Worship a Vow
Like Naaman, make a decision: “Henceforth, I will worship no other god but the Lord.” Not just on Sundays. Not just when you feel like it. Every day. All the time.
Warning: The Nine Lost Their Extra Miracle
Daddy Adeboye’s devotional carries a sobering warning: the nine lepers were cleansed, but they missed out on wholeness. They received the gift but lost the extra.
| What the Nine Lost | What the One Gained |
|---|---|
| Wholeness | Complete healing |
| The extra miracle | Abundant blessing |
| Jesus’ affirmation: “Thy faith hath made thee whole” | A personal word from the Master |
Do not be among the nine. Do not receive your deliverance and keep walking without looking back. Return. Give thanks. Worship. Serve. Receive your extra miracle.
Conclusion: Your Prayer for Perpetual Freedom
Daddy Adeboye closes with a prayer that as you thank, worship, and serve, God will preserve your victories and increase His blessings.
Pray this:
“Lord Jesus, I thank You for every deliverance You have given me. I refuse to be like the nine lepers who received cleansing but did not return to give thanks. I return to You today with a loud voice of praise. I thank You for healing me. I thank You for setting me free. I thank You for wholeness. I make a vow like Naaman: I will worship You and You alone for the rest of my life. I will serve You genuinely and wholeheartedly. Use me as a tool to expand Your kingdom. I will not be idle. I will not leave my house empty. I will give thanks, I will worship, I will serve. Preserve my victories. Increase Your blessings. In Jesus’ mighty name.”
Action Steps:
- The Return of Thanksgiving: Identify one specific deliverance or blessing God has given you. This week, “return” to Him in prayer with specific, audible thanksgiving. Do not just think it; say it.
- The Worship Space: If you do not have a regular place and time for worship, create one today. It can be a chair in your room, a corner of your living room, or even your bathroom. Commit to spending 15 minutes there daily just worshiping.
- The Service Commitment: Identify one area of service in your local church or community that you can commit to this month. Sign up. Show up. Serve. Do not let the enemy find you idle.
