[5] Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof ye had notice before, that the same might be ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness.
[6] But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
[7] Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
[8] And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
[9] (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.
[10] Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)
[11] Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.

MEMORY VERSE:

LESSON INTRODUCTION

Giving is an act of providing something, especially money, materials or other resources, to help others or support a cause. In a biblical context, it means to share one’s blessings, talents, and resources with others and demonstrate love, generosity, and trust in God’s provision. It is a fundamental aspect of the Christian faith that shows God’s generous nature and our love for Him and others. In this study, we will consider the biblical principles of giving, the blessings of giving and what implications these have for our lives.

TEXT REVIEW: 2 Corinthians 9:5-11

In his Second Epistle to the Corinthians, Paul the apostle teaches that giving should be from a willing, generous heart, and not done grudgingly. V5-7
He encourages believers to give cheerfully, because generosity leads to spiritual and material sufficiency, as God can “make all grace abound,” supplying every need. V8-9
The blessedness of giving is seen in God’s provision, spiritual growth, and multiplied blessings, especially for those who give willingly and cheerfully. V10
Giving is portrayed not as loss, but as an act that produces righteousness, thanksgiving, and greater harvests of blessing. V11

TEACHING METHOD: Lecture and Discussion Methods.

LESSON OUTLINE 1: BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES OF GIVING

A. God’s generosity is the foundation of giving.

i. He gave His only Son – Jesus Christ, to save humanity from sin (John 3:16; Matthew 1:21).

ii. This ultimate act of generosity sets the standard for giving.

B. The Bible admonishes believers to give bountifully, sacrificially, willingly, and joyfully (2 Corinthians 9:6-7).

i. When we give sacrificially, we demonstrate our commitment to God’s kingdom (2 Samuel 24:24).

ii. Giving is an act of worship and a proof of our devotion to God.

iii. We also express our gratitude for His blessings in our lives when we give.

C. Some biblical instances of generous giving include:

i. Abraham, who gave ‘tithes of all’ to Melchizedek (Genesis 14:18-20).

ii. The early church shared their possessions to meet one another’s needs (Acts 2:44-45).

LESSON OUTLINE 2: THE BLESSINGS OF GIVING

Giving brings spiritual blessings, including joy, peace, and a deeper relationship with God (Acts 20:35).
When we give, we experience God’s presence and guidance in our lives (Acts 10:1-4; Hebrews 13:16).
Giving helps us grow in our faith and acknowledge that God will meet our needs (Philippians 4:19).
One way to know you have conquered greed is through giving (1 Timothy 6:17-18).
The Bible promises material blessings for those who give generously (Luke 6:38).
Generous giving brings prosperity (Proverbs 11:24-25).
Giving blesses others (Acts 4:34-35).
We also build relationships with others through giving (1 John 3:16-18).
Generosity fuels revival and kingdom expansion (Acts 4:32-35).
Ultimately, we lay up treasures in heaven through giving (Matthew 6:19-20; Luke 12:33; Proverbs 19:17).

Students should share a brief experience of how giving brought blessings.
