RCCG SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS MANUAL LESSON 8 (25 OCTOBER 2026)

    TOPIC: EFFECTIVE PRAYER

    OPENING PRAYER:

Father, teach me how to pray effective prayers.

    PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE:

The teacher should allow the assistant teacher to review the lesson for the previous week.

    BIBLE READING

    BIBLE PASSAGE: James 5:16-18

16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

    MEMORY VERSE:

“The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.” Proverbs 15:29.

    LESSON INTRODUCTION:

To be effective means to be successful in producing a desired result. Prayer is the act of communicating with God through words, thoughts, or actions to express thanks, praise, requests, confessions, etc. Effective prayer, therefore, means to communicate successfully to God what is intended and get the anticipated result. It is powerful (James 5:16b), and centred on God’s will (Philippians 4:6; 1 John 5:14).

    TEACHER’S DIARY

LESSON AIM: To teach the church the keys to effective prayer.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES: Through this study, students are expected to:
    a. Know what effective prayer means.
    b. Explain the keys and hindrances to effective prayer.
    c. Understand the kinds of effective prayer.

TEACHING PLAN: To achieve the above-stated objectives, the teacher should:
    a. Allow the students to recite the memory verse, read the Bible passage, contribute to the discussion, and do class activities and assignments.
    b. Allow the Assistant Teacher to see to the well-being of the class, and mark attendance and assignment.
    c. Teach the lesson outline, summarise, conclude, evaluate the lesson and give assignments.

    TEXT REVIEW: James 5:16-18

    A. The apostle James, in this passage, addresses the effectiveness of the prayer of a righteous man. Using Prophet Elijah as a case study, he admonished Christians to confess their faults to one another and pray for one another. Vs 16a
    i. So that we may be healed. Vs 16b
    ii. The effectual….. Vs 16c
    iii. Elias was…..Vs 17
    iv. He prayed again…….Vs 18.

    TEACHING METHOD: The Lecture Method.

TIME MANAGEMENT: The teacher should apply the two-lesson outline teaching time.

LESSON OUTLINE 1: THE KEYS AND HINDRANCES

    A. Some of the keys to praying effectively are listed below.

    1. Uprightness: God delights in the prayers of the upright, that is, one who is saved and righteous (Proverbs 15:8).
    2. God’s Word: Effective prayer involves praying the word of God (John 15:7).
    3. Obedience: Obeying divine instructions and taking faith-based actions are keys to praying effectively (1 Kings 17:8-14; Luke 17:11-14).
    4. A Heart of Love: Prayer from a heart that is rooted in love avails much (Matthew 8:5-8, 13). It is difficult to pray for others if it is not coming from the place of love (Matthew 5:44-46).
    5. Persistence: Praying ceaselessly and maintaining a right relationship with God can move mountains (John 16:23-24).

    B. Some of the hindrances to effective prayer include:
    i. Disobedience (Proverbs 28:9).
    ii. Wrong motives (James 4:3).
iii. Lack of faith or doubt (Hebrews 11:6; James 1:6-7).
    iv. Unforgiving attitudes (Mark 11:25).
    v. Ignoring the needy or the poor (Proverbs 21:13).

    CLASS ACTIVITY 1:

Mention the most important key to effective prayer, and why?

    LESSON OUTLINE 2: THE KINDS

    1. Prayer of Faith: This is a powerful kind of prayer rooted in deep confidence that God hears and answers prayer (Mark 11:24). It is also based on the demand of your rights and privileges in Christ (John 14:12-14; James 5:15). It involves applying your knowledge of God to get results through prayer (Hebrews 11:6).
    2. Prayer of Consecration: This is a prayer to be set apart or dedicated for a holy cause (John 17:17-19). It involves presenting your whole self; your mind, body, and will to God’s plans (Leviticus 20:7). Prayer of consecration is not a one-time event but must be life-long, demonstrating a willingness to continuously yield to God’s will, like Jesus did (Luke 22:42). Believers are called to offer themselves as a living sacrifice to God (Romans 12:1).
    3. Prayer of Intercession: This is standing in the gap on behalf of others to change a situation or course of events (Exodus 32:11-14). In His final prayer, Jesus prayed to the Father not only for His disciples but also for the unity of all future believers (John 17:18-21). The Holy Spirit intercedes for believers, helping us in our weakness when we do not know how to pray (Romans 8:26-27). Hebrews 7:25 emphasises that Christ, our High Priest, continually makes intercession for our ultimate salvation.
    4. Prayer of Supplication: Supplication involves approaching God with a plea for help or to make requests, rather than making demands (Philippians 4:6-7). Believers approach God’s throne of grace with confidence to receive mercy and help in times of need (Hebrews 4:16). Supplication is seen as a vital part of a Christian’s spiritual walk (Ephesians 6:18). It should be accompanied with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6). Supplications can be made for oneself (Philippians 4:6), other Saints (James 5:16), those in authority and the unsaved (1 Timothy 2:1-4).

    CLASS ACTIVITY 2:

How does each of the different kinds of prayer strengthen a believer’s relationship with God?

CONCLUSION: RCCG Sunday School Teachers Manual 25 October 2026

You too can pray and get results.

    EVALUATION:

Mention the keys to effective prayer.

    CLOSING PRAYER:

Father, help me to pray effectively and get maximum results in Jesus’ name.

ASSIGNMENT: RCCG Sunday School Teachers Manual Lesson 8

Using your understanding of the keys of effective prayers, list five areas you can and will engage the prayer of intercession for your family, friends and nation this week (2X5=10 marks).

    TOPIC: THE MINISTRY OF ANGELS

    OPENING PRAYER:

Father, help me to understand the ministry of your angels in Jesus mighty name.

    PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE:

The assistant teacher should review the lesson for the previous week.

    BIBLE READING

    BIBLE PASSAGE: Hebrews 1:13-14

13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

    MEMORY VERSE:

“For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.” Psalm 91:11.

    LESSON INTRODUCTION:

Angels are supernatural beings, created by God. In both the Old Testament (Hebrew: mal’akh) and the New Testament (Greek: angelos), the word simply means “messenger.” (Revelation 19:10).

Biblically, angels are often strange and fearsome beings, sent by God as intermediaries to communicate with human beings on His behalf. Their messages include warnings, revelations, prophecies, deliverance and counsel. Angelic visitations bring comfort and protection, but at the same time, they can be mysterious and terrifying (Luke 2:9). The ministry of angels is rooted in the word of God (Psalm 103:20-21).

    TEACHER’S DIARY

LESSON AIM: To enlighten the church about the ministry of Angels.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES: Through this study, students are expected to:
    a. Describe the ministry of Angels.
    b. Mention and explain the categories of Angels.
    c. State the benefits of the ministry of Angels.

    TEXT REVIEW: Hebrews 1:13-14

This passage provides a clear distinction between Christ, the Son of the living God and the Angels of God. Saying:
    i. But to which of the Angels….. Vs. 13.
ii. Are they not all….. Vs. 14.

    TEACHING METHOD: The Lecture Method.

TIME MANAGEMENT: The teacher should apply the two-lesson outline teaching time.

LESSON OUTLINE 1: DESCRIPTION AND CATEGORIES

    A. Description
    i. Angels are part of God’s creations (Psalm 148:2, 5), and they are spirit beings (Hebrews 1:13-14).
ii. In their makeup, they are greater in power and might than man (2 Peter 2:11; 2 Kings 19:35).
iii. Angels are not omniscient like God; for instance, they do not know the time of the coming of Christ (Matthew 24:36).
iv. They are not omnipresent; they are said to go from place to place (Daniel 9:21-23).
    v. They are not to be worshipped nor prayed to by humans (Colossians 2:18; Revelation 22:8-9).
vi. They neither die nor get married (Luke 20:36; Mark 12:25).
vii. The number of the existing angels is unknown, but the Bible referred to them as innumerable (Hebrews 12:22).

    B. Categories
    Angels are in categories, including:
    i. Archangels: The title “archangel” suggests authority or leadership among angels. Archangels are powerful warriors often seen as protectors of God’s people (Jude 1:9). They have a pivotal role in God’s end-time plan (1 Thessalonians 4:16).
ii. Cherubim: These are the protectors of sacred spaces and divine secrets (Genesis 3:24). They have multiple faces-a human, a lion, and an eagle-each indicating qualities such as wisdom, power, service and swiftness (Ezekiel 10:14-15). They also have multiple wings and are covered with eyes for awareness and vigilance (Ezekiel 10:9, 12). God is portrayed as riding on a cherub (Psalm 18:10).
iii. Seraphim: These are described as fiery, six-winged beings that stand in the presence of God. One pair of wings covers their eyes, one covers their feet, and with another they fly around the throne of the Lord (Isaiah 6:2). Their primary role is to worship and exalt God’s holiness (Isaiah 6:3). They serve as a bridge between God’s holiness and humanity’s imperfection (Isaiah 6:6-7).
iv. Angels: Angels rescued Lot and his family (Genesis 19:15-16), opposed Balaam and his donkey (Numbers 22:21-31), nearly destroyed Jerusalem for David’s sin (2 Samuel 24:10-16), and slaughtered 185,000 Assyrian soldiers overnight (2 Kings 19:35). Frequently, they appear holding a sword (Numbers 22:31). Sometimes, God’s angels can take the form of humans to deliver His message to man (Genesis 18 and 19).

    CLASS ACTIVITY 1:

Share an experience when you felt God sent an Angel to help you.

    LESSON OUTLINE 2: THE BENEFITS

We benefit from the ministry of angels in the following ways:

    1. Angels supply supernatural strength to God’s children (Luke 22:43).
    2. They give godly counsel/guidance (Matthew 1:20).
    3. They deliver revelation and prophetic messages (Luke 1:5-16).
    4. They are sent to deliver God’s children from danger (Psalm 34:7).
    5. God’s angels are present wherever a child of God is (Psalm 91:11).

    CLASS ACTIVITY 2:

The class should share their experience of angelic revelations or visitations.

CONCLUSION: RCCG Sunday School Teachers Manual 4 October 2026

You need to know more and maximise the ministry of angels. Pray to God for angelic visitation now.

    EVALUATION:

Briefly describe and state the categories of angels that you know.

    CLOSING PRAYER:

Father, help me to enjoy the full benefits of the ministry of Angels in the name of Jesus.

RCCG SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS MANUAL LESSON 53 (31 AUGUST 2025)

    TOPIC: SPECIAL INTERACTIVE SESSION

DISCUSSION ON SOME OF THE CHALLENGING LESSONS OR SUBJECTS IN THE COURSE OF THE YEAR 2024-2025. THIS CAN TAKE THE FORM OF A DEBATE, QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS OR CLARIFICATIONS.

HERE ARE SOME ISSUES THAT MAY BE DEBATED IN THE CLASS IN THE 2024-2025 SUNDAY SCHOOL MANUAL.

    1. Lesson 1: Is the kingdom of God in heaven or on earth?
    2. Lesson 14: Is there anything like holy anger? Is it possible to be angry and not sin?
    3. Lesson 48: Is it only believers in Christ living holy that will make it to heaven? What about people of other religions (non-Christians) that are doing good?

TEACHERS SHOULD ALLOW THE STUDENTS PRESENT THEIR POINTS IN FAVOUR OR AGAINST THE MATTER. THEN, THE TEACHER SHOULD PRESENT THE CORRECT BIBLICAL STANCE AS STATED BELOW:

LESSON 1: Is The Kingdom Of God In Heaven Or On Earth?

    • The kingdom of God is the rule of an eternal, sovereign God over all the universe. Psalm 103:19 says “The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.” God’s kingdom is an eternal kingdom” (Daniel 4:3). It stretches from the ageless past to the future yet unseen. The kingdom of God comprises everything that is: visible and invisible.
    • The kingdom of God is also a spiritual rule over the hearts and lives of those who are genuinely born-again and willingly submit to God’s authority (John 3:3-5). Such people enter the kingdom of God on earth awaiting a translation to the kingdom of God in Heaven.
    • God’s kingdom resides within the heart of believers in Christ (Luke 17:20-21).
    • Ultimately, the kingdom of God (which the disciples enquired about when Jesus was about to ascend in Acts 1:6) will be the literal rule of Christ on the earth during the millennium. (Daniel 2:44).
    • Those who reject God’s authority and refuse to submit to Him are not part of the kingdom of God on earth and in heaven (1 Corinthians 6:9).

LESSON 14: Is There Anything Like Holy Anger? Is It Possible To Be Angry And Not Sin?

    • There are two Greek words translated as “anger.”
One means “passion, energy” and the other means “agitated, boiling.”
    • The first type of anger, of which the Bible approves, is called “righteous indignation” or “holy anger.” For instance, the Bible says God is angry with the wicked everyday (Psalm 7:11). Jesus looked on the Pharisees who were opposed to Him healing the man with a withered hand in anger (Mark 3:5).
This is God-given energy intended to help solve problems in the face of oppositions and it is acceptable for believers to be angry (Ephesians 4:26). Other examples of biblical anger include David’s being upset over hearing Nathan the prophet sharing an injustice (2 Samuel 12) and Jesus’ anger over how some of the Jews had defiled worship at God’s temple in Jerusalem (John 2:13-18).
    • Holy anger does not involve self-defence, but a de-fence of others or of a principle (against injustice, harassment, etc). Anger at an injustice inflicted against oneself is also appropriate. Hence, anger is not always sin.
    • The second type of anger comes with agitation or rage. This anger becomes sin when:
    • It is motivated by pride (James 1:20).
    • It is unproductive and distorts God’s purposes (1
      Corinthians 10:31).
It is allowed to linger or hijacked by the devil especially when the angry one refuses to be pacified, holds a grudge, or keeps it all inside (Ephesians
      4:26-27).
    • It produces poisonous speech which is a common characteristic of a fallen man (Bomans 3:13-14).
It is allowed to boil over without restraint, resulting in a scenario in which hurt is multiplied (Proverbs 29:11), leaving devastation in its wake.
One obvious sign that anger has turned to sin is when, instead of attacking the problem at hand, we attack the person (Ephesians 4:15-19).
The consequences of out-of-control anger are devastating and irreparable.

LESSON 48: Is It Only Believers In Christ Living Holy That Will Make It To Heaven? What About People Of Other Religions (Non-Christians) That Are Doing Good?

After the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, God, in His mercy and love for mankind started making plans to redeem and reconcile them to Himself. The provision to transfer the sin of man to innocent animals failed overtime because man kept returning to his vomit (Hebrews 9:12-14; 2 Peter 2:22). God cannot compromise on His standard. There has to be punishment for sins committed and the price is death (2 Thessalonians 1:6; Romans 6:23). Our good does not outweigh our bad (Isaiah 64:6).

Only God can redeem man from the nature of sin that we inherited through Adam, so God came in the flesh (as God the son-Jesus Christ) to live on earth like man (in human form). Jesus was tested and tried by all the forces of life yet without sin

(John 14:30; Hebrews 4:15). Since, it is required that the blood of the innocent must be shed for there to be remission of sin, Jesus (without sin) laid down His life, took the sin of the whole worl upon Himself, and died to pay the ultimate price required by the law to save mankind from eternal damnation and destruction (2 Corinthians 5:21).

All that is required from sinful humans now is to believe in the love of God and embrace the grace that brings salvation through Jesus (Titus 2:11).

The only one that gives salvation is Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12).

Jesus made it clear that He came from heaven. and would go back to heaven to create room for as many as would believe Him (John 14:1-3). Не emphasised that nobody can get to heaven except by Him (John 14:6) and anyone that does not believe in Him is already condemned (John 3:18, 36).

There is no amount of good deed that can replace the provision made by God to save humanity.

Remember Cornelius (Acts 10). Jesus is the ONLY way to heaven and ONLY those who accept Him as LORD and SAVIOUR, living by faith in Him to the end will make it to heaven.

GLORY BE TO GOD. GOD BLESS YOU IN JESUS’ NAME. AMEN.
